The best OpenPayd alternative depends on what your business needs to move: its own treasury funds, customer balances, international transfers, checkout payments or marketplace seller proceeds. Wise Platform is worth comparing for embedded or enterprise cross-border payments; Airwallex is a stronger candidate to assess when payment acceptance and marketplace flows matter. Neither is automatically a like-for-like replacement for OpenPayd’s combination of accounts, virtual IBANs, FX and digital-asset services.
Which OpenPayd alternative fits your funds flow?
“Payment infrastructure” can mean several different things. A company managing its own vendor payments has different needs from a fintech offering accounts to customers, a marketplace collecting payments and paying sellers, or a regulated institution processing cross-border transfers. Start by mapping the funds flow, then compare providers against that specific job.

- Managing company funds: Look for business balances, receiving capabilities, international transfers, FX and the relevant account model.
- Offering financial services to customers: Establish how embedded accounts or transfers work, who performs customer checks, and which party is responsible for each regulated activity.
- Accepting customer payments: Compare checkout, payment methods, settlement, fraud and disputes—not just account or transfer features.
- Paying marketplace sellers: Check connected-account onboarding, fund-flow controls, fee deductions, splits and payout destinations.
OpenPayd describes infrastructure for digital businesses that combines payments, accounts and traditional FX with digital-asset trading. Its business banking and marketplace descriptions also refer to virtual IBANs, international payments and payouts. Wise Platform distinguishes embedded, enterprise and correspondent models; Airwallex’s reviewed product description puts more emphasis on payment acceptance and marketplace payment flows.

| Provider | Best fit to investigate | Capabilities described by the provider | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenPayd | Embedded business or customer accounts, virtual IBANs, FX and international payouts; potentially relevant where digital-asset services are also needed. | Accounts, payments, traditional FX and digital-asset trading; its marketplace description lists accounts, virtual IBANs, FX and global payouts. OpenPayd also advertises a REST API and sandbox. | Eligible service and contracting entity for your geography; account structure, rails, compliance allocation and whether the specific digital-asset service is available for your use case. |
| Wise Platform | Cross-border transfers, balances, receiving funds or cards through an embedded, enterprise or correspondent arrangement. | Wise documents three partner models and says the model affects onboarding and authorization as well as transfer, balance and card functions. Its developer homepage advertises accounts in 160+ countries and receipts in 40+ currencies; these are Wise claims, not a guarantee of eligibility for a particular business or jurisdiction. | Which partner model applies; onboarding, KYC/KYB and due-diligence responsibilities; enabled services and local eligibility for your business. |
| Airwallex | Global pay-in acceptance, checkout, local payment methods or marketplace seller payment flows. | Airwallex advertises more than 160 payment methods, local-currency pricing, like-for-like settlement, hosted checkout, APIs, mobile SDKs, fraud and dispute features, and platform tools for connected accounts and seller proceeds. | Whether required account types, virtual IBANs, rails, FX features and jurisdictions are available. The described payment and marketplace functions do not establish parity with every OpenPayd account or digital-asset requirement. |
The figures in the table are not directly comparable: Wise’s country and currency claims describe account and receipt coverage, while Airwallex’s payment-method figure describes acceptance methods. Providers’ public pages do not establish comparable current pricing, a shared country-and-service matrix, or contract-level service commitments for one common business profile.

- ✔ NO FUNCTIONAL INTERFERENCE Our skins are thin enough to work with ATMs, card readers, and chip inserts (when applied correctly). They do not affect magnetic strips or chip functions.
- ✔ DURABLE & LONG-LASTING Printed on waterproof, scratch-resistant vinyl to stand up to regular use without fading or peeling.
- ✔ EASY TO APPLY & REMOVE Each skin is made with high-quality adhesive vinyl that applies smoothly without bubbles and removes cleanly without leaving sticky residue.
When does OpenPayd remain the better shortlist candidate?
Keep OpenPayd in consideration when the core requirement is a combination of business or customer accounts, virtual IBANs, FX and payouts. Its own site also describes digital-asset trading alongside traditional financial infrastructure, which may matter if that capability is genuinely part of the intended funds flow. OpenPayd says it processes over $300 billion annually; the reviewed homepage displayed no publication year, and the figure is a vendor claim rather than an independently validated statistic.
Do not assume that “global” means a particular service is available in every country. OpenPayd says the relevant entity depends on location and service. Ask which entity would contract with your business and confirm that it can support the exact product, flow and jurisdiction.

