Verizon phone insurance is not one product
Verizon uses several names for device-protection options. The most important distinction is whether you need insurance-style protection against events that happen to the phone—such as loss, theft, or accidental damage—or warranty protection against a covered malfunction.

WPP is Verizon’s basic protection product. It generally covers:

WPP generally does not provide the full post-warranty malfunction coverage included with Verizon Extended Warranty, subject to Florida-specific treatment.
Verizon Extended Warranty
Extended Warranty is aimed at eligible post-warranty malfunctions—not phones that were lost, stolen, or accidentally damaged. Verizon says select smartphones may also qualify for battery replacement, subject to eligibility and parts availability.
Total Equipment Coverage
Total Equipment Coverage combines WPP with Verizon Extended Warranty. It is intended for customers who want both loss, theft, and accidental-damage protection plus post-warranty malfunction coverage, without the additional Mobile Secure features in Mobile Protect.

Mobile Protect combines:
- Wireless Phone Protection
- Verizon Extended Warranty
- Mobile Secure
Mobile Secure adds services such as premium technical support, security and privacy tools, device optimization, and performance checks. Those features do not themselves insure the phone against loss, theft, damage, or malfunction; those protections come through the other components of the bundle.
Verizon Mobile Protect Multi-Device
This is an account-level option for multiple eligible lines. Verizon’s FAQ lists tiers of $38 per month for two registered eligible lines, $57 for three, and $68 for accounts with four to 20 lines, subject to registration and claim rules.
Do not assume that “lines,” “registered lines,” and “claims” mean the same thing. Verizon states that registrations reset after 12 months without a claim. Read the current brochure and enrollment screen carefully before relying on the multi-device limits.

Verify the live offer in My Verizon → Products & plan perks. Verizon’s current web pages should take precedence over older brochures when plan names or prices differ.
What is the deductible?
The deductible depends on the phone model, protection plan, state, and type of claim. A loss or theft claim may have a different deductible from a damage claim, and an eligible screen or back-glass repair may have a $0 deductible.
Verizon’s current consumer brochure lists loss-and-theft deductibles of $19, $99, $109, $189, $229, or $279. Damage replacement is generally listed at $99, except where the device’s loss-and-theft deductible is $19. That is a range—not a universal schedule for every phone.
Use Verizon’s or Asurion’s device-specific lookup to find the amount for your model. The consumer protection brochure is useful for understanding the structure, but the live device lookup and applicable terms should control.
Asurion collects the deductible when you file the claim. The deductible is in addition to premiums already paid and any applicable taxes or uncovered costs.
Are Verizon’s cracked-screen repairs really free?
Sometimes. Verizon advertises $0 cracked-screen or back-glass repairs for select eligible smartphones and locations. Eligibility can depend on:
- Your exact phone model
- Your location
- Claim approval
- Parts and inventory
- Technician availability
- Whether an authorized repair center or mobile repair service is available
- The phone meeting required health and condition standards
A phone with both screen and back-glass damage may not qualify unless it is eligible for both repair programs. Otherwise, the claim may be handled as a damage replacement with a deductible.
Therefore, “$0 screen repair” does not mean all damage is free, nor does it mean unlimited replacement claims.
What happens when you file a Verizon insurance claim?
- Confirm coverage. In My Verizon, inspect the device’s protection status. If the information is unclear, use Verizon’s insurance and device-protection support hub.
- Use an authorized account. The filer generally must be the Account Owner or Account Manager, and Verizon or Asurion must validate the account credentials.
- Start the claim. Use Manage Device in My Verizon or file through Asurion at phoneclaim.com/verizon.
- Describe what happened accurately. Select loss, theft, accidental damage, liquid damage, or another applicable event. Do not describe a post-warranty malfunction as accidental damage, or vice versa.
- Pay the deductible. Asurion collects the applicable amount during the claim process.
- Choose the available fulfillment method. Depending on the claim and location, options may include an Asurion-authorized store, mail-in repair, mobile repair, or replacement.
- Secure a lost or stolen device. Suspend service where appropriate, use location and remote-lock tools if available, and consider a police report if the circumstances or claim process calls for one.
- Track the claim. Use Asurion’s claim-status tools or the relevant Verizon account interface, and keep the claim number.
Verizon says Asurion-certified technicians perform covered repairs. Verizon is generally the enrollment and wireless-account channel; Asurion handles much of the claim, deductible, repair, and replacement process.
Will Verizon send a brand-new, identical phone?
Not necessarily. An approved claim may be fulfilled with a new or refurbished device of the same model or a device of like kind and quality. Repairs may use new or refurbished parts and original or non-original manufacturer parts.

