Nintendo’s ordinary shares trade in Japan under stock code 7974 on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market. For a U.S.-market instrument, Citi identifies NTDOY as an over-the-counter (OTC), unsponsored American depositary receipt (ADR) representing four depositary receipts for one Nintendo ordinary share. The Tokyo auction sessions run from 9:00–11:30 and 12:30–15:30 Japan Standard Time (JST) on exchange business days. Nintendo reported a 219-yen-per-share dividend for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, and displays a 162-yen annual forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027.
This guide separates the Japanese ordinary share from the U.S. ADR, explains the dividend dates and policy, and shows how to interpret Tokyo trading hours without treating broker schedules or tax rules as universal.
What is Nintendo’s stock ticker?
Nintendo’s official investor-relations FAQ answers the question “What is the stock ticker number of Nintendo?” with “It is 7974.” The company’s share-status page identifies 7974 as the stock code and the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) Prime Market as the listing venue. The share-status figures are stated as of March 31, 2026. See Nintendo’s Investor Relations FAQ and Status of Shares.

That code refers to Nintendo Co., Ltd.’s Japanese ordinary shares. It is not the symbol used for the U.S. depositary receipt. The TSE Prime Market designation dates from the Japanese exchange market restructuring on April 4, 2022, according to Nintendo’s FAQ.
What is the trading unit?
Nintendo’s FAQ says the trading unit is 100 shares. A Japanese-market order therefore has to be considered in relation to that unit, subject to the order rules and account capabilities of the intermediary you use. The 100-share unit does not mean every investor everywhere must buy exactly 100 economic equivalents: an ADR is a separate instrument with its own receipt ratio and market conventions.

What is NTDOY?
NTDOY is an OTC, unsponsored ADR for Nintendo. Citi’s current depositary-receipt details identify the program as OTC and unsponsored, with a 1:4 ordinary-share-to-depositary-receipt ratio: one Nintendo ordinary share corresponds to four NTDOY depositary receipts. In simple ratio terms, four receipts represent one ordinary share before considering market prices, conversion mechanics, fees, or other adjustments. The program details are listed by Citi’s depositary-receipt guide.
NTDOY is therefore not Nintendo’s Tokyo ticker and is not a U.S.-listed ordinary share. It trades in the OTC market rather than on the TSE Prime Market. Citi’s 2022 corporate-action notice records that the ratio changed from 1:8 to 1:4; the current ratio should be checked on the depositary’s live program page before placing an order. The ratio-change notice is available at Citi’s corporate-action notice.

The table describes the instruments, not which one is preferable. Broker availability, commissions, foreign-exchange charges, depositary fees, execution quality and tax treatment depend on your country, account and intermediary. The cited sources do not establish a universal rule for any of those items, so they should not be inferred from the ticker or the 1:4 ratio.
When does Nintendo trade in Tokyo?
Japan Exchange Group (JPX) lists two domestic-stock auction sessions for the Tokyo market:
| Item | Japan time (JST, UTC+9) |
|---|---|
| Morning auction session | 9:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. |
| Afternoon auction session | 12:30 p.m.–3:30 p.m. |

Which days is the TSE closed?
JPX states that the domestic-stock market is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, January 1–3 and December 31. Japan’s holiday calendar can differ from the calendar in your country. A U.S. holiday may leave the Tokyo market open, while a Japanese holiday can halt 7974 even when your local market is operating.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow should you convert JST to your local time?
JST is UTC+9 and Japan does not use daylight-saving time. Your local equivalent can change when your country changes its clocks, so use the date as well as the time when converting. For example, a session that is late evening in one North American time zone can shift by an hour seasonally even though Tokyo’s clock does not change. Do not assume that an overnight quote is live merely because your local clock shows the previous calendar day.
Are NTDOY trading hours the same as Tokyo’s?
No official source cited here gives a single NTDOY session schedule that can be applied to every investor. NTDOY is an OTC ADR, and the practical order-entry and execution window is affected by the broker and the OTC venue’s operating arrangements. Tokyo’s 9:00–11:30 and 12:30–15:30 JST schedule applies to the Japanese ordinary shares, not automatically to the ADR.
When comparing a Tokyo quote with an NTDOY quote, account for the four-receipt-to-one-share ratio, currency conversion, the time difference, and the possibility that the two markets are not open simultaneously. A price comparison made without those adjustments can look inconsistent even when the instruments are tracking the same underlying company.

