Short answer: Bending Spoons describes itself as a long-term owner and operator of consumer digital products. It buys established apps, applies shared technology and small, specialized teams, and says it intends to keep operating the products rather than sell them quickly. That is different from IAC/People Incorporated’s history of building companies and spinning some out, and from Prosus’s diversified global investment-and-operations model.
The practical question for users and employees is not simply who owns an app. It is what the owner changes after closing: pricing, free tiers, features, staffing, privacy practices, support and reliability. The evidence below separates Bending Spoons’ published claims from what remains unknown without independent product or workforce data.

What Bending Spoons says its acquisition strategy is
Bending Spoons says it has acquired digital products since 2014 “not to sell on, but to own and operate for the long term.” Its stated approach is to make substantial changes after an acquisition, using proprietary shared technologies and small, talent-dense teams. The company says those transformations are intended to accelerate innovation, improve customer outcomes and strengthen the acquired business.

The company is not presenting each app as an independent asset that receives only capital and board oversight. Instead, it says the parent brings common engineering, data, product and operating capabilities into products that already have a customer base.

Bending Spoons reported in 2026 that its products had more than 1 billion registered users, more than 400 million monthly active users and more than 7 million monthly paying customers. Those figures are company-reported and aggregate the portfolio; they do not show how many users belong to any one app or how engagement changed independently after an acquisition.
Why the model matters to consumers
An acquisition can change an app even when the name and core purpose stay the same. A new owner may alter subscription prices, remove or add free features, rebuild synchronization, change support channels, consolidate infrastructure or redirect investment to a different customer segment. Bending Spoons’ stated model makes those changes more likely to be deliberate and centrally coordinated rather than gradual decisions made by a stand-alone startup.
Long-term ownership can also reduce pressure to prepare an app for a near-term resale. It does not guarantee that every change will benefit existing users: a long-term operator still has to improve margins, convert free users into paying customers and decide which legacy features to maintain.
Which consumer apps Bending Spoons has acquired
The company’s portfolio spans productivity, communities, photography and video, creator tools, file transfer and outdoor navigation. The dates below are the acquisition or ownership-announcement dates identified by the companies.
| Product | Primary use | Acquisition or ownership date | How it fits the portfolio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remini | Consumer photo and video enhancement | June 2021 | AI-assisted visual editing for consumers |
| Evernote | Productivity and knowledge management | January 2023 | Notes, organization and work information |
| Meetup | Events and interest communities | January 2024 | Local and online group discovery |
| StreamYard | Video recording and multi-destination livestreaming | April 2024 | Creator and business broadcasting |
| WeTransfer | Digital file storage and distribution | July 2024 | Large-file sharing and transfer workflows |
| Komoot | Outdoor route planning and navigation | March 2025 | Hiking, cycling and other outdoor activities |
| Vimeo | Online video hosting and creation | November 2025 | Professional and creator video services |
A 2026 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing describes Evernote, Meetup, Remini, Splice, StreamYard and WeTransfer as the businesses contributing the most revenue in the fourth quarter of 2024. Together, those businesses represented more than 60% of revenue in that quarter. The filing’s descriptions identify Evernote as a productivity and knowledge-management suite, Meetup as an events and interest-community service, Remini as a consumer image and video enhancement app, Splice as a video-editing app, StreamYard as a recording and multi-destination livestreaming service, and WeTransfer as digital file storage and distribution.
What happens after Bending Spoons buys an app
The company’s public examples show a pattern: first preserve the product’s recognizable purpose, then improve the underlying technology, add features and change the commercial model where management believes that is necessary.
Evernote: feature expansion and synchronization
Bending Spoons announced in November 2022 that it had agreed to acquire Evernote. The announcement described approximately $100 million in recurring revenue, millions of paying customers and almost 11 billion notes at the time. Bending Spoons later said it had delivered more than 200 Evernote features and improvements and increased sync speed by up to three times.

