Short answer: January 30 referred to the expiration or replacement of several Public Mobile Canada/U.S./Mexico plan offers—not the permanent end of the service category. The deadline was January 30, 2025, and Public Mobile’s plan and coverage pages continued to show Canada-U.S.-Mexico options in the August 2026 research snapshot.
If you already had one of the older plans, do not assume you were automatically cancelled, migrated, or protected. Check your account’s current plan details before making any change.

What ended on January 30, 2025?
A January 29, 2025 report from MobileSyrup said Public Mobile had placed January 30 end-date labels on several Canada/U.S./Mexico 5G offers. The reported offers were:

| $45 per month | 75GB | Offer marked to end January 30, 2025 |
| $55 per month | 100GB | Offer marked to end January 30, 2025 |
Those prices and allowances are historical figures. They should not be treated as Public Mobile’s current 2026 pricing. The same report also described changes to some 4G plans, including price or data adjustments.

“Plans ending” did not necessarily mean service was cancelled
Wireless headlines often use “end” to describe an offer being withdrawn. That is different from ending an entire product category or cancelling every subscriber.
- Offer expiration: A promotional price or data configuration is no longer available to new customers.
- Plan retirement: A specific plan may be replaced, closed to new sign-ups, or removed from the available plan list.
- Migration: An existing customer may be moved to another plan, offered a replacement, or allowed to retain a legacy plan. The treatment can depend on the account and terms.
- Service cancellation: The line itself is terminated. The available reporting does not establish that this happened universally to customers on the affected offers.
The original report anticipated replacement plans rather than declaring that Public Mobile was abandoning Canada-U.S.-Mexico service altogether. It also connected the timing with changes at Freedom Mobile, but that was market context—not a confirmed explanation from Public Mobile.
Does Public Mobile still offer Canada-U.S.-Mexico plans?
Yes. Public Mobile’s plans page and coverage page continued to list and market qualifying Canada-U.S.-Mexico plans in the research snapshot dated August 18, 2026.
The coverage page describes one plan covering Canada, the United States, and Mexico, without requiring a plan change while travelling and without conventional overage charges under the applicable offer description. That does not mean every Public Mobile plan includes all three countries. A Canada-only or Canada-U.S. plan should not be assumed to include Mexico.
What Public Mobile’s current pages displayed
The main plans page viewed in August 2026 displayed these Canada-U.S.-Mexico price and data combinations:

| Monthly price | Displayed data |
|---|---|
| $35 | 25GB |
| $40 | 75GB |
| $45 | 125GB |
| $50 | 175GB |
The page labelled the displayed offers as limited-time promotions. A separate Public Mobile plan URL showed different allowances, including $40 for 70GB, $45 for 100GB, and $50 for 150GB. That variation may reflect a dynamic, personalized, regional, referral-linked, or rapidly changing offer.
For that reason, treat the table as a dated snapshot rather than a permanent price list. Before subscribing, record the exact price, data allowance, country eligibility, promotional terms, and renewal conditions shown in your own account or checkout flow.

What existing customers should do
There is no verified universal rule in the available material stating that every January 2025 subscriber was automatically migrated, grandfathered, or cancelled. Check your own account instead.
- Open your account and identify the exact plan name. Record the monthly price, data allowance, network type, and whether Canada/U.S./Mexico access is explicitly listed.
- Look for labels such as legacy, grandfathered, or limited time. Save screenshots or account records before changing anything.
- Compare the replacement offer with what you have. A lower price may come with less data, while a larger allowance may not justify a higher monthly cost if you rarely travel.
- Check whether the change is reversible. Do not assume an older promotional plan will remain available after you voluntarily switch. Confirm the applicable terms first.
- Review account notices and plan terms. If the displayed plan conflicts with your billing history or confirmation email, contact Public Mobile before making a change.
A new price after January 30, 2025 could have resulted from the original offer expiring, a replacement plan, a discount ending, a customer-initiated change, or a targeted offer being replaced. Account history is necessary to determine which explanation applies.
How Canada/U.S./Mexico service works while travelling
For a qualifying plan, Public Mobile markets voice, text, and data access across the three countries. Community support discussions from January and February 2026 also describe included U.S. and Mexico service and the need to enable data roaming abroad. Those discussions are practical guidance, not a substitute for the formal terms of your specific plan.

