Workday positioned its flagship customer and partner conference around the theme “Illuminate your work day,” with artificial intelligence, enterprise data, automation, and human–AI collaboration at the center. The event was aimed at HR, finance, IT, operations, executives, administrators, and Workday partners, with both in-person and digital participation.
Because the event has concluded, the useful question is no longer simply what attendees could expect. It is what Workday promised, which announcements became visible during the event, and whether the conference was likely to justify the cost and time for a particular organization.

What was Workday Rising USA 2025?
Workday Rising is Workday’s annual flagship conference for customers, partners, and professionals responsible for human resources, finance, payroll, IT, operations, and enterprise transformation. Workday said it expected more than 30,000 people to participate in person and digitally in 2025. That figure was an expectation published by Workday, not an independently audited final attendance count.

#1 Best Overall
The central theme: “Illuminate your work day”
The theme was more than a reference to a new chatbot. Workday presented AI as a layer across its core business applications, data, and workflows. The company’s framing focused on helping organizations manage people, money, and AI agents, while allowing employees and managers to work alongside automated systems.
That made the practical test for the event more demanding than whether Workday showed impressive demonstrations. Customers needed to determine:
- Which AI capabilities were generally available, in preview, or still part of a roadmap.
- What data, integrations, security roles, and configuration they required.
- How human review and approval would work in sensitive HR and finance processes.
- Whether adoption required additional licensing, Flex Credits, implementation services, or contract changes.
- How organizations could measure productivity, accuracy, control, and return on investment.
Workday’s own language about an AI-powered future should therefore be treated as company positioning. A product demonstration does not independently establish production performance or business results. (Workday’s preview)
Who was Workday Rising for?
HR and people teams
HR leaders, HRIS managers, payroll teams, recruiters, talent professionals, and workforce-planning specialists could focus on employee and manager workflows, recruiting, skills data, employee experience, workforce insights, and automation of repetitive work.
The important questions were whether AI recommendations could be reviewed and governed, how sensitive employee information would be protected, and whether new features would work with the organization’s existing configuration.
Finance teams
Finance leaders, controllers, accountants, planners, analysts, procurement teams, and reporting specialists had reason to watch announcements involving accounting, planning, reporting, controls, and financial operations.
Rank #2
Workday’s emphasis on managing money made the conference relevant to finance, but attendees still needed to examine auditability, approval controls, exception handling, data quality, and the implementation effort behind automation. AI that accelerates a process is not automatically suitable for a controlled financial workflow.
Recommended Free Tools
IT leaders and Workday administrators
CIOs, enterprise architects, developers, security teams, integration specialists, and Workday administrators were likely to get the most value from sessions about platform strategy, extensibility, data governance, identity, permissions, integrations, testing, deployment, and monitoring.
For this audience, the central issue was how Workday’s AI agents and platform tools would interact with existing enterprise systems. New functionality can create work as well as remove it if teams must redesign integrations, update security roles, test unusual cases, or establish new monitoring processes.
Executives and partners
CFOs, CHROs, CIOs, operations leaders, implementation partners, consultants, and technology providers could use the event to evaluate Workday’s broader direction and ecosystem.
Executives needed a business case rather than a list of announcements: which operating-model changes were realistic, which capabilities were mature enough to fund, and what governance would be required. Partners and consultants were more likely to focus on implementations, extensions, integrations, advisory work, and ecosystem opportunities.

What the program included
Workday’s published program description included a mixture of strategic and practical content:
Rank #3
- Opening and innovation keynotes.
- Product strategy and vision sessions.
- Role- and industry-oriented breakout sessions.
- Hands-on labs.
- Customer-led stories and implementation lessons.
- Peer networking, including Braindates and scheduled one-to-one meetings.
- Expo and sponsor content.
- Digital content for remote participants.
- Workday Pro exams or certification-related activities, subject to their own eligibility and registration requirements.
Registered attendees could use Workday’s Session Scheduler to view sessions by date and time and reserve places where required. (Workday Rising FAQ)
The most productive schedule would normally combine one high-level session with several technical, role-specific, or customer-led sessions. Keynotes explain strategy, but they rarely answer detailed questions about licensing, prerequisites, configuration, integration, or support.
Announcements that mattered
Workday Build
Workday announced Workday Build, described as an open platform for customers and partners. Its significance was the potential to create extensions and applications around Workday rather than treating the core product as a closed system.

Workday Data Cloud
Workday Data Cloud was another major product announcement identified in Workday’s post-event coverage. The concept was relevant to organizations seeking more connected analytics and insight across people, financial, and operational data.
Its practical value would depend on data quality, governance, reporting requirements, integration architecture, and the distinction between data that can be analyzed and data that can safely drive an automated decision.
Rank #4
Flex Credits
Workday also announced Flex Credits, intended to help customers adopt capabilities without signing new contracts. This could make experimentation or expansion easier, but it should not be interpreted as proof that new functionality had no cost.

