Jony Ive’s LoveFrom creative collective launched its official website, LoveFrom.com, on October 11, 2021—nearly two years after Ive left Apple and established the group with Marc Newson. Rather than publish a conventional portfolio, client list, or contact page, LoveFrom used the launch to present a sparse visual identity and a short statement of its creative philosophy.
A public debut after Apple
LoveFrom was formed in 2019 following Ive’s departure from Apple, where he had been the company’s chief design officer and one of the most influential figures in its modern design history. Marc Newson, Ive’s longtime creative collaborator, was involved in establishing the collective.

The group remained deliberately quiet during its first years. Contemporary reports associated LoveFrom with work involving Apple, Airbnb, and Ferrari, but the collective did not initially offer the public a detailed account of its structure or projects. The official website therefore marked the public debut of LoveFrom’s own identity—not the launch of the company itself.

At launch, visitors reportedly encountered a blinking text cursor, followed by the LoveFrom name appearing as if it were being typed. The page then presented the wordmark and a short manifesto. Contemporary coverage reported no images, conventional navigation, portfolio pages, client roster, or contact details.

LoveFrom described itself as a collective bringing together “designers, architects, musicians, filmmakers, writers, engineers, and artists.” Its statement emphasized collaboration with leaders and founders, work undertaken for enjoyment, and the pursuit of craft, curiosity, and excellence.
That made the site less a client-acquisition funnel than a piece of brand design. Its minimalism was the message: LoveFrom wanted to establish a recognizable point of view without turning itself into a publicly documented agency.
The identity behind the launch
The identity was shaped by Ive, members of the LoveFrom network, and collaborators including English art director and graphic designer Peter Saville. Contemporary reports also identified Chris Wilson and Antonio Cavedoni—both former Apple design-team members—as contributors.

Saville described the punctuation as suggesting the beginning of a dialogue or shared conversation. That is Saville’s interpretation of the mark, rather than a technical function of the logo, but it neatly matched LoveFrom’s emphasis on collaboration.
LoveFrom Serif and the Baskerville connection
The website’s manifesto and wordmark used a bespoke typeface called LoveFrom Serif. According to Wallpaper*, the typeface was inspired by the letterforms of John Baskerville.
LoveFrom’s designers reportedly studied Baskerville’s original punches and matrices, then redrew and refined the characters over roughly two years. Wallpaper* described the resulting family as having multiple weights and optical sizes.

LoveFrom Serif was therefore not simply the original Baskerville typeface. It was a new design informed by historical research—a choice that communicated the collective’s interest in craftsmanship, detail, and bespoke systems rather than off-the-shelf branding.

The website made several aspects of LoveFrom clear. It presented the group as multidisciplinary rather than limited to industrial design, and it positioned the collective as a partner for ambitious founders and leaders. It also made its own identity feel like part of the work.
But the launch left important practical questions unanswered. It did not establish:

- 10,000+ brand new, royalty-free, commercial-use images
- An all new sleek and modern user interface for improved usability
- Powerful new text-handling capabilities, and new photo fonts, paint brushes and styles
- New address book and mailing features
- Master project page for multi-page projects and new right-click snap to guideline, center and edge options!
- LoveFrom’s exact staff size or full organizational structure;
- a complete list of clients;
- a portfolio of completed projects;
- pricing, service packages, or a public contact process; or
- which post-Apple projects had been completed by LoveFrom and when.
Reports indicated that Ive had recruited former Apple colleagues, but the launch site did not publish a definitive employee roster. Similarly, Apple was expected to remain a client, although the scope and timing of post-departure work were not fully clear in the contemporaneous coverage.

The absence of information created a clear trade-off. On one hand, the site reinforced LoveFrom’s exclusivity and made the launch memorable. It aligned the collective with Ive’s reputation for carefully controlled, highly considered design and suggested that the firm would work selectively rather than compete as an open-market agency.
On the other hand, a prospective client could learn little about LoveFrom’s capabilities from the page itself. There were no case studies to evaluate, no list of services to compare, and no obvious route for making an inquiry. The site communicated positioning more effectively than process.

That tension is what made the website newsworthy. LoveFrom was not merely displaying a logo; it was demonstrating a philosophy in the way it chose to introduce itself.
Later context
Subsequent LoveFrom work should not be confused with the October 2021 website launch. In 2025, OpenAI announced that Ive and LoveFrom would remain independent while taking on significant design and creative responsibilities related to OpenAI. That later relationship provides context for LoveFrom’s continuing development, but it was not part of the original website announcement. See OpenAI’s official statement for that later announcement.
The lasting significance of LoveFrom’s first website
LoveFrom’s official website launched on October 11, 2021, but its main product was not information. It was positioning. Nearly two years after the collective’s formation, Ive and his collaborators made LoveFrom visible while preserving the restraint, privacy, and sense of selectivity associated with the group.

For readers looking for a conventional design-agency homepage, the site offered very little. For anyone interested in how a high-profile creative organization defines itself, that lack of conventional content was the central story.
