Short answer: Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG) is a diversified industrial holding company whose businesses include cement and green solutions, chemicals, packaging, clean energy, décor, logistics and other investments. PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (PTTGC, or GC) is PTT Group’s chemicals flagship, so its results and risks are tied more directly to petrochemical cycles, feedstock costs and product spreads.
SCG provides a full FY2025 financial picture: sales of THB 496,925 million, EBITDA of THB 51,249 million and profit for the year of THB 14,075 million on the company’s stated basis. PTTGC’s official January 2026 update discusses strategy and financing but does not provide an audited, matched FY2025 income statement, balance sheet and segment schedule. That means you can compare business models and risk exposures now, but you should not declare a financial winner until equivalent PTTGC filings are aligned with SCG’s figures.

The essential distinction
SCG and PTTGC can appear similar because both are large Thai industrial companies with chemical operations. Their economic engines are different. SCG allocates capital across several businesses and describes itself as a holding company established in December 1913. PTTGC is the chemical flagship of the PTT Group and is organized around petrochemical production and related value chains.

SCG’s portfolio can spread exposure across construction materials, packaging and services, but it also creates conglomerate complexity and multiple capital demands. PTTGC offers a more focused way to gain exposure to chemicals, but that focus makes industry spreads, feedstock availability, energy prices and global trade conditions more consequential.

How SCG makes money
A holding-company portfolio
SCG’s business overview includes Cement and Green Solutions, SCG Chemicals (SCGC), SCG Packaging (SCGP), Cleanergy, Decor, Logistics and other investments. Cement is therefore important but does not describe the group as a whole. Revenue and cash flow can come from construction-linked products, packaging demand, chemical intermediates and polymers, renewable or clean-energy projects, logistics and smaller investments.
The portfolio changes the way diversification works. A weak construction cycle may pressure cement and décor while packaging volumes remain steadier; conversely, a chemical downturn can offset gains elsewhere. Diversification reduces dependence on one end market, but investors must still examine each segment’s margins, debt and capital spending rather than rely on a consolidated headline.
Where SCG’s 2025 operating profit came from
| SCG segment | FY2025 sales | FY2025 EBITDA | FY2025 profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cement and Green Solutions | THB 82,723 million | THB 14,373 million | THB 5,827 million |
| Chemicals | THB 209,313 million | THB 4,166 million | Not stated in the cited FY2025 figures |
| Packaging | THB 124,374 million | THB 17,226 million | Not stated in the cited FY2025 figures |
| Other businesses and eliminations | Balance of consolidated sales | Balance of consolidated EBITDA | Included in group result |
The segment figures show why SCG should not be treated as a cement-only stock. Chemicals generated the largest listed segment sales, while packaging produced more EBITDA than chemicals in the supplied FY2025 breakdown. Cement and Green Solutions had lower sales than either, yet reported THB 5,827 million of profit.

A chemicals-focused model
PTTGC describes itself as PTT Group’s chemical flagship. Its economics depend on converting hydrocarbon feedstocks into petrochemical products sold into global and regional markets. Earnings are influenced by the difference between product prices and feedstock, utilities, transport and operating costs. That spread can widen or contract quickly as capacity, demand, inventories, energy prices and trade rules change.
A focused chemicals model can make operating performance easier to interpret than a conglomerate’s, because volume, utilization, product mix and spreads are central drivers. It also removes much of the protection that a diversified portfolio may provide during a sector downturn. PTTGC’s January 2026 update explicitly described significant challenges in the petrochemical industry and the global economy.
Feedstock security as a strategic priority
In 2025, PTTGC announced an agreement to import U.S. ethane, with deliveries expected to begin in 2029. The company says the arrangement is intended to improve feedstock security and flexibility without additional infrastructure investment or significant modifications to existing production systems. Those are management’s expected benefits, not independently verified results. Investors should test the plan against contract terms, delivered-cost assumptions, timing, plant compatibility and the spread between ethane-based and other feedstocks.