When should you compare Wise Platform?
Wise Platform is a candidate when your need fits one of its documented models rather than simply because you need “international payments.” Wise describes:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Embedded partners: Regulated financial institutions and fintech platforms offering Wise services within their own products.
- Enterprise partners: Businesses using Wise APIs to manage their own money, such as paying employees or vendors.
- Correspondent partners: Regulated financial institutions using Wise infrastructure to process cross-border payments for their own customers.
The arrangement affects which functions are available and how onboarding and authorization work. Wise also describes partner verification and customer KYC/KYB requirements, with due-diligence responsibilities depending on the partnership. Confirm those obligations with Wise for your intended model rather than assuming the enterprise, embedded and correspondent routes are interchangeable.

When should you compare Airwallex?
Airwallex deserves a closer look if the platform must accept customer payments or manage marketplace seller flows. Its payments page describes support for more than 160 payment methods, hosted checkout, APIs and mobile SDKs, as well as local-currency pricing and like-for-like settlement. For platforms and marketplaces, Airwallex describes connected accounts, onboarding and compliance workflows, fund-flow management, and splitting proceeds or routing funds to sellers after platform fees.
Those capabilities make Airwallex relevant to pay-ins and seller settlement, but they do not show that it supplies every account, virtual-IBAN, FX or digital-asset function a business might use OpenPayd for. Validate the required product combination and target markets directly.

How to evaluate providers for your business
- Draw the funds flow. Identify who pays, who receives, whose money is held or moved, whether funds belong to your company or customers, and where fees or marketplace commissions are deducted.
- Specify the operating model. State whether you are managing company treasury, embedding services for customers, processing for regulated clients, accepting merchant payments or paying sellers. For Wise, identify whether embedded, enterprise or correspondent is the relevant model.
- Confirm geography and contracting entity. Ask which countries and currencies are enabled for the exact service, which entity contracts with you, and what local restrictions apply. Do not treat a provider’s broad coverage claim as confirmation that your business qualifies.
- Allocate compliance responsibilities. Get clear on customer due diligence, KYC/KYB, safeguarding or holding funds, payment obligations and relevant licensing for the specific flow. Wise expressly describes partner and customer verification requirements; OpenPayd identifies different entities for different services.
- Make an account-and-rails checklist. Specify named or virtual IBANs, pooled or segregated structures, currencies, local rails, incoming payment receipt, international transfers, FX needs and payout timing for every target market.
- For checkout or marketplaces, test the whole payment lifecycle. Compare payment-method coverage, acquiring scope, connected-account onboarding, splitting, settlement controls, disputes, fraud workflows and seller payout options.
- Assess integration and operations. Review API documentation, sandbox access, webhooks, reconciliation, support, uptime commitments, migration requirements and contractual remedies. OpenPayd advertises a REST API and sandbox; comparable service-level terms are not established by the providers’ public product descriptions cited here.
- Request like-for-like commercial proposals. Give each provider the same jurisdiction, flow, volume, currency-conversion pattern, payout destinations, account model, support expectations and compliance scope. Without comparable quotes, a cheapest-provider ranking would not be meaningful.
Questions to put to each provider
- Can you support this exact funds flow in each country we plan to serve, and which legal entity will contract with us?
- Can we receive funds into named or virtual accounts, and what account structure and payment rails are available?
- Which party performs and records customer KYC/KYB, and who is responsible for ongoing due diligence?
- For marketplace payments, can funds be split, fees deducted and seller proceeds routed as required?
- Which FX, balance, card, payout or checkout functions are included in the proposed model?
- What API, sandbox, webhook, reconciliation, support and service-level provisions are included in the contract?
- What are the complete fees for our stated transaction mix, including FX, receiving, payouts, disputes and any minimums?