Those figures are the owner’s claims, not an independent benchmark. “Up to three times” describes the maximum improvement reported by the company, not a guaranteed result for every account, device or network. For an Evernote user, the relevant questions are whether the notes that matter sync reliably across the devices actually used, whether older features still work and whether a new plan is required for the same workflow.
Meetup: a new organizer pricing option
In January 2024, Meetup announced that Bending Spoons had entered an agreement to become its new owner. The announcement emphasized Meetup’s global brand, large user base and community mission. Bending Spoons later reported introducing a free plan for organizers for the first time since 2005.
A free organizer tier can lower the barrier to starting a group, but the value depends on its limits. Organizers should check event counts, attendee tools, payment features, messaging quotas and visibility rules before changing a paid plan. The existence of a free tier alone does not establish that the overall cost of running a group fell.
Remini: growth in monthly active users
Bending Spoons says Remini’s monthly active users grew more than fivefold after its ownership and product work. That is a scale metric, not a direct measure of editing quality, privacy satisfaction or retention. Monthly active users can rise because of marketing, new features, broader distribution or seasonal interest, and the published figure does not identify the baseline period or provide an independent audit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWeTransfer: recovery of expired transfers
The company says a new WeTransfer feature recovered more than 3 million expired transfers. This illustrates a practical improvement: a transfer service can create value by solving an operational problem for senders and recipients whose links would otherwise stop working. The figure is company-reported, and it does not state how many total transfers were eligible or how long recovery remained available.
Other products in the operating model
StreamYard, Splice, Komoot and Vimeo extend the portfolio into livestreaming, editing, navigation and professional video. Their presence means Bending Spoons is not limited to one app category or one monetization pattern. A subscription product, a creator platform and a navigation service can share infrastructure and analytical methods, but each still faces different reliability, content, privacy and customer-support requirements.
How Bending Spoons differs from IAC and People Incorporated
IAC’s company history describes a broader consumer-internet holding-company model. It says the group identifies shifts in consumer behavior, builds and scales category-leading businesses and applies disciplined capital allocation. Its history cites more than 200 companies owned or operated, including Expedia, Match Group, Ticketmaster, Vimeo and Angi. IAC has also created public entities through spinouts.

That history creates a different ownership horizon from Bending Spoons’ stated intention to own and operate products for the long term. IAC may build a business inside the group and later separate it as a public company or another stand-alone entity. A Bending Spoons acquisition, by contrast, is publicly framed as an operating commitment rather than a step toward a planned sale.
| Comparison point | Bending Spoons | IAC / People Incorporated |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership horizon | States that it acquires products to own and operate them for the long term | History includes building, scaling and spinning out businesses |
| Operating style | Shared proprietary technologies and small, talent-dense teams | Portfolio-company building, scaling and capital allocation across categories |
| Portfolio examples | Productivity, communities, photo/video, file transfer, creator tools and outdoor navigation | Consumer internet businesses including Expedia, Match Group, Ticketmaster, Vimeo and Angi |
| Likely user-facing implication | More centrally directed product and monetization changes inside an acquired app | Potential changes in ownership structure, including a future spinout |
These are structural distinctions, not a ranking. A spinout can give a successful app more independence and a dedicated public-market identity. Centralized operation can provide faster access to shared engineering resources. The outcome depends on execution, the product’s economics and how well the owner communicates changes.
How Bending Spoons differs from Prosus
Prosus describes itself as a global consumer-internet investment and operating group. Its annual-report materials emphasize businesses in large total-addressable-market categories enabled by software, with a portfolio that includes iFood, OLX and Stack Overflow. That makes Prosus a useful comparison for geographic reach, marketplace economics, minority investments and diversification, rather than a direct one-to-one match for a single-app operator.
| Comparison point | Bending Spoons | Prosus |
|---|---|---|
| Core orientation | Acquire established digital products and operate them directly for the long term | Invest in and operate a diversified global consumer-internet portfolio |
| Portfolio shape | Concentrated set of consumer and creator products | Marketplaces, food delivery, classifieds, knowledge platforms and other software-enabled businesses |
| Geographic emphasis | Global products managed through a concentrated operating model | Broad international exposure across regions and markets |
| Ownership situations | Focused on controlling and operating acquired products | Can include operating businesses, investments and portfolio-company structures |
| What users may notice | Product, pricing and infrastructure changes directed by a common operator | Market-specific policies, marketplace economics and varying degrees of portfolio-company autonomy |
Prosus’s scale and diversification can spread exposure across countries and business models. Bending Spoons’ concentration can make its product decisions more consistent across apps, but it also means a smaller number of major products account for a larger share of the group’s performance.
Comparing the business mechanics
Ownership horizon
Ownership horizon affects incentives. A long-term operator can justify rebuilding infrastructure whose payoff may take years. An owner preparing a spinout may prioritize a clean standalone financial story, while an investment group may balance growth, portfolio risk and capital recycling across businesses. None of these incentives automatically produces better products; they simply change which trade-offs are likely to receive attention.
Operating control and autonomy
Bending Spoons says it uses shared technologies and small teams across products. That can reduce duplicated engineering work and speed the rollout of internal tools. It can also reduce local autonomy if decisions about pricing, analytics, security or staffing move to a central organization.
IAC’s and Prosus’s broader structures allow more variation among portfolio companies. That can preserve a product’s existing culture and specialized expertise, but it may also produce uneven investment or slower adoption of group-wide systems. The public descriptions do not establish a single autonomy policy for every company in either group.