SCG’s FY2025 financials
The following figures are reported by The Siam Cement Public Company Limited for the fiscal years ended December 31. They are in Thai baht unless noted otherwise.
| Metric | FY2025 | FY2024 | Change or qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revenue from sales | THB 496,925 million | THB 511,172 million | Down about 2.8% year over year |
| EBITDA | THB 51,249 million | THB 53,946 million | Down 5%, according to SCG |
| Profit for the year | THB 14,075 million | THB 6,342 million | FY2025 overview figure excludes restructuring expenses and extra items totaling THB 13,307 million |
| Net debt | THB 280,259 million | Not stated in the cited comparison | FY2025 results release |
| Net debt/EBITDA | 5.5× reported; 5.1× adjusted | Not stated in the cited comparison | Adjusted ratio uses SCG’s own adjustment |
| Finance cost | THB 10,738 million | Not stated in the cited comparison | FY2025 |
| Cash under management | THB 52,447 million | Not stated in the cited comparison | FY2025 |
| Capital expenditure and investments | THB 30,737 million | Not stated in the cited comparison | FY2025 |
SCG’s audited FY2025 disclosure to the Stock Exchange of Thailand also reported profit attributable to owners of THB 14,075 million and earnings per share of THB 11.73. The investor financial overview presents the profit figure on a basis that excludes restructuring expenses and extra items totaling THB 13,307 million. Do not substitute that number for a separately defined adjusted profit, and do not combine it with the SCG results release’s discussion of inventory adjustments without checking each document’s definition.
Why sales and EBITDA fell while reported profit rose
SCG says FY2025 EBITDA declined 5% year over year. Its explanations include restructuring and extra items, an inventory adjustment in SCGC and appreciation of the baht. These factors can affect operating profit, translation of overseas results and the timing of recognized costs. A higher reported profit therefore does not mean the underlying operating trend improved across every segment.
The group’s consolidated sales fell from THB 511,172 million to THB 496,925 million. Using those company figures, EBITDA represented roughly 10.3% of FY2025 sales versus about 10.6% in FY2024. Those percentages are simple calculations from reported totals, not management-defined margins and not a substitute for segment margins.
What is currently known about PTTGC’s finances
PTTGC’s official January 2026 strategy and financing update is not an audited FY2025 results release. It does not provide a matched set of FY2025 revenue, EBITDA, profit, net debt, debt maturities and segment margins that can be compared directly with SCG.

The update says PTTGC issued USD 1.1 billion of U.S.-dollar-denominated subordinated perpetual debentures and THB 10 billion of baht-denominated subordinated perpetual debentures during 2025. PTTGC says proceeds from the dollar issuance support a debt-reduction plan and long-term growth. Perpetual subordinated securities have characteristics that differ from ordinary senior debt, so an analyst should read their accounting, coupon, call and ranking terms before calculating leverage.

These financing actions provide context about liquidity and capital structure, but they do not establish PTTGC’s revenue, profitability or net-debt ranking against SCG. Until audited PTTGC statements for the same period are available, write “not stated” rather than infer a figure from the financing announcement.
Main risks for SCG
Macroeconomic and demand risk
SCG identifies economic uncertainty in global and domestic markets, changing trade policies and volatile energy movements as external challenges. Cement, décor and logistics can be sensitive to construction activity, infrastructure spending, household income and freight demand. Packaging demand depends on consumer and industrial volumes, while chemicals respond to global manufacturing and inventory cycles.
Chemical-cycle and inventory risk
SCGC’s inventory adjustment was one of the pressures discussed in SCG’s FY2025 results. Inventory can lose value when product prices fall faster than the cost at which materials were purchased. That risk is distinct from a sustained change in production economics and should be separated when evaluating recurring earnings.
Currency and financing risk
SCG cited baht appreciation as a FY2025 pressure. A stronger baht can reduce the baht value of overseas earnings and alter export competitiveness, although the exact effect varies by currency, hedge and cost base. Net debt of THB 280,259 million and reported net debt/EBITDA of 5.5× also make interest rates, refinancing access and cash generation important. The 5.1× adjusted ratio is a different presentation and should not be treated as the statutory ratio.
Conglomerate execution risk
Managing businesses with different cycles requires disciplined capital allocation. A project that is attractive for packaging may not have the same return profile as a cement expansion or chemical turnaround. Investors should examine segment returns, intercompany transactions, impairment testing, restructuring costs and whether investment spending is directed toward businesses with durable advantages.
Main risks for PTTGC
Petrochemical spreads and global capacity
PTTGC is more directly exposed to the petrochemical cycle than SCG’s consolidated portfolio. New global capacity, weak manufacturing demand or high inventories can reduce product spreads even when plants run efficiently. A focused producer cannot offset a prolonged chemicals downturn with profits from packaging, cement or logistics.
Rank #4
Feedstock, energy and operating risk
Feedstock cost and availability are central to margins. PTTGC’s planned U.S. ethane imports are intended to improve security and flexibility, but the benefit depends on delivery beginning as expected in 2029 and on realized costs and operating performance. Energy volatility can raise both direct production costs and transportation expenses.
Trade and geopolitical risk
Petrochemical products move through international supply chains. Tariffs, sanctions, shipping disruption and regional oversupply can change destination economics. PTTGC’s January 2026 update refers to industry and global-economic challenges and management responses including optimization, digital maintenance and pricing tools; these are actions and intentions, not proof that earnings risk has been eliminated.
Leverage and refinancing risk
The 2025 subordinated perpetual-debt issues may support debt reduction and growth, but they also create coupon, call-date and investor-expectation considerations. A proper assessment requires PTTGC’s debt maturity ladder, interest expense, cash balances, covenant terms and cash-flow statement, none of which are supplied in the January update as a matched FY2025 package.
Which company is more exposed to petrochemical-cycle risk?
PTTGC is the more direct exposure because chemicals are its defining business and management’s strategy is centered on petrochemical optimization and feedstock security. SCG also has substantial chemical exposure through SCGC: chemicals represented THB 209,313 million of SCG’s FY2025 sales, the largest sales figure among the listed segments. However, SCG’s packaging, cement and green-solutions activities create other earnings streams.
Diversification does not make SCG immune. A severe chemicals downturn can still affect a large portion of group sales, and the portfolio may carry higher coordination and capital-allocation complexity. The practical difference is concentration: PTTGC’s consolidated results should move more directly with chemical spreads, while SCG’s group result depends on how several cycles interact.

