SecurityWeek counted 37 cybersecurity-related mergers, acquisitions and other M&A announcements in October 2024. The roundup included 11 highlighted transactions and 26 additional deals. Four highlighted deals had disclosed values: Sophos–Secureworks at $859 million, Experian–ClearSale at $350 million, Cyera–Trail Security at $162 million, and Socure–Effectiv at $136 million. These are announced transaction values, not a complete measure of the month’s M&A market or proof that each deal closed.
The list spans more than cybersecurity software: it includes identity and fraud businesses, managed service providers, consultants, cloud and infrastructure firms, and defense-related companies. The common thread is that buyers were adding security capabilities, services or customer access to broader platforms.

What SecurityWeek’s 37-deal count means
The figure is SecurityWeek’s count of cybersecurity-related M&A deals announced during October 2024, in a roundup published November 5, 2024. It is not a count of transactions that necessarily closed that month, nor a census of every deal in the global market. The tracker’s scope includes cybersecurity products and services as well as adjacent identity, fraud prevention, managed IT, consulting, cloud, defense and infrastructure businesses. SecurityWeek called its first 11 entries the month’s “most important” deals; that is not a ranking of all 37 by value. See SecurityWeek’s October 2024 roundup.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTransaction wording matters. The list records announcements and agreements, not a uniform set of completed purchases. For example, Sophos announced a proposed acquisition of Secureworks, while Proofpoint announced an intended acquisition of Normalyze. The October roundup alone does not establish the later closing status of every transaction.

October’s largest disclosed transaction values
Only four values were reported among the highlighted deals. Their announced values add up to $1.507 billion, a simple subtotal for those four transactions only; it excludes the other deals, whose terms were not disclosed in the roundup, and should not be read as October’s total M&A value.
| Buyer and target | Announced value | What the buyer was adding |
|---|---|---|
| Sophos–Secureworks | $859 million, all cash | Secureworks’ Taegis XDR platform alongside Sophos’ managed detection and response services. |
| Experian–ClearSale | $350 million, agreed value | Brazilian identity and fraud-prevention capabilities. |
| Cyera–Trail Security | $162 million in cash and stock | Data-loss prevention technology to complement Cyera’s data-security posture management platform. |
| Socure–Effectiv | $136 million | Digital identity verification, fraud detection and risk decisioning. |
The values are as reported in SecurityWeek’s roundup. They are announced figures, not necessarily final purchase prices or enterprise values; the terms may differ in structure and comparability.
The 11 highlighted transactions
SecurityWeek’s highlighted group shows buyers extending platforms into adjacent capabilities, services and markets. Where the roundup does not give a price, the table says so rather than implying that no consideration was paid.

| Marlink → Port-IT | Maritime cybersecurity services, with a dedicated cybersecurity unit alongside previously acquired Diverto. | Terms not disclosed. |
| Netskope → Dasera | Data-security posture management added to Netskope’s data-protection portfolio. | Terms not disclosed in the roundup. |
| Proofpoint → Normalyze | Data-security posture management technology for Proofpoint’s enterprise cybersecurity platform. | Value not stated; announced as an intended acquisition under a definitive agreement. |
| Socure → Effectiv | Digital identity verification, fraud detection and risk decisioning. | $136 million reported; described as an acquisition. |
| Sophos → Secureworks | Combining Taegis XDR with Sophos MDR services for small and midsize businesses, midmarket and enterprise customers. | $859 million, all cash; announced as a proposed acquisition. |
Two first-party announcements give more detail on platform strategy. Cloudflare said Kivera would bring preventive controls into cloud deployment workflows and broaden Cloudflare One; financial terms were not disclosed in its October 8 announcement. Cyera described Trail’s DLP technology as an extension of its data-security platform; its October 17 announcement reported $162 million in cash and stock. These are the companies’ stated rationales, not independent evidence of post-deal results.

The other 26 deals tracked in October
SecurityWeek listed these additional transactions without the same level of detail as the highlighted group. Its roundup does not provide comparable prices, dates, status or rationale for each entry, so the table preserves the reported buyer–target pairings without implying more than is established.

What the deal mix suggests about cybersecurity strategy
The patterns below are analysis of the deal descriptions, not a formal classification published by SecurityWeek. Some targets fit more than one category.
Rank #4
Data security is converging across DSPM and DLP
Cyera–Trail, Netskope–Dasera and Proofpoint–Normalyze point to buyers adding visibility into where sensitive data resides and controls over how it moves. The additional deals for Parablu and Assured Data Protection also sit near data protection and recovery. For a platform vendor, bringing these functions together can address a wider part of the data-security problem than a standalone tool, although acquisitions alone do not show how tightly products will be integrated.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Detection products are being paired with response services
Sophos–Secureworks and Logpoint–Muninn illustrate different combinations of detection technology and broader security operations. Sophos’ announced rationale centered on pairing Taegis XDR with its MDR services; Logpoint was adding network detection and response to a SIEM-centered platform. The strategic direction is toward connecting telemetry, detection and operational response rather than treating each as an isolated product.
Best Value
Identity and fraud protection cross traditional security boundaries
Experian–ClearSale and Socure–Effectiv target identity verification, fraud detection and risk decisions. These capabilities address abuse and trust risks that overlap with cybersecurity but also serve financial services, commerce and customer onboarding. EY US–Dignari adds identity and access-management consulting and technology, including government work.
Services and MSP deals continue a consolidation pattern
Smartdesc, 360IT Partners, dpe Systems, Harbor Networks, Digital Security and PlanNet21 Group appear among the additional transactions. The breadth of service-provider deals suggests a continuing opportunity to combine customer relationships, delivery capacity and security offerings in a fragmented services market. The roundup does not disclose enough detail to quantify the scale or financial rationale of those specific acquisitions.
Specialized infrastructure, maritime and government capabilities matter
Dragos–Network Perception, Marlink–Port-IT and the inclusion of targets such as Dionach and Nicos AG broaden the month’s activity beyond conventional enterprise software. The government and defense-related names in the additional list—including Applied Insight, Azimuth Corporation, Xpect Solutions, OffSec, Amiosec and Bridge Security Advisors—also show how cyber expertise can be acquired through businesses serving public-sector and critical-infrastructure markets.

On SecurityWeek’s own tracker, October’s 37 announcements matched its September 2024 count. The publication reported 49 deals in November 2024, which it described as a record month for that year. It also reported 178 cybersecurity M&A deals for the first half of 2024, calling that the least busy first half since it began tracking in 2021. These are not directly interchangeable measures: October and September are single months, November is another single month, and 178 covers six months. The figures reflect one publication’s tracking methodology, not a standardized market database. SecurityWeek’s acquisitions archive provides the nearby monthly roundups, including November’s 49-deal report.
Quick Recap
How to read the roundup as an investor or market researcher
- Separate announcement from completion. A proposed or agreed transaction may still face conditions; do not treat a monthly announcement count as a count of closed deals.
- Compare disclosed values cautiously. The four reported values may differ in consideration structure and may not represent enterprise value or final cash paid.
- Do not equate deal count with market value. The additional 26 entries have no comparable valuation data in this roundup.
- Read strategic rationale as intent. Buyer statements explain why a company says it is making a deal, not whether integration or expected benefits later succeeded.
- Recognize the tracker’s broad perimeter. Identity, fraud, MSP, consulting, cloud, defense and infrastructure businesses may be relevant to cybersecurity without being pure-play security vendors.
