HackNotice announced a $7 million Series A in June 2022, led by Strategic Cyber Ventures, with Lytical Ventures participating. The company said it would use the funding to expand its team and distribute its threat-awareness platform.

What is HackNotice?

HackNotice is an enterprise cybersecurity software company. Its earlier threat-awareness offering connected information about security threats to individual employees, then gave them protective steps. That approach is intended to make alerts relevant to the people affected rather than relying only on periodic, general security training.

HackNotice’s product page describes security-awareness training and assessments, individualized employee notifications, real-time monitoring, phishing testing, and requests to delete compromised personal data. The company’s current positioning also emphasizes pre-breach adversary intelligence for identity and third-party security, including monitoring ransomware leak sites, underground forums, breach datasets, infostealer logs, criminal marketplaces, and threat-actor activity.

SecurityWeek’s funding report and Help Net Security’s coverage reported the round and investors.

How the threat-awareness model works

HackNotice describes a process that links newly identified exposed data or other threat intelligence to an employee who may be affected. That can turn an abstract warning into a targeted notification and a suggested response. SecurityWeek reported that alerts could be generated within minutes to a few hours after exposed information entered HackNotice’s index; this is a company-reported description, not a service-level guarantee.

CEO and co-founder Steve Thomas told SecurityWeek: “From the beginning, we had the view that hackers hack through people. We need to make every employee aware of how they’re being targeted while they’re being threatened, and then help them protect themselves.” He also described the data pipeline as ingesting “hundreds of gigabytes of dark data daily”; that figure is the company’s characterization.

How threat awareness differs from conventional security training

Conventional security-awareness programs often use scheduled lessons and broad assessments. HackNotice’s stated distinction is to pair ongoing threat monitoring with personalized, event-linked employee alerts. Its product offering also includes training and phishing tests, so the distinction is not that it replaces every training feature; rather, it adds intelligence and protective guidance tied to specific exposures.

Strategic Cyber Ventures principal Chris Ahern told Help Net Security that traditional training and awareness had “questionable ROI,” and described HackNotice as providing employee-focused threat intelligence. That is an investor’s view of the company’s approach, not independent evidence of measured outcomes.

Company background

Wellfound lists HackNotice as founded in 2018 and based in Austin, identifies Steve Thomas as CEO and co-founder, and shows 11–50 employees and $7 million in total funding. The employee count is third-party profile information, not an audited company disclosure. The $7 million total-funding figure on that profile corresponds to the announced Series A in the available reporting.

For a personal-finance reader, the key distinction is that HackNotice is not a consumer product or investment opportunity described by the funding announcement. It is enterprise cybersecurity software, and the announcement concerns company financing rather than a product launch or a change in consumer prices.