Sana agreement
Workday reported a definitive agreement to acquire Sana, an enterprise AI knowledge-tools company. The announcement was strategically relevant to Workday’s AI and enterprise-knowledge direction, but an agreement to acquire a company should not automatically be described as a completed acquisition or as an immediately available product integration. (Workday’s post-event recap)
Speakers and headline attractions
Brené Brown was announced as the opening keynote speaker. Workday later announced Duran Duran as part of the entertainment lineup and listed Microsoft among featured customer or partner voices. Workday CEO Carl Eschenbach and President of Product and Technology Gerrit Kazmaier also featured in the company’s event messaging.
These attractions helped communicate the scale of the conference, but business attendees should judge the event primarily by the relevance of its product sessions, customer examples, technical access, and peer conversations.

| Format | Best suited to | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|
| In person | Networking, Braindates, hands-on labs, expo conversations, customer meetings, and concentrated team learning | Registration, travel, lodging, and time away from work add substantial cost |
| Digital | Keynotes, selected sessions, lower-cost participation, and flexible viewing | It is unlikely to replicate spontaneous networking, hands-on activities, or the expo-floor experience |
Digital participation could be a sensible option for an individual with limited travel approval or for a team that wanted to monitor product direction before committing to a larger project. It should not be assumed to have provided the same value as attending in person.

What did attendance cost?
Workday’s 2025 announcement stated that early-bird pricing ended on June 25, 2025. The available evidence does not establish a complete historical 2025 price table, so it would be misleading to quote a precise registration price without archived registration documentation.
Current Workday Rising pages describe the 2026 event in Las Vegas and should not be used as evidence of 2025 pricing, venue details, meal policies, or schedules. (Current Workday Rising page)
The real attendance budget also included airfare or ground transportation, lodging, meals not covered by the registration package, local travel, and the value of several days of staff time. For a finance or HR department, the relevant comparison was not simply “ticket versus no ticket,” but whether the event could prevent a costly implementation mistake, accelerate a planned project, or provide useful peer and customer access.
How first-time attendees could have prepared
- Define two or three business problems. Examples include reducing manual payroll work, improving workforce planning, strengthening financial reporting, or governing AI-assisted decisions.
- Separate strategy from execution. Pair executive keynotes with technical breakouts, hands-on labs, and customer sessions.
- Build a role-specific schedule. Use the Session Scheduler once the catalog opens, and reserve high-demand sessions where required.
- Prepare specific questions. Ask about general availability, prerequisites, security, data residency, integrations, licensing, implementation effort, and support.
- Arrange peer conversations early. Schedule customers, partners, and Braindates in advance rather than relying entirely on chance meetings.
- Bring configuration context. Document current Workday modules, integrations, security concerns, reporting problems, and planned projects.
- Separate facts from sales language. Record product availability, roadmap statements, customer claims, and your own assumptions in different notes.
- Plan the follow-up. Assign owners to validate announcements, request demonstrations, estimate implementation work, and report back to stakeholders.
Was Workday Rising USA 2025 worth attending?
The answer depended on the organization’s Workday footprint and its ability to act on what it learned.
- Likely worthwhile in person: Workday customers planning major HR or finance changes, organizations evaluating AI governance, administrators with complex implementation problems, and teams that needed customer references or partner relationships.
- Potentially worthwhile digitally: Individuals mainly interested in keynotes and product direction, teams with limited travel budgets, and organizations in an early research stage.
- Less compelling: People without a current Workday-related project, organizations unable to fund follow-up work, or attendees expecting a keynote alone to answer configuration and procurement questions.
The strongest business case involved a defined objective: compare implementation approaches, investigate a specific product capability, build a peer network, or prepare a decision about Workday’s AI and data strategy. Attending without questions, owners, or a post-event review made it much harder to convert conference content into financial or operational value.
What the event ultimately signaled
Workday’s post-event coverage made the AI theme more concrete by highlighting Workday Build, Data Cloud, Flex Credits, and the Sana agreement. These announcements showed that the company was linking AI not only to user-facing assistance, but also to its platform, data layer, commercial model, and enterprise knowledge strategy.
They did not, by themselves, prove that every capability was generally available, production-ready, or suitable for every customer. Organizations evaluating the announcements still needed to verify release status, pricing and entitlements, technical prerequisites, security controls, data requirements, and measurable outcomes.
For readers assessing Workday Rising after the fact, the most useful takeaway is straightforward: the event was relevant to organizations deciding how far to take Workday’s AI and platform strategy, but its value depended on disciplined evaluation after the conference—not on the event’s headline promises alone.
