But that was a promotion reported on May 8, 2025—not a deal you should assume is still active. T-Mobile’s current iPhone 16 Pro page says the product is no longer available, despite retaining generic “Starting at $0” financing language.
What the original T-Mobile deal offered
The historical promotion applied to the standard iPhone 16 Pro, reportedly beginning May 8, 2025. The advertised maximum discount was $1,000, matching the then-listed starting price of the 128GB model.

According to the contemporaneous report, customers did not have to surrender an existing phone. Instead, the offer generally required them to:
- Switch from another carrier by porting an eligible phone number;
- Activate a new voice line;
- Choose the qualifying premium plan identified in the coverage as Experience Beyond or Go5G Next;
- Finance the phone through T-Mobile’s equipment-installment plan; and
- Keep the account eligible for promotional credits for approximately 24 months.
Those plan names are historical references. T-Mobile’s plans and promotions have changed, so they should not be treated as current 2026 eligibility options without confirmation during live checkout.

The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
“Free” meant monthly bill credits—not a free, unlocked phone
The iPhone was financed first. T-Mobile then applied recurring promotional credits to offset the device payments over roughly two years. The wireless service itself was not free, and the phone was not simply handed over with no continuing obligation.
Under T-Mobile’s current promotional disclosures, canceling wireless service before the credits are complete can stop future credits and leave the remaining device balance due. Paying off the phone early, upgrading, or changing plans may also affect the credits, depending on the specific offer terms. The exact rules must be read in the checkout disclosures for the promotion you are actually accepting.
What customers could still have paid
Even with a $0 device payment after credits, a customer could still owe:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Monthly charges for the qualifying wireless plan;
- Taxes and regulatory fees;
- Sales tax on the phone, where applicable;
- A device connection or activation charge;
- Optional insurance, accessories, or protection plans; and
- Any remaining phone balance if eligibility ended early.
T-Mobile’s current disclosures say a $35 device connection charge may apply, and that credit approval or a deposit may be required. Taxes and fees are separate from advertised plan prices. Because the qualifying plan and pricing have changed since 2025, it would be misleading to present today’s plan price as the historical deal’s total cost.

Who was likely to qualify?
The offer was primarily aimed at people moving a number from another carrier and opening a new T-Mobile voice line. Existing T-Mobile customers who simply wanted to upgrade may not have met the new-line or port-in conditions. Adding a line to an existing account also would not automatically have made someone eligible.
Porting was another potential obstacle. Some business, prepaid, reseller, or otherwise restricted numbers may not qualify. T-Mobile’s phone-order workflow includes a number-eligibility check, so a successful transfer should be confirmed before canceling the old carrier account.
Keep the old carrier account active until the number transfer is complete. Canceling too early can cause the number to be lost or leave the transfer incomplete.

Under the reported 2025 promotion, yes. A trade-in was not required for the advertised iPhone 16 Pro credits. But “no trade-in required” did not mean “no conditions.” The qualifying port-in, new line, premium plan, device financing, and retention period effectively replaced the trade-in requirement.

The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
This distinction matters financially. If your existing phone has substantial resale or trade-in value, compare that value with the cost of moving to T-Mobile and remaining on the required plan. A no-trade-in offer is not automatically the cheapest option.
Were all iPhone 16 models included?
The 2025 coverage said the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus were also available free under the general promotion, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max could be reduced to approximately $200 rather than made completely free. Those were historical model-specific terms, not proof of current availability or pricing.
The iPhone 16 Pro itself launched on September 20, 2024, with a 6.3-inch OLED display and 128GB base storage. By 2026, it is an older iPhone generation, which is another reason to compare its remaining inventory and price with newer models before committing to a two-year carrier arrangement.
Is the deal still available?
Do not treat the original promotion as an active August or September 2026 deal. T-Mobile’s current product page says the iPhone 16 Pro is “no longer available.” The page’s generic “Starting at $0” language does not override that availability notice and is not evidence that the historical promotion can still be ordered.

Checkout checklist for any replacement offer
If T-Mobile presents a similar iPhone promotion, verify each item before submitting an order:
- Availability: Confirm the phone can actually be added to the cart. Check the exact storage, color, condition, and inventory source.
- Promotion: Confirm the credit amount, monthly credit, and total number of credit months in the order summary.
- Plan: Confirm the exact current plan required and its full monthly price, including line-count assumptions.
- Port-in: Check that your number is eligible before canceling your existing service.
- Upfront costs: Look for sales tax, the possible $35 device connection charge, deposits, and other fees.
- Exit terms: Read what happens to credits if you cancel, change plans, pay off the phone, or upgrade early.
- Documentation: Save screenshots of the offer, checkout disclosures, and final order confirmation.
T-Mobile also warns that changing plans can affect existing promotions. A cheaper plan may save money each month but cost more overall if it removes device credits or other account discounts.

How to decide whether a bill-credit phone is worth it
Compare the full two-year cost—not just the phone payment. A useful calculation is:
Best Value
- STUNNING TITANIUM DESIGN—iPhone 16 Pro Max has a strong and light titanium design with a larger 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR display. It’s remarkably durable with the latest-generation Ceramic Shield material that’s 2x tougher than any smartphone glass.
- BUILT FOR APPLE INTELLIGENCE—Apple Intelligence is the personal intelligence system that helps you write, express yourself, and get things done effortlessly. With groundbreaking privacy protections, it gives you peace of mind that no one else can access your data.
- TAKE TOTAL CAMERA CONTROL—Camera Control gives you an easier way to quickly access camera tools, like zoom or depth of field, so you can take the perfect shot in record time.
Total cost = wireless service for the commitment period + taxes and fees + upfront charges + remaining device costs − promotional credits.
Then compare that figure with buying an iPhone directly from Apple and choosing the least expensive suitable wireless plan. Also consider coverage where you live and work, the value of your current phone, the ability to leave freely, and whether you need a newer iPhone generation.
The historical offer could have made sense for someone already planning to switch, willing to stay with T-Mobile for the entire credit period, and specifically seeking an iPhone 16 Pro without giving up an old device. It was a poor fit for someone likely to change carriers, wanting an unlocked phone bought outright, or moving to an expensive premium plan solely to obtain a “free” handset.

Bottom line: T-Mobile’s no-trade-in iPhone 16 Pro promotion was genuine in May 2025, but it was a conditional bill-credit offer, not free wireless service or an immediately free unlocked phone. T-Mobile now marks the iPhone 16 Pro as unavailable, so only rely on a similar deal if it appears with complete terms in a live checkout.
