Under $500: favor the configuration, not the discount percentage
The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 with Ryzen 5, 8GB RAM, and a 256GB SSD is a more capable Windows starting point than the N150 models, but 8GB remains an entry-level compromise. The HP OmniBook 3 Snapdragon configuration at $499.99 may offer an attractive OLED screen, but ARM compatibility needs checking before purchase.
Under $700: the strongest value candidates
The $529.99 Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3i is more attractive because it has 16GB of RAM, although its 256GB SSD is modest. The HP OmniBook X Flip at $649.99 combines a 2K OLED panel, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD with a convertible design. Check its exact processor, warranty, return window, and whether the displayed price requires a coupon.
MacBook buyers
The 13-inch MacBook Air M5 with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD was indexed at $1,099 at Best Buy. A June Amazon deal reportedly dropped the same broad configuration to $949, but that is historical evidence only. Do not reuse $949 as a current price without checking the live listing.
MacBooks make particular sense for people already invested in macOS, iPhone, and Apple services. Windows is generally the safer choice for gaming, Windows-only engineering or enterprise applications, broad peripheral compatibility, and some upgradeable hardware.

Gaming and creator workloads
Start with the GPU, then check the screen, cooling, RAM, storage, and power adapter. The G16 and G14 candidates pair high-end RTX graphics with OLED displays; the G14’s 32GB RAM is especially useful for demanding creative work. The Alienware candidate has 32GB RAM and 2TB storage, but its indexed price came from a page with stale timing information.
The historical MSI Vector 16 price must not be presented as a current deal. A gaming laptop with a powerful GPU but 8GB RAM, a small SSD, poor cooling, or a low-quality display may be worse value than a slightly more expensive balanced system.
Prime membership: include the fee in your calculation
Amazon lists Prime at $14.99 per month or $139 per year in the US, with an eligible 30-day trial. Prime Access is listed at $6.99 per month for qualifying government-assistance recipients. The trial is not permanently free; check renewal terms before starting it.
If a laptop is $20 cheaper with Prime but you would not otherwise use the membership, the effective saving may disappear after the subscription cost. Compare Amazon with Best Buy, Walmart, Lenovo, Dell, HP, and Apple before joining solely for one purchase.

Is 8GB RAM enough for a laptop?
