The Dell 14 Plus fell to $500 in a limited Black Friday 2025 doorbuster, but that price applied to a specific configuration—not every Dell 14 Plus. The deal included an Intel Core Ultra 5 226V processor, 16 GB of memory, a 512 GB SSD, and a 14-inch 2560×1600 display. WIRED reported that the offer lasted through Saturday, November 29, 2025, or until inventory ran out. It is a historical deal, not a current August 2026 price.
What the $500 Dell 14 Plus included
| Component | Black Friday doorbuster configuration |
|---|---|
| Processor | Intel Core Ultra 5 226V |
| Memory | 16 GB |
| Storage | 512 GB SSD |
| Display | 14-inch, 2560×1600 IPS panel |
| Graphics | Integrated Intel graphics |
| Operating system | Windows |
| Form factor | Standard clamshell laptop |
WIRED described the $500 offer as a new low price for the Dell 14 Plus at the time. The promotion was limited to Dell US availability and could end early if stock disappeared. The exact deal configuration was the Core Ultra 5/16 GB/512 GB model.

That distinction matters because the Dell 14 Plus family also included faster and larger configurations. A higher-spec version with an Intel Core Ultra 7 256V processor and 1 TB of storage was reported at about $650. It was not the same model as the $500 doorbuster.

The $1,100 comparison needs context
Coverage of the deal often compared the $500 price with an approximately $1,100 launch price. That comparison can be misleading if it suggests the exact $500 configuration normally sold for $1,100. The launch price referred to a higher-end configuration that reportedly included the Core Ultra 7 256V, 32 GB of memory, and 1 TB of storage.

So the accurate takeaway is not simply “$600 off.” The stronger claim is that Dell temporarily sold a lower-spec but still well-equipped Dell 14 Plus for $500, while the premium launch configuration had cost roughly $1,100.
Why the deal was unusually attractive
At $500, the Dell 14 Plus offered several features that are uncommon on ordinary budget Windows laptops:
- A sharp 2560×1600 display rather than a basic 1080p panel.
- 16 GB of memory, enough for normal multitasking, schoolwork, and office applications.
- A 512 GB SSD with practical room for documents, applications, and media.
- A modern Intel Core Ultra V-series processor.
- A touchpad that WIRED considered a strength.
- Long battery life in testing.
- A useful selection of ports, including Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI 2.1.
WIRED’s comparison also positioned the Dell 14 Plus as more appealing than Dell’s lower-tier Dell 14 at similar pricing during that period, because the Plus offered a higher-resolution display and a stronger processor. That was an editorial comparison for the deal period, not a guarantee that every future Dell 14 Plus configuration will beat every Dell 14.

The Core Ultra 5 226V configuration was suited to browsing, email, word processing, spreadsheets, video calls, programming, streaming, and light photo editing. Its integrated graphics could handle general use and light gaming, but they did not turn the laptop into a gaming machine.
WIRED rated the Dell 14 Plus 6/10 and measured approximately 18 hours of battery life on its tested configuration. That is a review result, not a guaranteed runtime for the $500 model or for every workload. Brightness, browser activity, video meetings, performance settings, and processor configuration can materially change battery life.
For heavy 4K video editing, large 3D projects, sustained workstation workloads, or modern AAA games at high settings, a laptop with a dedicated graphics processor would be a better fit.

Ports, size, and everyday usability
WIRED reported that the laptop included:
- One Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port.
- One USB-A port rated at 5 Gbps.
- HDMI 2.1.
- A headphone/audio jack.
It measured roughly 0.67 inches thick and weighed about 3.4 pounds. That makes it reasonably portable for school, commuting, and office use, but it is not among the lightest 14-inch laptops. The port selection is practical for users who connect monitors, accessories, or wired headphones without wanting to carry several adapters.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe compromises behind the low price
The Dell 14 Plus was not flawless, and the weaknesses become more important if its price rises well above $500.
Webcam and speakers
WIRED criticized the 1080p webcam and speakers. The laptop can handle video calls, but buyers who frequently present on camera or care about built-in audio quality may want an external webcam, headset, or monitor.
Screen bezels and finish
The display was sharp and colorful, but WIRED criticized the relatively thick plastic bezels. Later WIRED coverage also criticized the display’s heavy matte finish. These are tolerable compromises for many productivity users, but they keep the machine from feeling uniformly premium.
Biometric login
The power button included a fingerprint reader that was reported to work well, but the laptop lacked Windows Hello facial recognition.

At approximately 3.4 pounds, it is portable without being ultralight. Integrated graphics are fine for productivity and light creative work, but not for serious gaming or graphics-intensive professional applications.

Should you have bought it at $500?
Yes, if you needed a conventional Windows laptop for college, remote work, office tasks, browsing, streaming, and general productivity. The high-resolution screen, 16 GB of memory, modern processor, useful ports, and reported battery performance made the compromises easier to accept at $500.
Consider the roughly $650 higher-spec model if you needed 1 TB of storage or preferred the additional headroom of the Core Ultra 7 256V. That configuration cost more, so its value depended on the alternatives available at the time.
Skip it if you prioritized a top-tier webcam, strong speakers, an ultralight design, dedicated graphics, or a convertible touchscreen. The standard Dell 14 Plus is a clamshell laptop; the separately sold Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1 is a different product.
If you missed the $500 deal
Do not assume that a current listing has the same value. Dell frequently changes configurations and prices. A recently indexed Dell US listing showed a Dell 14 Plus configuration at $799.99 against a displayed market price of $1,349.99, but that price and inventory are volatile. Check the official Dell 14 Plus listing before treating any price as current.
Before buying, verify all of the following:
- The exact processor: Core Ultra 5 226V or Core Ultra 7 256V.
- Memory capacity, especially whether it is 16 GB or 32 GB.
- SSD capacity: 512 GB versus 1 TB or another option.
- Display resolution and panel specifications.
- That the listing is the standard clamshell rather than the 2-in-1.
- Stock status and estimated shipping date.
- Warranty, return terms, tax, and optional services at checkout.
Depending on your priorities, alternatives may make more sense: the MacBook Air for buyers comfortable with macOS and focused on portability, the Microsoft Surface Laptop for a more polished first-party Windows design, or the ASUS Zenbook family for travelers who prioritize low weight. A Chromebook can be the more economical choice for browser-first work, but it is not a substitute for Windows software compatibility.
Verdict
The Dell 14 Plus was an exceptional value at the historical $500 Black Friday 2025 price—not because it was perfect, but because it combined a high-resolution display, 16 GB of memory, a modern Intel processor, 512 GB of storage, and practical ports at a price usually associated with more basic laptops.
Its webcam, speakers, bezels, weight, and integrated graphics were real limitations. At $500, they were reasonable compromises for students and general productivity users. At a much higher price, compare the exact configuration with current Windows, macOS, lightweight, and Chromebook alternatives rather than relying on the old doorbuster headline.
