Prove Identity announced a $40 million funding round on October 17, 2023, led by MassMutual Ventures and Capital One Ventures. Prove said it would use the money to expand internationally and develop new commerce and fraud-prevention applications. The announcement is historical; it does not establish the company’s current financing or financial position.
What Prove Identity does
Prove sells digital identity verification and authentication software to businesses. Its offering is intended to help companies verify customers, streamline onboarding and authenticate people during digital transactions. Prove described its platform and Prove Identity Network as supporting transactions across the customer journey, including mobile, desktop and in-store channels. Prove’s October 2023 announcement introduced Prove Pre-Fill for onboarding and authentication and said the company had launched Prove Auth for passwordless login and omnichannel authentication.

How its phone-centered approach works
TechCrunch’s contemporaneous account described Prove’s approach as linking mobile SIM data with smartphone functions such as facial recognition. The process can be used to authenticate a user, pre-fill information, support customer verification flows and enable password-free authentication. These descriptions explain the intended product approach; they are not an independent security assessment or technical test.

Who led the $40 million round, and what was the money for?
MassMutual Ventures and Capital One Ventures led the $40 million round, according to Prove’s announcement dated October 17, 2023. MassMutual Ventures partner Charles Svirk was quoted in the announcement and was reported to be joining Prove’s board.

Prove used several company-reported figures to describe its business and platform in October 2023. They should be read as claims from the company, not independently validated results:

Prove also said at the time that its customers included nine of the top ten U.S. banks, two of the top three global cryptocurrency exchanges, three of the top five U.S. retailers, two of the top three U.S. healthcare companies and six of the top ten U.S. insurers. These are company-reported customer claims from 2023, not a current customer roster. The announcement listed partnerships with Visa, FanDuel and Experian. TechCrunch also named Experian, Visa, Starbucks, BlueCross BlueShield and DocuSign as customer examples and reported that FanDuel had recently signed on.
Did Prove disclose its valuation?
No exact valuation was disclosed by Prove in its announcement. TechCrunch reported that sources close to the company put its valuation above $1 billion. That figure is a reported estimate attributed to those sources, not a valuation confirmed by the company.

What this funding story does—and does not—show
The round marked a financing announcement for an enterprise identity-verification provider, not proof that its tools outperform alternatives or prevent fraud in every setting. Prove’s onboarding, abandonment and fraud percentages are company claims, and the cited announcement and contemporaneous coverage do not provide independent testing or a controlled comparison with competitors. Businesses assessing identity tools would need to compare the identity signals used, supported channels, customer friction, security controls and quality of performance evidence for their own requirements.
