The best opportunity is not necessarily the product with the biggest “percent off” label: it is the computer or accessory with the right configuration, a credible price, clear return terms, and a useful life that justifies the purchase.
As of August 18, 2026, the most concrete offers include Dell’s PC-and-monitor promotion, dedicated Labor Day sale pages from Lenovo and HP, and broad Labor Day-filtered computer and accessory selections at Best Buy. Prices, stock, and terms can change before the holiday, so treat the prices below as dated signals—not guarantees.

The clearest current deal: Dell’s PC-plus-monitor bundle
Dell’s deals page listed a promotion for 50% off the Dell 27 Monitor SE2726H when purchased with a qualifying Dell PC or laptop. The page stated that the offer ended August 31, 2026, subject to change. This is potentially valuable for a home-office buyer who needs both products, but it is not a reason to overpay for the computer.

Use the bundle only if the PC is a good value on its own. Compare its processor, memory, SSD, display, warranty, and final configured price with similar systems at Best Buy, Lenovo, and HP. The monitor should also meet your needs: check resolution, refresh rate, stand adjustability, VESA support, and available inputs rather than relying on the discount percentage.
Dell’s page also showed these price signals on August 18:
- Dell 14 Plus 2-in-1: $999.99 versus a stated estimated value of $1,349.99.
- Dell 14 Plus: $1,529.99 versus a stated estimated value of $2,049.99.
Those “estimated value” figures are not proof of the lowest historical price. Confirm the exact processor, RAM, storage, display, operating system, seller, return policy, and current price before buying.
How to find the best laptop deal
For a new Windows laptop, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD are sensible targets when the budget allows. An 8GB system can handle light browsing, documents, email, and streaming, but it offers less headroom for multitasking and future software. A 128GB or 256GB drive can become restrictive after Windows, applications, updates, and personal files consume space.
Budget and everyday laptops
For a cheap laptop or one under $500, prioritize a current processor, 8GB or preferably 16GB of RAM, a 256GB or preferably 512GB SSD, and a 1920×1080 or 1920×1200 IPS display. Avoid choosing solely by an “up to” discount or by a brand label such as Core i7 or Ryzen 7. The specific processor generation and model matter.

- RAZER MECHANICAL MOUSE SWITCHES GEN-2 — With new gold-plated contact points, the switches are less prone to degrading and have a longer lifespan of up to 60-million clicks, so gamers can enjoy crisp execution that’s just as consistent
Do not buy a full Windows laptop with 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, or a 1366×768 “HD” display unless you understand the severe compromises. A low price can be false economy if the computer becomes slow or cramped quickly.
Student laptops
Students should consider weight, battery capacity, webcam quality, keyboard comfort, charging, and ports as seriously as processor speed. Check for USB-C charging, USB-A, HDMI, headphone connectivity, and support for external displays. A heavier gaming laptop may offer more performance but be inconvenient to carry to class.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Windows in S Mode restricts application installation unless the user switches out of it. Verify the edition and bundled software, and distinguish a temporary Microsoft 365 trial from a permanent license.
Work-from-home and business laptops
Remote workers should look for a good webcam and microphone, Wi-Fi, a comfortable keyboard, enough ports, and a practical docking path. Business-class models may justify a higher price through warranty, repairability, security features, and stronger chassis design, but compare the actual warranty and service terms rather than assuming every model offers the same support.
2-in-1s and MacBook alternatives
A convertible is worth paying for when tablet mode, pen input, or flexible positioning will be used regularly. Otherwise, a conventional laptop may provide better value. For MacBook shoppers, compare the discounted Mac configuration with Windows alternatives on battery expectations, software compatibility, ports, warranty, and storage—not merely screen size or processor branding.

ARM Windows laptops
Snapdragon-based Windows laptops can be attractive for battery-focused buyers, but verify compatibility with specialized applications, games, drivers, printers, VPN software, and peripherals. Battery-life potential does not guarantee that an ARM system is the right choice for a particular workflow.

A desktop deal should state whether the price includes a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Then check RAM, SSD capacity, integrated or discrete graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, noise, cooling, power-supply wattage and quality, internal expansion slots, case size, and access for upgrades.
An all-in-one can save space and reduce cable clutter, but its upgrade and repair options are often more limited than those of a tower. It is best suited to buyers who value a clean setup and straightforward office use over future component replacement.
Do not judge a computer marketed as a gaming PC by its CPU and RAM alone. The exact graphics card, power supply, cooling, storage, and upgradeability are usually more important. A “gaming” label paired with integrated graphics may be suitable for casual games, but not demanding modern titles.
Gaming laptop and gaming desktop deals
Start with the GPU, then evaluate the processor, cooling, memory, storage, display, and power delivery. A high-refresh display is wasted if the graphics processor cannot drive games at the panel’s resolution and refresh rate. Conversely, a powerful GPU may be poor value if the laptop has only 8GB of RAM, a small SSD, inadequate cooling, or a low-quality display.