- ADHESION OPTIMIZED FOR SLIGHTLY CURVED EDGES – The slightly curved shape of the screen edges requires specialized adhesion. The included smoothing card helps push out air bubbles and apply even pressure for a cleaner, more uniform installation.
- HIGH TRANSPARENCY & OLEOPHOBIC COATING: High transparency preserves the screen's sharpness, brightness, and colors. The oleophobic coating helps reduce fingerprints and smudges while making daily cleaning easier. 9H TEMPERED GLASS – 0.33 MM THICKNESS: Made from 0.33 mm tempered glass with 9H hardness, it helps protect the screen against scratches, scuffs, and minor everyday impacts, while maintaining excellent transparency.
- PRESERVED TOUCH SENSITIVITY & EASY INSTALLATION: The silicone adhesive layer ensures uniform, reliable adhesion to the screen while maintaining responsiveness and touch sensitivity. Quick and easy installation, designed to minimize bubble formation.
Color, storage configuration, features, accessories, and compatibility with existing accessories are not guaranteed. Verizon advertises next-day replacement for some approved lost, stolen, or damaged-device claims, but approval timing, location, inventory, and fulfillment conditions apply. It is not a universal guaranteed delivery promise.
Because repairs may use non-original manufacturer parts, Verizon warns that a repair could affect the manufacturer warranty. Treat that as a possibility tied to the particular repair—not a statement that every repair voids every manufacturer warranty.
Enrollment rules and eligibility
Enrollment timing
Verizon’s WPP page says eligible customers can enroll within the first 30 days after device activation. Eligibility is checked through My Verizon and may vary by product.
Some products may have separate open-enrollment periods. For example, Verizon’s Total Equipment Coverage FAQ identified an open-enrollment window from March 5, 2026, through May 3, 2026. That window has passed; do not assume another enrollment period is open without checking the current offer.
Device condition
A device-health check may require that the phone:
- Powers on and off
- Has no screen damage or defects
- Has a working microphone
- Has a working charging port
- Has a working battery
- Is compatible with Verizon’s network
- Has not previously been reported lost or stolen
Certain Verizon-purchased and BYOD devices may not qualify. Protection is not a mechanism for insuring a phone after damage or loss has already occurred; the enrollment health check and eligibility rules are designed to address that risk.
Prepaid and business accounts
Verizon’s FAQ says prepaid accounts are not eligible for Verizon Mobile Protect. Do not automatically apply that rule to every Verizon protection product. Business, prepaid, and consumer postpaid offerings can have different terms, so check the specific product.
Cancellation
Verizon says protection renews monthly until canceled, is billed to the wireless account, and may be canceled at any time with a prorated refund of the monthly charge. After canceling, verify the confirmation and effective date in My Verizon.

Important state and travel differences
Florida
Florida treatment differs materially. Verizon says post-warranty malfunction coverage is provided through the insurance program for Florida customers, and damage-replacement deductibles and claim limits apply. Some Verizon products are unavailable in Florida. Review the Florida-specific terms rather than relying on the nationwide comparison.
New York
New York has separate pricing tiers for WPP, Total Equipment Coverage, and other device-protection products. The nationwide prices listed above should not be treated as New York quotes.
International travel
Verizon advertises global coverage or expedited international fulfillment options, but repair, replacement, shipping, and claim service vary by location and availability. Do not assume every country receives identical service or next-day fulfillment.

Is Verizon phone insurance worth it?
There is no universal yes-or-no answer. Compare the total cost of protection with the financial risk you are trying to transfer.
Total insured cost for a likely claim = premiums paid before the incident + deductible + applicable taxes or uncovered costs.
For example, a $7.95 monthly WPP premium annualizes to about $95.40 per year before taxes. A $16 Mobile Protect price annualizes to about $192 per year, and $19 annualizes to about $228 per year. Add the applicable deductible to compare the result with replacing or repairing the phone yourself.
Insurance is more defensible when:
- The phone would cost several hundred dollars to replace.
- You have a meaningful risk of loss, theft, liquid damage, or repeated accidents.
- You cannot comfortably absorb an unexpected replacement bill.
- Your phone and location actually qualify for useful $0 screen or back-glass repairs.
- A multi-device plan covers several eligible lines at a reasonable combined cost.
Self-insuring may be better when:
- The device is older, inexpensive, or already near replacement age.
- You rarely lose or damage phones.
- You have enough savings to replace the device immediately.
- You mainly want protection against malfunction, not loss or damage.
- You would not use Mobile Secure, premium support, or device-optimization services.
- You dislike the possibility of receiving a refurbished or non-identical replacement.
A low monthly premium is not the same as a low claim cost. Also consider whether an ordinary repair without insurance would cost less than the deductible, and whether the replacement would meet your needs.
Which Verizon option fits?
- Choose WPP if your main concern is loss, theft, or accidental damage and you want Verizon’s lowest-cost insurance-style option.
- Consider Total Equipment Coverage if you also want post-warranty malfunction and eligible battery coverage but do not need Mobile Secure. Verizon says this product is unavailable in Florida.
- Consider Mobile Protect if you specifically value extended-warranty coverage, premium technical support, security and privacy tools, and device services. Its higher price pays for a bundle of services, not simply better loss or theft insurance.
- Consider Mobile Protect Multi-Device when several eligible lines need coverage and the registration and claim rules fit your household’s risk.
- Consider manufacturer protection if first-party repair and support matter more than having protection billed through Verizon.
Verizon insurance versus alternatives
AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss
For eligible iPhones, AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss offers accidental-damage coverage and loss/theft protection under Apple’s terms. Apple’s U.S. materials list up to two theft-or-loss incidents every 12 months, a $149 theft/loss deductible, and $29 screen or back-glass and $99 other accidental-damage service fees for applicable iPhone coverage. Apple requires Find My to be enabled when the iPhone is lost or stolen.

