No—not according to Google’s launch announcement. Google AI Plus was announced on January 27, 2026, with 200 GB of Google One storage, family sharing and access to Gemini 3 Pro. Gemini 2.5 Pro was promoted separately through higher Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra tiers. The plan has since changed: the U.S. subscription page checked August 18, 2026 listed AI Plus at $4.99 a month with 400 GB, so the original $7.99 and 200 GB figures are historical rather than current specifications.
What Google announced on January 27, 2026
Google introduced AI Plus as a lower-cost Google AI subscription in the United States and 34 other countries and territories—35 new markets in total. The launch announcement described a bundle of consumer AI tools and Google One storage, not a dedicated Gemini 2.5 Pro plan.

- 200 GB shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos
- Access to Gemini features, including Gemini 3 Pro as named in the announcement
- Google Flow filmmaking tools
- NotebookLM research and writing features
- Family sharing for up to five additional members, subject to Google family-group rules
The U.S. launch price was $7.99 per month. New subscribers were offered 50% off for their first two months as a limited-time promotion; prices in other countries could differ. Google’s announcement is the primary record of those launch terms: Google AI Plus availability announcement.

The evidence does not support that claim as a launch fact. Google’s January 2026 AI Plus post names Gemini 3 Pro, not Gemini 2.5 Pro. A headline that says AI Plus included Gemini 2.5 Pro is therefore likely combining two separate Google announcements or confusing AI Plus with AI Pro.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
“Access” also never means unlimited use. Google plans can apply daily or rolling limits, product-specific quotas, regional restrictions and model substitutions after a limit is reached. Gemini app, Search, Flow, NotebookLM and developer products can each have different availability and limits.
Where Gemini 2.5 Pro actually appeared
March 25, 2025: experimental thinking model
Google introduced Gemini 2.5 as a “thinking” model family for difficult reasoning, mathematics, science, coding and long-context work. Gemini 2.5 Pro began as an experimental release and was made available through products including the Gemini app, Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. See Google DeepMind’s announcement: Gemini model thinking updates.

June 17, 2025: stable model family
Google subsequently announced stable versions of Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash. That general-availability milestone was separate from the later AI Plus launch: Gemini 2.5 model family expansion.
July 2025: Search access tied to Pro and Ultra
Google’s Search announcement associated Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search with Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra in the U.S. rollout—not with AI Plus: Google Search announcement.
AI Plus launch terms versus the later U.S. page
| Item | January 27, 2026 launch | Page checked August 18, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| U.S. price | $7.99 per month, with 50% off for the first two months for new subscribers | $4.99 per month |
| Storage | 200 GB | 400 GB |
| Model named for AI Plus | Gemini 3 Pro | Newer models and features listed; lineup is subject to change |
| Family sharing | Up to five additional family members | Check the live plan terms for current sharing conditions |
| Availability | 35 newly announced countries and territories, including the U.S. | Subscription page listed availability in more than 160 countries and territories |
The current figures come from Google’s U.S. subscription page, not from the 2026 launch post: Google Gemini subscriptions. Google also maintains a broader plans page at Google One AI plans. Prices, storage, model names and quotas are volatile, so verify the checkout page for your country before subscribing.
AI Plus or AI Pro?
| Choose | Best suited to | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| AI Plus | Casual Gemini users, families and people who need Google storage | Lower price, less storage than higher tiers, selected premium tools and lower usage limits |
| AI Pro | Frequent Gemini users, researchers, developers and heavy Google-workspace users | Higher limits, more advanced access and more storage; Google’s 2025 Search rollout tied Gemini 2.5 Pro and Deep Search to this tier and AI Ultra |
| AI Ultra | Heavy AI users and advanced creators | Highest-tier access and limits; current price and feature set should be checked live |
Do not treat these tiers as permanent specifications. Google can rename plans, replace models or change quotas without preserving the launch lineup.

Who is likely to benefit from AI Plus?
Good fit
- You already pay for Drive, Gmail or Photos storage and will use the included AI tools.
- Your household can use family sharing within Google’s country and account requirements.
- You want occasional Gemini assistance without paying for a Pro tier.
- You value Google-native features such as NotebookLM, Flow, Gmail and Photos integration.
Look elsewhere when
- You specifically require Gemini 2.5 Pro-era access, high-volume coding or advanced Search features.
- You need the highest usage limits or developer-scale API access.
- You only need storage; compare a storage-only plan at Google One plans.
- You use a work-managed Google Workspace account, whose benefits may differ from a personal Google Account.
- You are outside the U.S. and assume U.S. pricing or availability.
Family sharing and account caveats
At launch, AI Plus benefits could be shared with up to five other family members. Sharing is governed by Google family-group rules, including country and account eligibility. Storage sharing and access to every AI feature are related but are not necessarily identical in each product. Existing Premium 2 TB subscribers were described as receiving AI Plus benefits automatically only in the newly covered markets; that was not a worldwide upgrade promise.

AI Plus is a consumer subscription with household storage and app features. It does not automatically include developer-scale Gemini API usage. Developers should evaluate Google AI Studio at aistudio.google.com and the Vertex AI Gemini documentation at cloud.google.com/vertex-ai/generative-ai/docs/model-reference/gemini. Gemini 2.5 Pro API availability and billing were announced separately from consumer plan benefits.

- Pixel’s Adaptive Battery can last over 24 hours; when Extreme Battery Saver is turned on, it can last up to 72 hours[3]
- The 6.3-inch Pixel 7 display is super sharp, with rich, vivid colors; it’s fast and responsive for smoother gaming, scrolling, and moving between apps[4]
- Google Pixel 7 has wide and ultrawide lenses with up to 8x Super Res Zoom[5]; and Cinematic Blur brings more drama to your videos
Bottom line
Google AI Plus is best understood as an affordable storage-and-AI bundle, not as a Gemini 2.5 Pro subscription. The authentic January 2026 launch terms were 200 GB and $7.99 per month in the U.S., with Gemini 3 Pro named in the offer. The U.S. page checked August 18, 2026 instead showed $4.99 and 400 GB. If Gemini 2.5 Pro is your specific requirement, use dated AI Pro or AI Ultra documentation and confirm the current model, region and quota before paying.