Before crossing the border
- Confirm that your plan explicitly includes the United States and Mexico.
- Enable data roaming in your phone’s cellular or mobile-network settings.
- Confirm that the device supports VoLTE and is recognized or provisioned for use on the relevant networks.
- Check that your SIM or eSIM is active.
- Download essential maps, boarding passes, and contact information before departure.
Community guidance mentions AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon in the United States, and AT&T and Telcel in Mexico, but the available network can vary by location, device, plan, and partner access. Automatic network selection is normally the first choice; manual selection may help if registration fails.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRoaming is not unlimited data
Included roaming means eligible usage is covered by the plan; it does not necessarily mean unlimited high-speed data. After the included high-speed allowance is used, the applicable terms may reduce speed or stop data access. Public Mobile’s prepaid structure can reduce the risk of a conventional postpaid overage bill, but readers should still verify the plan’s exact billing and usage rules.
Troubleshooting: no service abroad
Your phone shows no service
- Turn airplane mode on for about 30 seconds, then turn it off.
- Restart the phone.
- Confirm mobile data and data roaming are enabled.
- Set network selection to automatic.
- If automatic registration fails, try a supported partner network manually.
- Confirm the account is active and the plan is eligible for the country you are visiting.
- Check SIM/eSIM activation and device compatibility.
Data works, but calls fail
VoLTE compatibility or provisioning is a likely cause. A phone can technically support VoLTE but still fail if Public Mobile does not recognize or provision it for the applicable roaming arrangement. Check the device’s compatibility and account status before relying on the line for calls abroad.
Mexico is not working
First verify that the plan includes Mexico specifically. Canada/U.S. access does not automatically establish Mexico access. Then repeat the roaming, network-selection, and account checks above.
Should you switch plans or providers?
The best choice depends on how often you cross the border and what you need when you arrive.

| Your situation | Likely approach |
|---|---|
| You regularly use one number in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico | Compare a dedicated Canada-U.S.-Mexico plan, including data, hotspot, calling, eSIM, and network terms. |
| You travel internationally only occasionally | Compare the annual cost of a Canadian domestic plan plus a travel eSIM or local option. |
| You have an unusually cheap legacy plan | Check whether switching would permanently forfeit the old price or allowance. |
| You need reliable service in a specific rural destination | Check partner-network coverage in that exact area rather than relying on the plan label alone. |
| You value in-person support | Compare support channels and retail availability, not just monthly price. |
Before choosing, compare the recurring price after discounts, data in each country, hotspot limits, voice and SMS inclusion, 4G versus 5G access, eSIM activation, device requirements, contract or financing conditions, and whether the offer is limited-time.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Freedom Mobile and other alternatives
Freedom Mobile is the most directly relevant Canadian comparison. MobileSyrup reported that Freedom had replaced a $35/50GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico offer with a $39/60GB plan, while the lower price could still be available through a home-internet bundle. Those were January 2025 figures and are not presented here as current pricing.
Freedom may suit readers who want another Canadian carrier with cross-border offerings, a broader retail presence, or possible bundle discounts. Public Mobile may be more appealing to readers who prefer prepaid simplicity or want to protect an existing Public Mobile account setup. Current Freedom pricing and terms require fresh verification.
Other providers worth checking include Rogers, Bell, TELUS, and Fido. Travellers who visit the U.S. or Mexico only occasionally can also compare local or travel eSIM options, including AT&T Prepaid and T-Mobile Prepaid. Their current prices, eligibility, and roaming terms were not independently verified for this article.

The accurate interpretation is narrow: Public Mobile ended or revised particular Canada-U.S./Mexico offers on January 30, 2025. It did not permanently eliminate Canada-U.S./Mexico plans as a product category. Public Mobile continued to advertise qualifying plans in the August 2026 snapshot, but individual prices, allowances, promotions, and legacy-plan treatment can change.

Frequently Asked Questions
Did Public Mobile cancel all Canada-U.S.-Mexico plans on January 30?
No. January 30, 2025 referred to specific offers ending or being replaced. Public Mobile continued to list Canada-U.S.-Mexico plans in the August 2026 research snapshot.
Did existing customers automatically lose service?
The available evidence does not establish one universal outcome. Check your account’s plan name, price, data allowance, notices, and terms before changing anything.
Does every Public Mobile plan include Mexico?
No. Mexico must be explicitly included in the plan description or terms. Canada-only and Canada-U.S. plans should not be assumed to include Mexico.
Why might roaming fail even when the plan includes the country?
Common causes include disabled data roaming, SIM or eSIM problems, unsupported or unrecognized VoLTE, automatic network-selection failure, account eligibility issues, or limited partner coverage in the destination.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: January 30 was a deadline for particular Public Mobile Canada-U.S.-Mexico offers in 2025—not the disappearance of cross-border plans. Verify your exact account or checkout offer, preserve a valuable legacy plan before switching, and confirm device, roaming, and partner-network requirements before travelling.
