Romita Mazumdar is the 31-year-old founder and chief executive of Foxtale, a Mumbai-based direct-to-consumer skincare company launched in 2021. She ranked fifth in the 2026 Avendus Wealth–Hurun India U35 List’s 10 youngest entrepreneurs, the only woman in that top-10 group.
Who is Romita Mazumdar?
Mazumdar leads Foxtale, a skincare business built around cleansers, serums and moisturisers marketed to Indian consumers. The company sells through its own website, other online shopping platforms and quick-commerce services. Her 2026 Hurun recognition places her among India’s youngest prominent entrepreneurs at a time when direct-to-consumer brands are expanding beyond their original online channels.

She first appeared on the Hurun list in 2025. In the 2026 edition, all 10 entrepreneurs in the youngest-founder top group were 31, and Mazumdar was the sole woman. Across the full edition, 23 women were recognised; women made up 12.8% of all entrepreneurs included, according to coverage of the list.

Education and career before Foxtale
University training
Mazumdar studied business economics and financial mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles, from 2013 to 2017. That combination gave her formal grounding in markets, quantitative analysis and business decision-making.

Technology and investment analysis
After UCLA, she worked in technology analysis at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Palo Alto from 2017 to 2019. She then moved to investment analysis at A91 Partners, where she worked from 2019 to 2021.
Her move from finance into consumer entrepreneurship was not an abrupt change of subject. In a HerStory interview, Mazumdar said she began examining the Indian skincare market after working with a makeup brand and noticing a gap between product efficacy and affordability. That research led to Foxtale’s launch in 2021.
What is Foxtale?
Foxtale is a Mumbai-based skincare company using a direct-to-consumer model. Its reported everyday range includes:
Rank #2
- Ideal for Gifting
- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
- Cleansers
- Serums
- Moisturisers
The brand’s positioning is aimed at Indian consumers seeking effective routine products at accessible prices. Foxtale combines direct online sales with marketplace distribution and quick-commerce availability, giving customers more than one route to purchase products such as a Foxtale cleanser, serum or moisturiser.
How Mazumdar says Foxtale develops products
Entrepreneur India reported Mazumdar’s claim that Foxtale involves community members in product testing and does not launch a product until it reaches “97 per cent efficacy.” This is a company-reported development target, not independent clinical validation or a published regulatory standard. The distinction matters when interpreting performance claims for any skincare product.
Z47 reported that Mazumdar conducted almost 1,000 interviews over six months while identifying the consumer problem Foxtale would address. In the same account, she described an ambition to build a business worth ₹1,000 crore.

Foxtale’s reported funding and financial scale
Publicly reported figures come from different publications and list editions, so they should not be treated as one single-period metric.

Why the Hurun recognition matters
A first-generation founder in a finance-led group
Mazumdar’s path is that of a first-generation entrepreneur who moved from institutional finance into a consumer brand. That distinguishes her from family-business successors also represented in the broader Hurun edition. Her story links analytical work in technology and investing with a product-led, consumer-facing company.
Visibility for women founders
Being the only woman among the 10 youngest entrepreneurs in the 2026 list gives Mazumdar’s ranking a specific significance beyond her fifth-place position. The wider list still included 23 women, but women represented 12.8% of all recognised entrepreneurs, showing that female representation remained a minority in the edition.
What her story says about Foxtale’s growth model
Foxtale’s reported strategy combines three elements: a focused skincare assortment, consumer feedback before launch and distribution across owned, marketplace and quick-commerce channels. Mazumdar’s finance background may help explain the emphasis on identifying a measurable gap, testing products with a community and setting a large-scale revenue ambition.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
The available figures indicate substantial reported revenue and outside investment, but they do not by themselves establish profitability, market share, repeat-purchase rates or independent product efficacy. Those measures would require separate company filings or verified operating data.
Romita Mazumdar’s own view of entrepreneurship
Responding to stereotypes about Bengalis and business, Mazumdar said: “We are Bengalis. We love our bhaat and daal, and still build a very good business.” The remark appeared in coverage of her response to those stereotypes and reflects her use of cultural identity alongside a confident view of business-building.
