Finastra began notifying affected people in February 2025 after an unauthorized party accessed its internally hosted Secure File Transfer Platform and exfiltrated certain files in late 2024. The available breach notice identifies names and financial-account information as the exposed data categories. Finastra offered eligible recipients two years of Experian credit monitoring and identity-protection services.
This is a 2025 notification development involving a 2024 incident—not a newly discovered breach in 2026.

Finastra breach at a glance
- Unauthorized-access period: October 31 through November 8, 2024, according to the notification letter.
- Detection date: November 7, 2024.
- Affected system: An internally hosted Secure File Transfer Platform used to send files to certain customers.
- Data identified in the public notice: Names and financial-account information.
- Consumer assistance: Two years of Experian credit monitoring and identity-protection or identity-restoration services for eligible recipients.
- Publicly reported counts: At least 65 Massachusetts residents were initially identified; an Indiana filing later listed 2,233 total affected individuals.
The 2,233 figure comes from an Indiana attorney general breach report and should not automatically be treated as Finastra’s final worldwide total.

Finastra’s security operations center detected suspicious activity on November 7, 2024. The company said the activity involved its internally hosted Secure File Transfer Platform, or SFTP platform, rather than its entire customer environment.

According to the Massachusetts notification letter, an unauthorized party accessed the platform multiple times between October 31 and November 8 and exfiltrated certain files. Finastra characterized the incident as limited to that platform, with no lateral movement beyond it.
Contemporaneous reporting also said Finastra described the event as not involving ransomware and said no malware was deployed on its systems. Those statements do not establish that every file on the platform was taken or that Finastra’s broader customer database was compromised.
When were people notified?
| Date | Development |
|---|---|
| October 31, 2024 | Start of the unauthorized-access period stated in the notification letter. |
| November 7, 2024 | Finastra detected suspicious activity. |
| November 8, 2024 | End of the access and exfiltration period stated in the notice. |
| February 12, 2025 | Massachusetts notice date; Indiana’s report lists this as the notification date for Finastra. |
| February 17–18, 2025 | BleepingComputer and SecurityWeek reported that notices had begun going out. |
| August 2025 reporting period | Indiana’s year-to-date report listed one Indiana resident and 2,233 total affected individuals. |
The delay between the November incident and February notifications does not, by itself, establish that Finastra violated the law. Organizations commonly need time to determine which files were accessed and whose information was involved, while notification requirements vary by jurisdiction and circumstances.

How many people were affected?
The public figures come from different sources and should not be conflated. SecurityWeek reported that at least 65 Massachusetts residents were being notified. The Indiana attorney general’s 2025 breach report, on page 9, listed one Indiana resident and 2,233 total affected individuals for Finastra Technology Inc.
The available reporting does not establish whether 2,233 was a final nationwide count, whether it included every jurisdiction, or whether later filings changed the number. It is best described as a reported filing figure, not a confirmed global total.
What information was exposed?
The available notification materials identify:
- Names
- Financial-account information
They do not establish that Social Security numbers, passwords, payment-card numbers, medical records, or authentication credentials were exposed for every recipient. “Financial-account information” is also broad and does not necessarily mean online-banking passwords or card numbers.

What did Finastra offer?
Finastra offered eligible affected individuals two years of free credit monitoring and identity-protection or identity-restoration services through Experian. The offer was not necessarily available to every Finastra customer; eligibility should be confirmed in the official notification letter.
Use the enrollment instructions, activation code, and deadline in that letter. Do not substitute a generic paid Experian page for the Finastra-specific enrollment process.

What Finastra says about the risk
Finastra reportedly said it had no indication that the unauthorized party further copied, retained, or shared the information, and no reason to suspect that it had been or would be misused. The company considered the risk to individuals low.
That is Finastra’s assessment, not a guarantee that misuse cannot occur. Credit monitoring can help identify certain warning signs, but it does not prevent fraud or retrieve information that has already been exfiltrated.

Contemporaneous reporting linked the incident to a now-deleted BreachForums post from a threat actor using the name “abyss0.” The actor allegedly claimed to be selling approximately 400 GB of data stolen from Finastra.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.

That claim was not independently confirmed by Finastra in the cited coverage. Do not treat the 400 GB figure as an established amount of stolen data. There is also no confirmed evidence in the available sources that Finastra paid a ransom or negotiated the deletion of the data.
If you received a Finastra notice
- Verify the notice. Avoid clicking unexpected email links. Contact Finastra or Experian using independently verified contact details if anything seems unusual.
- Read the data description. Confirm exactly which information the notice says was involved.
- Enroll before the stated deadline. Use the Experian instructions and code in your letter.
- Review financial accounts. Watch bank and other financial accounts for unfamiliar transactions, account changes, or communications.
- Consider a fraud alert or credit freeze. A fraud alert asks creditors to take additional steps before opening credit. A freeze restricts access to your credit file and can better prevent new-account fraud, but you must temporarily lift it when applying for legitimate credit.
- Watch for phishing. Never provide passwords, one-time codes, banking credentials, or payment information to someone claiming to activate protection. Be suspicious of requests to install software or pay an activation fee.
- Use free official resources if needed. Report suspected identity theft at IdentityTheft.gov and obtain credit reports through AnnualCreditReport.com.
A credit freeze is particularly relevant when highly sensitive identity information has been exposed. The publicly available Finastra materials confirm names and financial-account information, but do not establish that Social Security numbers were exposed for every recipient. Base the decision on your letter and your personal circumstances.
Quick Recap
What remains unknown?

- The complete inventory of files accessed or exfiltrated.
- Whether the alleged 400 GB forum claim was accurate.
- Whether stolen information was retained, shared, or misused.
- Whether all jurisdictions reported the same total or later revised their figures.
