Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu said on October 12, 2026, that no economic settlement had been reached within their family branch. A March 2024 memorandum of understanding (MoU) disclosed by TVS Holdings deals with TVS brand use and specified business restrictions, but public reporting gives conflicting accounts of whether it also divided family assets. In a joint statement reported on October 12, 2026, Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu said: “No economic settlement has been reached within the Venu Srinivasan family.” Their reported position is that arrangements involving management, brand use or non-compete obligations should not be treated as an agreed division of family wealth or ownership.

The statement is the latest reported position in the material available as of that date. It does not, by itself, determine the legal effect of the 2024 MoU or settle the competing interpretations of it.
What the March 2024 MoU filing documents
TVS Holdings’ filing dated March 22, 2024, says the MoU was dated March 20 and that execution was completed on March 21. The named parties were Venu Srinivasan, Mallika Srinivasan, Lakshmi Venu and Sudarshan Venu. Among its disclosed terms, the MoU restricts Sudarshan Venu and persons controlled by him from using specified trademarks, including TVS, in certain businesses. The filing also records the parties’ belief that the MoU would not adversely affect TVS Holdings’ business or its ability to continue as then conducted. That is the company’s statement in the 2024 filing, not an independent assessment of the family ownership dispute.
Why the meaning of the MoU is disputed
An October 9, 2026, Economic Times report attributed to people close to Venu Srinivasan and Sudarshan Venu the view that the MoU amounted to a division of family assets. The same report described sources close to Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu as saying it addressed brand use and non-compete clauses, not asset ownership. These are distinct questions: who manages a business, who may use a trademark or is subject to a business restriction, and who owns family assets or has agreed to their economic division. Evidence of an arrangement in one category does not automatically establish an agreement in the others. The reported disagreement is over whether the MoU or other arrangements resolved that last question.

The October 12 statement says Mallika Srinivasan and Lakshmi Venu do not regard an economic settlement as having been reached within their family branch. The cited filing documents the MoU’s stated terms and the parties’ view of its effect on TVS Holdings’ business; it does not disclose a valuation-based division of family assets. The available reporting does not establish agreed ownership shares, valuations, inheritance entitlements or a final public resolution.