Google Preferred Care and Pixel Care+
Google describes Preferred Care as available for eligible devices purchased from the Google Store, while Pixel Care+ has device-specific eligibility, fees, deductibles, plan lengths, and enrollment conditions. Loss-and-theft terms also vary. Check the exact model and purchase channel in Google’s Preferred Care information and Pixel Care+ information before comparing prices.

Samsung Care+ is a relevant alternative for Galaxy owners, but pricing, deductibles, loss/theft availability, and claim limits vary. Verify current terms directly with Samsung rather than assuming they match Verizon’s coverage.
Credit-card cell-phone protection
Some cards provide cell-phone protection when you pay the wireless bill with the card. Coverage limits, deductibles, exclusions, claim limits, and eligible damage types vary by issuer and card. Read the current benefits guide; this is not universally available and may exclude loss, theft, cosmetic damage, or phones that do not meet payment conditions.

Claim problems and practical fixes
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| No claim option appears | Confirm that the line is enrolled, the device is eligible, the account is not prepaid where excluded, and the enrollment window has not closed. |
| Deductible is higher than expected | Check the exact device model and whether the event is a damage replacement, loss/theft claim, or eligible screen repair. |
| Repair is denied | Ask whether the phone meets health, location, parts, inventory, and technician requirements. |
| Replacement is a different color or model | Review the like-kind-and-quality terms; color, features, and accessories are not guaranteed. |
| The phone is lost after a replacement claim | Do not submit conflicting descriptions of the same event. Contact Asurion or Verizon and preserve the claim number. |
| The original phone is recovered | Contact the claims administrator before reactivating, selling, or transferring either device. |
Before enrolling: a five-minute checklist
- Open My Verizon and identify the exact protection product offered for the line.
- Record the monthly premium, state-specific terms, and taxes or surcharges.
- Look up the loss/theft and damage deductibles for the exact phone model.
- Confirm whether $0 screen or back-glass repair applies in your location.
- Check whether the phone is still within the enrollment window and passes the condition requirements.
- Compare the premium-plus-deductible cost with your savings and the phone’s replacement price.
- If comparing alternatives, check their enrollment deadline, repair channel, claim limit, deductible, and loss/theft requirements—not just the monthly price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Verizon phone insurance cover a lost phone?
Wireless Phone Protection generally covers loss, subject to eligibility, claim limits, and the applicable loss/theft deductible. Extended Warranty alone does not.
Does Verizon phone insurance cover water damage?
WPP generally covers accidental liquid damage. The claim may result in a repair or replacement and may require a damage deductible.
How much is the Verizon insurance deductible?
It depends on the device, state, plan, and event. Verizon’s current brochure lists loss/theft deductibles from $19 to $279, while damage replacement is generally $99. Check the device-specific lookup.
Can I add Verizon insurance after buying or damaging my phone?
Eligible customers can generally enroll within 30 days after activation. The phone may need to pass a health check, and enrollment availability varies. Protection is not intended to cover damage or loss that occurred before enrollment.
Can I cancel Verizon phone insurance anytime?
Verizon says protection can be canceled at any time and may receive a prorated refund. Confirm the cancellation date and confirmation in My Verizon.
Is cracked-screen repair free?
Only for select eligible devices and locations, subject to approval, parts, inventory, technician availability, and condition requirements. Other damage may require a deductible-based replacement.
Will Verizon insurance provide a new identical phone?
Not necessarily. A claim may be fulfilled with a new or refurbished same-model or like-kind-and-quality device. Color, features, parts, and accessories are not guaranteed.

Verizon’s FAQ says prepaid accounts are not eligible for Verizon Mobile Protect. Other protection products may have different rules.
Does Verizon insurance cover international travel?
Verizon advertises global options, but repair, replacement, shipping, and claim service vary by location and availability. Verify the terms for your destination.

Is Verizon Mobile Protect worth it?
It is most defensible when you value Extended Warranty, Mobile Secure, premium support, and related services. If you only want loss, theft, or damage protection, compare its higher premium with WPP and the alternatives.
The Bottom Line
For most Verizon customers, start with the risk rather than the plan name. Choose WPP when loss, theft, and accidental damage are the concern; consider Total Equipment Coverage for added malfunction protection; and choose Mobile Protect only when its support, security, and optimization services justify the higher cost. Before enrolling or filing a claim, verify the live My Verizon offer, exact deductible, state rules, and device-specific repair eligibility.