What SCG reports
SCG spent THB 30,737 million on capital expenditure and investments in FY2025, reported cash under management of THB 52,447 million and incurred finance cost of THB 10,738 million. Net debt of THB 280,259 million produced reported net debt/EBITDA of 5.5× and an adjusted 5.1×. These numbers suggest that cash generation, divestments, operating improvement and refinancing terms deserve as much attention as headline profit.

What to request for PTTGC
For PTTGC, collect the audited FY2025 balance sheet and cash-flow statement, gross and net debt reconciliations, debt maturities, average interest rate, perpetual-debt treatment, cash balance, capital spending and dividend payments. Then calculate leverage using the same EBITDA definition and period used for SCG. A ratio built from a management-adjusted EBITDA for one company and reported EBITDA for the other will mislead.
How to make an apples-to-apples comparison
- Align the period. Use fiscal years that end on comparable dates. SCG’s strongest disclosed set here is the year ended December 31, 2025; do not pair it with an earlier PTTGC year.
- Map segments. Separate chemicals, packaging, cement, energy, logistics and other activities. Consolidated sales alone can hide which businesses generate cash.
- Reconcile earnings definitions. Put reported profit, EBITDA and management adjustments in separate columns. Identify restructuring, inventory and unusual items rather than silently adding or removing them.
- Compare margins and cash flow. Review EBITDA margin, operating cash flow, maintenance capital expenditure, working-capital movements and free cash flow by segment where available.
- Normalize leverage. Include gross debt, cash, net debt, finance cost, maturity dates and the treatment of subordinated perpetual securities. Use the same EBITDA basis.
- Stress the key drivers. Model weaker construction demand for SCG, narrower chemical spreads for both companies, higher feedstock and energy costs, baht movements and adverse trade-policy changes.
- Check capital allocation. Compare dividends, growth investments, restructuring spending, acquisitions, asset sales and stated debt-reduction plans over the same period.
- Only then consider valuation. Share price, market capitalization and valuation multiples must come from a common date. No common-date market valuation data is established here.
Questions an investor should ask before choosing between them
Is SCG safer because it is diversified?
Not automatically. Diversification can reduce dependence on one market, but SCG still carries chemical-cycle exposure, substantial net debt and execution risk across multiple businesses. Safety depends on cash-flow resilience, debt service, segment performance and valuation, not the number of subsidiaries.
Does PTTGC’s feedstock plan guarantee better margins?
No. The U.S. ethane arrangement is intended to improve security and flexibility, with deliveries expected from 2029. Actual benefit will depend on delivered cost, product prices, utilization, logistics and execution. Treat the plan as a strategic initiative rather than a realized earnings improvement.

Can SCG’s FY2025 profit be compared directly with PTTGC’s next reported profit?
Only after checking accounting basis and adjustments. SCG’s quoted FY2025 overview profit excludes restructuring expenses and extra items totaling THB 13,307 million, while its results release separately discusses inventory and other items. PTTGC’s figure must be labeled similarly before a comparison is meaningful.
Bottom line for a personal-finance investor
Choose the comparison framework before choosing a company. SCG is the broader industrial portfolio, with visible 2025 sales, EBITDA, profit, debt and segment data but meaningful leverage and conglomerate complexity. PTTGC is the purer petrochemical exposure, with management focused on optimization, debt reduction and feedstock security, yet its audited FY2025 financial picture is not available in the cited January 2026 update.
The defensible conclusion is qualitative rather than a ranking: PTTGC carries greater direct petrochemical-cycle concentration, while SCG offers broader business exposure but remains financially sensitive to chemicals, currency, energy and debt service. Obtain matched PTTGC statements and align definitions before making a quantitative investment decision.