What is Nintendo forecasting for the next fiscal year?
For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, Nintendo’s dividend page displays a 162-yen annual forecast per share. The interim and year-end components are shown as not yet determined on that page. It lists record dates of September 30, 2026 and March 31, 2027.
As of October 13, 2026, the September 30, 2026 interim record date had already passed while the page still displayed the interim amount as not yet determined. Treat 162 yen as the company’s displayed forecast, not a guaranteed payment or a final split between interim and year-end distributions. Recheck the dividend page and Nintendo’s IR Calendar for an updated amount and schedule before relying on it.

How does Nintendo set its dividend?
Nintendo says it pays dividends after considering the profit level for the fiscal year. Its May 8, 2026 year-end notice describes a revised annual-dividend rule applying from the year-end dividend for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026. The annual dividend per share is set at the higher of two calculations:
- A per-share amount based on 40% of consolidated operating profit for the fiscal year, divided by the number of outstanding shares excluding treasury shares at fiscal year-end and rounded up to the nearest yen.
- An amount based on a 60% consolidated payout ratio, also rounded up to the nearest yen.
“The annual dividend per share is established at the higher of the amount calculated by dividing 40% of consolidated operating profit for the fiscal year by the total number of outstanding shares, excluding treasury shares, as of the end of the fiscal year rounded up to the 1 yen digit, or the amount calculated based on the 60% consolidated payout ratio rounded up to the 1 yen digit.”
This is Nintendo’s wording in its Notice of Dividend dated May 8, 2026. It should not be presented as a timeless formula: Nintendo notes that the interim rule and earlier policy differ, and the revised policy applies from the specified FY2026 year-end dividend.

The record date identifies the shareholder register date used for a distribution. The effective or payment date is when Nintendo states the distribution takes effect. For FY2026, the interim record date was September 30, 2025 and the stated effective date was December 1, 2025; the year-end record date was March 31, 2026 and the effective date was June 29, 2026.

Those dates describe the Japanese issuer’s distribution timetable. An ADR holder may see a different practical timetable because the depositary must process the underlying dividend, currency conversion and any applicable charges. The cited sources do not establish a universal NTDOY payment date, withholding amount or tax result.

Does Nintendo offer shareholder perks?
Nintendo’s investor-relations FAQ says the company has no special shareholder benefit plan. The ordinary dividend is therefore separate from any merchandise, discount or loyalty benefit; the cited FAQ does not describe a recurring shareholder-perk program.
What to verify before placing an order
- Identify the security. Confirm whether the order is for Japanese ordinary shares under 7974 or the OTC ADR under NTDOY.
- Check the venue and hours. For 7974, use JPX’s current domestic-stock calendar and JST sessions. For NTDOY, check your broker’s OTC order and execution rules.
- Apply the ratio correctly. Citi’s current program information states four DRs for one ordinary share. Do not compare one NTDOY quote with one 7974 share without adjusting for that ratio.
- Read the latest corporate-action information. ADR ratios and processing terms can change; Citi’s 2022 notice documents the earlier change from 1:8 to 1:4.
- Check costs and tax treatment for your situation. Commission schedules, foreign-exchange costs, depositary fees, settlement practices and tax rules are account- and jurisdiction-specific and are not established by the issuer or JPX pages cited here.
- Verify the dividend status. Use Nintendo’s dividend page for the latest declared amount, record date and payment information instead of treating a forecast as final.
Common Nintendo ticker and dividend mistakes
- Calling NTDOY the Tokyo ticker. 7974 is the Tokyo stock code; NTDOY is a separate OTC ADR.
- Ignoring the receipt ratio. One ordinary share corresponds to four DRs in Citi’s current program details.
- Using Tokyo hours for the ADR. JPX’s sessions apply to domestic shares, not automatically to OTC trading.
- Confusing a forecast with a payment. The 162-yen FY2027 figure is displayed as an annual forecast, while the interim and year-end amounts remain not yet determined on the cited page.
- Assuming the dividend formula never changes. Nintendo’s May 2026 notice describes a revised policy and distinguishes it from earlier and interim rules.
- Assuming every broker offers both instruments. The cited sources do not establish universal access, pricing, execution or tax treatment.
