| Retailer | Why choose it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Store | Direct purchase from Nintendo and clear official product information. | Availability, shipping and Nintendo’s return terms. Nintendo does not promise to match retailer prices. |
| Amazon | Convenient delivery and broad product-page availability. | Confirm the “sold by” and “ships from” fields. Avoid unexplained markups, imported units and unclear warranty coverage. |
| Best Buy | Local inventory checks, store pickup and trade-in or protection-plan options. | Pickup is location-specific. Best Buy’s 2025 launch-night arrangements applied to participating stores, not every location or future release. |
| GameStop | In-store shopping, games and accessories, plus potential trade-in credit. | Trade-in value depends on the product, condition, membership status and promotion. |
| Target | Store pickup, local inventory checks and applicable Target Circle Card savings. | Enter your location and compare the final price, including any delivery charges. |
| Walmart | Broad store coverage with shipping, delivery and pickup options. | Walmart also hosts marketplace sellers. Confirm that Walmart itself, rather than an independent vendor, is selling the console. |
| Costco or Sam’s Club | Potential member-only promotions, gift cards or useful bundle extras. | Include the membership cost and value of extras when comparing the effective price. |
Other retailers on Nintendo’s list may have carried the console, but readers should verify the live listing rather than assume national availability.
What did Nintendo Switch 2 cost at launch?
The US launch prices on June 5, 2025 were:
- Switch 2 console: $449.99 before sales tax.
- Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle: $499.99 before sales tax.
Nintendo announced that the US MSRP was scheduled to rise from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1, 2026. Because the 2025 price is historical, check the retailer’s current price before buying. Your checkout total may also include sales tax, shipping, membership fees or marketplace markups. See Nintendo’s price-change announcement.
Which Switch 2 version should you buy?
Console only
The standard console was the lowest-upfront-cost option at launch. It made sense if you already owned Mario Kart World, wanted a different game, or planned to buy a physical game separately. It also avoided paying for a title you would not play.
Mario Kart World bundle
The $499.99 launch bundle included the console and a download code for Mario Kart World, not a physical game cartridge. It was the logical choice for buyers who would otherwise purchase the game. The effective saving depends on the game’s standalone price and the promotion available when you buy; do not assume the same saving after a sale or bundle offer ends.

- 6.2” LCD screen
- Three play modes: TV, tabletop, and handheld
- Local co-op, online, and local wireless multiplayer
- Detachable Joy-Con controllers
- Nintendo Switch is the home of Mario & friends
“Choose Your Game” bundles
Later retailer listings offered a “Nintendo Switch 2: Choose Your Game Bundle” with a download code for one eligible title. Eligible games, pricing and offer periods can change. Check the live Best Buy or Target listing for the exact contents before checkout.
Retailer bundles
A console may be packaged with a gift card, Nintendo Switch Online, accessories or other extras. Compare the value of each included item rather than relying on the headline price. A membership promotion is only a saving if you would use the membership anyway.
How to avoid scalpers and marketplace problems
- Start with Nintendo’s retailer list. Use it as a legitimacy starting point, not as proof of inventory.
- Inspect the seller. On Amazon and Walmart especially, confirm who sold and ships the product.
- Compare the complete price. Include tax, shipping, membership costs, gift-card restrictions and bundle contents.
- Confirm the condition. Make sure the listing says new if that is what you want, rather than used, refurbished or open-box.
- Confirm the US model. Imported systems may have different language, eShop, power-adapter and warranty considerations.
- Read the return policy and warranty terms. A marketplace purchase can create more return friction and may not carry the same manufacturer support as a purchase from an appropriate US seller.
- Do not rely on a search-result price. Open the product page, verify the seller and check the final checkout total.
A price above MSRP is not automatically evidence of a counterfeit product, but it is a warning to investigate. Paying a premium to a third-party seller can mean weaker returns, unclear warranty coverage, an imported edition or missing accessories.
Buying online versus picking up in a store
Online delivery is convenient and may expose more inventory, but delivery dates can change. Store pickup can be faster when local inventory is available, but the item normally must be reserved for a specific location. Inventory can disappear between adding the console to your cart and completing payment.

GameStop may be a good fit if you have an older Switch or another console to trade. Check the current trade-in quote; value depends on model, condition, membership status and active promotions. Keeping the older Switch may be more valuable if you use it for local multiplayer, backward-compatible games or as a second household system.
Costco, Sam’s Club and Walmart+ can be useful for existing members, but calculate the real saving after membership fees. A one-time console purchase may not justify joining a warehouse club or subscription service solely for a promotion.

Do you need a game immediately?
The console-only SKU does not necessarily include a game. A download-code bundle requires a Nintendo Account, internet access, adequate storage and redemption in the correct region. Nintendo also says that some newer Nintendo-published Switch 2 exclusives can have different MSRPs for digital and physical versions beginning in May 2026. Check Nintendo’s game-pricing guidance before comparing formats.
Physical games may suit buyers who want to resell, lend or collect games. Digital games are more convenient but depend on account access and storage. Nintendo.com digital purchases require a Nintendo Account and prior eShop access on a Switch or Switch 2, according to Nintendo’s support information.

- Best for pickup: Best Buy, Target, Walmart or GameStop, depending on your ZIP code and confirmed local stock.
- Best for minimizing marketplace risk: Nintendo Store or a product sold directly by a major retailer.
- Best for warehouse-club members: Costco or Sam’s Club when the effective price and included extras beat a standard retailer offer.