Monitor deals by use case
| Use | Good starting point | Features worth checking |
|---|---|---|
| Basic office | 24–27 inches, 1080p or 1440p | Height-adjustable stand, VESA support, comfortable brightness, useful ports |
| Productivity | 27 inches or larger, 1440p or 4K | USB-C, USB hub, adjustable stand, Ethernet or daisy chaining where needed |
| Creative work | Resolution appropriate to the work | Color coverage, calibration, brightness, and panel uniformity |
| Gaming | Refresh rate matched to the GPU | Response behavior, adaptive sync, HDR capability, resolution, and inputs |
| Laptop docking | USB-C monitor with suitable power delivery | Wattage, video support, USB hub, Ethernet, and daisy chaining |
“4K” and “165Hz” do not by themselves establish monitor quality. Check whether the stand adjusts for height, whether the monitor supports VESA mounting, whether USB-C supplies enough power for your laptop, and whether advertised HDR is meaningful rather than merely present on the specification sheet. Built-in speakers may be convenient, but they should not replace checking the monitor’s core image and connectivity features.
Accessories worth buying during Labor Day
The best accessory discounts improve the setup in a measurable way:
- USB-C docks: Verify laptop compatibility, charging wattage, display outputs, Ethernet, and the number and speed of USB ports.
- External SSDs: Check capacity, interface, sustained-use expectations, warranty, and whether the drive is suitable for backups or active editing.
- Webcams and microphones: Prioritize image quality, autofocus, low-light behavior, microphone pickup, privacy features, and software support.
- Keyboards and mice: Consider ergonomics, layout, connection method, battery life, multi-device switching, and warranty. A wireless bundle can be convenient; a mechanical keyboard is not automatically more comfortable.
- Headsets: Check platform compatibility, microphone quality, comfort, wired versus wireless latency, and replacement parts.
- Surge protectors and UPS units: Match wattage and runtime to the equipment. A cheap power strip is not equivalent to a properly rated UPS.
- Stands and monitor arms: Confirm weight capacity, VESA pattern, desk thickness, and adjustability.
Be more skeptical of generic cables, adapters, RGB accessories, and bundled peripherals. The connector, data standard, power rating, compatibility, and warranty matter more than the sale badge.
Printer deals require total-cost math
A cheap printer can become expensive through ink or toner. Before buying, check cartridge or toner prices, page yield, duplex printing, automatic document feeder, scanning and copying, wireless reliability, subscription requirements, cartridge restrictions, third-party consumable availability, and estimated cost per page.

A monochrome laser printer often fits a household that mostly prints documents. An ink-tank printer may make more sense for high-volume color printing. A low-priced cartridge inkjet is worth considering only after you calculate the likely running cost.
HP’s Labor Day page promotes printer discounts, free shipping, and a 30-day return guarantee for printer purchases. Verify those terms on the individual product page because eligibility can vary by product and location. Include any required ink subscription in the ownership calculation.
Red flags that turn a sale into a bad deal
- The headline configuration has different RAM, storage, processor, or display specifications from the model in your cart.
- The listing uses a high “estimated value” instead of a documented recent selling price.
- The retailer mixes new, open-box, refurbished, and marketplace products in one result.
- The price requires a coupon, membership, student verification, trade-in, financing, or bundle.
- The sale price appears only after adding the product to the cart.
- The deal expires before September 7, 2026, or has a quantity limit.
- RAM is soldered and storage cannot be meaningfully upgraded.
- A USB-C monitor cannot provide enough power for the intended laptop.
- A gaming PC omits the power supply, cooling, or exact GPU details.
- A laptop has S Mode or a temporary software trial when you expected unrestricted applications or a permanent subscription.
Should you buy now or wait for Black Friday?
Buy now when the exact configuration is strong, the price is near a known normal low, the item meets an imminent school or work need, or a stated promotion—such as Dell’s monitor bundle—may end before Labor Day.

Wait when the discount is based only on an inflated list price, the machine has 8GB RAM or inadequate storage at a price that does not reflect the compromise, the platform is old, or the offer requires expensive add-ons. Black Friday may bring deeper discounts on some mainstream laptops, monitors, accessories, and older inventory, but waiting can also mean losing current stock or a configuration that fits your needs.
The defensible conclusion is that Labor Day is a good buying window—especially for back-to-school laptops, monitors, printers, gaming peripherals, and home-office equipment—but the holiday label matters less than the configuration and total cost.
A five-minute checkout checklist
- Copy the exact model number or SKU.
- Record processor, RAM, SSD, display resolution and refresh rate, GPU, operating system, and ports.
- Confirm the item is new and identify the seller.
- Read warranty, return, shipping, and restocking terms.
- Check whether the price requires a coupon, membership, student status, financing, trade-in, or bundle.
- Compare the configured price with at least one competing retailer or manufacturer.
- For printers, calculate ink or toner cost; for docks and monitors, confirm compatibility and power delivery.
- Save a screenshot or receipt showing the price and promotion expiration.
For discovery, use the Best Buy accessories filter, then verify the individual listing. Manufacturer sale pages from Dell, Lenovo, and HP are useful for configuration comparisons, but none should be treated as a recommendation by itself.
