Equal AI, an Indian startup founded by Keshav Reddy, is seeking a new growth round at a targeted valuation of $750 million to $1 billion. The upper figure is a fundraising goal, not a completed valuation or closed deal. Investor interest has been reported, with the final price dependent on whether the company reaches operating milestones, including 15 million monthly active users by March.
What Equal AI is seeking
Business Today reports that Equal AI is discussing fresh funding at a valuation range of $750 million to $1 billion. The company has not disclosed the amount of capital it wants to raise, and there is no confirmation that investors have agreed to the $1 billion figure.

The valuation is tied to growth expectations. Equal AI is targeting 15 million monthly active users by March, described as a fourfold increase from its reported base. That makes the $1 billion number an upper-end, milestone-dependent target rather than a current company value.
How much Equal AI has raised
Equal AI raised $30 million in Series B funding in June 2026 in a round led by Prosus Ventures and Tomales Bay Capital. TechCrunch reported that the financing brought the startup’s total funding to more than $42 million.
#1 Best Overall
The Series B was divided into three tranches, each with valuations linked to milestones. Equal AI did not disclose the valuation assigned to any individual tranche, so the company’s post-money valuation after that round cannot be calculated from the public information.
What Equal AI’s call assistant does
Equal AI began in 2022 as a data-sharing business serving financial services and know-your-customer verification. It later shifted toward a consumer AI call assistant. The Android app is designed to handle unknown callers rather than simply label them.
Screening and explaining calls
When an unknown call arrives, the assistant can ask the caller why they are calling and show that explanation to the user. This addresses a different question from conventional caller ID: not only “who is calling?” but also “why are they calling?”

Responding for the user
The product offers quick replies, including delivery instructions, and supports custom messages. Business Standard describes the broader Call AI Assistant as helping users block spam, understand caller intent, take actions on their behalf and complete limited end-to-end tasks.
Records and summaries
The app can store call recordings, transcripts and summaries. Those features make privacy, consent and local rules important considerations for anyone using the service; the public reports do not specify a single consent workflow for every call or jurisdiction.
Language coverage
Equal AI says it supports more than 10 languages. That is significant in India, where calls frequently involve multiple languages and code-mixed speech. The company has not published a language-by-language accuracy comparison.

User numbers and the March target
After launching the consumer product the previous year, Equal AI said it had more than 1 million monthly active users and over 300,000 daily active users, according to figures reported by TechCrunch. Management is now targeting 15 million monthly active users by March, a roughly fourfold increase on the monthly figure it previously disclosed.

Those are company-reported operating figures and a forward-looking goal, not an independently audited user count. Whether the target is reached will affect the valuation investors are willing to assign in the new round.
Is Equal AI the new Truecaller?
Equal AI competes with Truecaller, Google and Apple call-screening features, but the products do not perform the same job. Caller-ID services generally identify a number or help block known spam. Equal AI is positioning itself as a conversational layer that can question a caller, explain intent and send a response.
Rank #4
| Comparison | Equal AI | Traditional caller ID or screening | India’s proposed CNAP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary answer | Why the caller is contacting you, with an option to respond | Who is calling and whether a number may be spam | The registered name associated with a telephone number |
| Interaction | Conversational screening and limited actions | Usually passive identification or blocking | Network-delivered name presentation |
| Delivery | App-level service, currently reported on Android | App or operating-system feature | Telecom-network approach |
| Language emphasis | More than 10 languages claimed by Equal AI | Varies by product and region | Depends on carrier implementation and registered data |
| Recordings and transcripts | Supported by the app; consent details are not fully stated publicly | Varies by product | Not a conversational recording service |
CNAP is separate from Equal AI. It is intended to display a caller’s registered name through telecom infrastructure, whereas Equal AI’s stated differentiator is intent discovery and conversation. Google and Apple also offer call-screening capabilities, but availability and behavior vary by device, operating system and country.
Why India matters to the strategy
India is already a critical market for caller-identification services. Mint reported that India accounted for about two-thirds of Truecaller’s users and more than 75% of its 2023 revenue. Equal AI is attempting to build on the same high-volume calling environment while moving beyond identification into an assistant that can handle routine interactions.
Founder Keshav Reddy told TechCrunch: “We always wanted to be a customer-facing company, and with Equal AI, the first use case we launched was a call assistant because we realized users get a ton of calls for financial services or job openings.”

What is still unknown
- The amount of capital Equal AI is seeking in the new round has not been disclosed.
- The valuation assigned to each Series B tranche was not disclosed.
- It is not known whether investors will accept the $1 billion upper bound.
- The 15 million-user figure is a management target, not a completed result.
- Any iOS launch and the timing or price of a planned paid tier remain unconfirmed.
What the funding story means
Equal AI’s pitch is that an AI call assistant can become a broader consumer utility: it can filter interruptions, explain a caller’s purpose and complete simple tasks instead of merely displaying a name. The funding test is whether that workflow can scale from more than 1 million reported monthly users to 15 million while maintaining useful language handling and acceptable privacy practices.
Until a financing closes and terms are disclosed, the defensible description is that Equal AI is pursuing a $750 million-to-$1 billion valuation range. The $1 billion headline represents the company’s ambition, conditional on growth and investor agreement.