Monetization
Consumer apps commonly combine subscriptions, one-time purchases, advertising, marketplace fees, enterprise revenue or paid tiers. The SEC filing identifies products with different economics: Evernote’s productivity subscriptions, Meetup’s organizer and community services, Remini’s consumer app model, StreamYard’s creator and business video tools, and WeTransfer’s file-transfer service.
An acquisition owner may test prices, packaging or free limits to increase recurring revenue. Users should compare the exact benefits of their current plan with the replacement plan, including storage, export rights, collaboration, device limits, ads, watermarking and cancellation terms. A lower headline price can still represent a reduction if a previously included feature becomes paid.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Geography and scale
Bending Spoons reports a global user base, while Prosus explicitly emphasizes international markets and IAC’s history spans major consumer-internet categories. Geographic scale can improve localization and infrastructure investment, but it can also create different prices, features, legal terms and support experiences by country. A statement about “users” or “customers” should therefore be read as a portfolio-wide total unless a product and region are specified.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to judge whether an acquired app improved
Company announcements are useful for identifying what management chose to measure, but they are not a complete product review. Evaluate changes against the workflow and risks that matter to you.
- Reliability: Check sync accuracy, login stability, upload and download success, livestream continuity or route availability on the devices and networks you actually use.
- Feature value: Separate genuinely new capability from a redesign that merely moves existing controls.
- Pricing: Record the old and new price, billing interval, taxes, free-tier limits and renewal terms.
- Data control: Confirm export formats, retention rules, account deletion procedures and how shared links or community content are handled.
- Support: Test whether help is available through the channel and response time your use case requires.
- Continuity: Keep local or independent copies of important notes, media, files, event records and route data before migrating plans or deleting an account.
For example, Evernote’s reported feature count and sync-speed improvement matter most to someone who relies on cross-device notes. Meetup’s free organizer plan matters to a group leader whose main cost is subscription access. WeTransfer’s transfer-recovery feature matters to a sender who routinely shares files near an expiration deadline. The same change can be beneficial for one user and irrelevant or costly for another.
What users should do when an app is acquired
- Read the ownership announcement and updated terms. Identify the effective date, any change in the contracting entity, privacy-policy revisions and new support contacts.
- Inventory what you store. List notes, files, photos, videos, event data, contacts, payment records and integrations that would be difficult to recreate.
- Export critical data. Use the product’s current export tools while your existing plan and permissions remain active. Open a sample export to verify that it is usable.
- Capture your current plan. Save an invoice or screenshot showing price, renewal date, included storage, seats, device limits and cancellation terms.
- Test the replacement experience. Before committing to a new tier, verify sync, sharing, exports, integrations and mobile or desktop access in a noncritical workflow.
- Decide whether to stay. Compare the new cost and capabilities with your switching effort, not just the advertised feature list.
- Cancel deliberately if you leave. Download data first, confirm the cancellation date and check whether access changes immediately or at the end of the billing period.
These steps are prudent for any acquisition. They do not imply that Bending Spoons’ products are unsafe or that a transition will fail; they limit the damage if a pricing or feature decision does not fit your needs.

An operating owner can provide access to larger engineering, security, analytics and product resources. Bending Spoons’ description of small, talent-dense teams suggests a preference for compact groups with broad responsibility. That may create opportunities for employees who want to work across products, while requiring adaptation to centralized standards and faster decision cycles.

The available announcements and company descriptions do not establish a universal staffing outcome for every acquisition. They do not, by themselves, prove that a particular team was retained, expanded, relocated or eliminated. Employees should rely on their transaction documents, internal communications and applicable local labor protections for those questions.
From a career-risk perspective, employees should clarify reporting lines, compensation continuity, equity treatment, location expectations, product priorities and the timetable for systems integration. The parent’s long-term ownership statement may reduce sale-related uncertainty, but it does not remove the possibility of reorganizations when product economics or strategy changes.
Limits of the public evidence
Several of the most visible performance claims come from Bending Spoons itself: more than 200 Evernote improvements, sync speed increased by up to three times, Remini monthly active users up more than fivefold, more than 3 million recovered WeTransfer transfers and the introduction of Meetup’s free organizer plan. They should be read as management-reported outcomes, not independent evaluations.

The 2026 SEC filing supplies a formal view of revenue concentration and product categories, but it does not provide a complete before-and-after scorecard for user satisfaction, support quality, privacy incidents, staffing or churn for each app. Public acquisition announcements explain strategic intent, not every implementation detail.
That distinction matters when comparing owners. Bending Spoons’ concentrated operating model, IAC’s build-and-spinout history and Prosus’s diversified international portfolio are documented structural differences. They are not proof that one company always improves or worsens an acquired app. The appropriate test is product-specific: what changed, for whom, at what cost and with what measurable reliability.
Bottom line
Bending Spoons stands out for saying it buys consumer digital products to own and operate over the long term, then applies shared technology and focused teams to substantial product and monetization changes. Evernote, Meetup, Remini and WeTransfer provide concrete examples of that approach, while the company’s 2026 portfolio statistics show the scale it is pursuing.
IAC/People Incorporated is better understood as a broad consumer-internet builder and holding company whose history includes spinouts. Prosus is a global, diversified investment-and-operations group with significant marketplace and regional exposure. For users, the decisive issue is not the label attached to the owner but the post-acquisition details: pricing, free-tier limits, data portability, reliability, support and the product’s continued fit with the job it performs.
