LayerX Raises $11 Million in Series A Extension for Browser Security

LayerX announced an additional $11 million in Series A funding on April 28, 2025. The extension followed an earlier $26 million Series A and brought the company’s reported total funding to $45 million. Jump Capital led the extension, with existing investors Glilot Capital Partners and Dell Technologies Capital participating.

What LayerX announced

The April 28, 2025 announcement described the new money as an extension of LayerX’s Series A, not as a separate financing round. The company said the extension raised its total funding to $45 million. SecurityWeek independently reported the same financing details on April 29, 2025.

What LayerX’s browser security product does

LayerX describes its product as a lightweight enterprise-security platform delivered through a browser extension. Rather than requiring employees to switch to a separate, dedicated browser, the software is designed to add enterprise controls to browsers an organization already uses. The company says it can integrate with Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari.

The stated protection areas include GenAI tools, SaaS applications, browser extensions, web and SaaS data leakage, and other web threats. In practical terms, the product is intended to give an organization visibility into browser activity and a way to apply security policies to web-based work and data movement. The announcement does not provide independently measured effectiveness or specific performance results.

This is software, not a physical security appliance. LayerX’s chief executive framed the financing as support for its browser-native approach, saying: “This new raise allows us to double down on what’s working: winning head-to-head against legacy approaches with modern, browser-native security.”

Why the browser is a security control point

For many organizations, the browser is where employees reach SaaS services, use AI tools, handle company data, and install or interact with extensions. LayerX’s positioning rests on bringing policy and visibility to that activity while allowing employees to keep using familiar browsers. That deployment model may appeal to companies seeking browser-level controls without replacing their existing browser setup.

An extension-based layer is not automatically equivalent to every capability offered by a dedicated enterprise browser or another secure-web product. A buyer would need to assess browser coverage, GenAI and SaaS policy controls, extension governance, data-loss prevention, identity and session visibility, effects on user experience, and integration with existing security tools. The funding announcement does not establish how LayerX compares with competitors on those measures.

What the financing means—and does not mean

The round signals investor financing for LayerX’s browser-security business; it is not evidence that the product has achieved a particular level of adoption, revenue, or security performance. The announcement names the lead and participating investors but does not state how the proceeds will be allocated or provide financial terms beyond the amount raised.

For personal-finance readers, the $11 million is company funding, not a consumer investment offer or a measure of expected returns. The announcement does not disclose a public ticker, valuation, or a way for individual investors to buy shares.

A later acquisition announcement

A later Akamai newsroom announcement said Akamai had agreed to acquire LayerX for approximately $205 million. Akamai characterized LayerX as a platform that adds protections to enterprises’ existing browsers and said the combined solution was intended to govern and secure workforce interactions with AI applications. The retrieved announcement does not establish the agreement’s completion or give its announcement date, so the $205 million figure should be understood as the stated value of an acquisition agreement—not confirmation of a completed transaction or LayerX’s present ownership.
