How to read the list
- Announcement date: The deals below were announced in June 2024. The roundup does not establish that every transaction closed that month.
- Transaction type: “Acquisition” is used where the source presents a buyer acquiring a target; “planned acquisition” identifies an agreement that had not necessarily closed; “merger” identifies a combination; and “co-controlling stake” is not the same as a full acquisition.
- Deal value: The supplied roundup does not disclose transaction values for these 29 deals. Earlier private-company valuations, including Lacework’s previous valuation above $1 billion, must not be treated as purchase prices.
- Market definition: “Cybersecurity-related” includes adjacent privacy, compliance, identity-verification, managed-services and IT-services businesses.
The transactions that drew the most attention
Fortinet and Lacework: cloud-security consolidation
Fortinet agreed to acquire Lacework, a late-stage cloud-security company whose technology was deployed at approximately 1,000 customers, according to SecurityWeek. The transaction was strategically important because it placed cloud security inside a much larger security platform.
The deal illustrates why established vendors may buy rather than build in a crowded cloud-security market. An acquisition can provide technology, customers and specialist talent more quickly than developing a competing portfolio internally. It can also create integration risk: overlapping products, changes to roadmaps, altered licensing and uncertainty over how customers will be migrated or supported.
Lacework had previously been valued above $1 billion, but that historical valuation was not the disclosed price of Fortinet’s June 2024 agreement. The transaction value was undisclosed in the roundup.

Everfox agreed to acquire Garrison Technology, a transaction focused on specialized security for high-assurance environments. Garrison’s technology was associated with cross-domain security, hardware-enforced protection and use cases involving threat protection and insider risk.
This is different from a typical enterprise SaaS acquisition. Cross-domain and government-oriented security products often serve environments where isolation, controlled information flows and assurance requirements are central buying criteria. The strategic value therefore lies not only in recurring software revenue but also in specialized technology and expertise that may be difficult to reproduce quickly.
Finite State and MergeBase: combining binary and source-code analysis
Finite State acquired MergeBase, bringing together Finite State’s binary-analysis capabilities and MergeBase’s source-code analysis. The combination broadened the software-supply-chain security proposition across different stages of development and software inspection.

Fenmzee team design all our products in house, using only the selected materials to ensure they not only look good in your home, but will last for years to come.
Binary analysis examines compiled software and firmware, while source-code analysis works closer to the code-development process. Together, these capabilities can give security teams wider visibility into software composition and supply-chain risk, although the practical benefit depends on how well the products integrate with developer workflows, build systems and remediation processes.
Tenable and Eureka Security: data-security posture management
Tenable agreed to acquire Eureka Security, expanding its capabilities in data-security posture management, or DSPM. DSPM tools generally help organizations discover sensitive data, understand where it resides and assess security posture across data stores and cloud environments.
The agreement reflects competition to assemble broader exposure-management platforms. It should not, however, be described as immediate product integration or customer availability. An announced acquisition may still require closing, organizational integration and roadmap decisions.
NetSPI and Hubble Technology: from asset inventory to exposure management
NetSPI acquired Hubble Technology, adding cyber asset attack-surface-management and cyber asset attack-surface-management-related capabilities to NetSPI’s platform.
The transaction sits at the intersection of external attack-surface management, internal asset inventory, exposure management and security posture management. Buyers increasingly want to connect the question “What assets do we have?” with “Which assets are exposed?” and “Which weaknesses deserve remediation first?” Acquisitions can help vendors assemble those capabilities, but the customer outcome depends on whether data models, prioritization and workflows actually work together.

- Note: If your remote control isn't working, for a free replacement—no return needed.
The structure is important: this was described as a merger rather than a straightforward buyer purchasing a target. Strategically, it reflects the convergence of identity controls that are often bought separately—governance, privileged access, entitlement review and broader identity-security services.
JFrog and Qwak AI: securing AI-model workflows
JFrog acquired Qwak AI. SecurityWeek described Qwak’s role around moving AI models from development into production securely.
The deal connects software-artifact management with machine-learning operations. As organizations operationalize AI models, they need controls around model versions, artifacts, deployment pipelines and the environments in which models run. The acquisition suggests that software-supply-chain thinking is expanding beyond conventional application code into AI development and production workflows.
Mozilla and Anonym: privacy technology beyond traditional cyber defense
Mozilla acquired Anonym, a company focused on privacy-preserving digital advertising. Mozilla said it intended to combine Anonym’s technology with its scale and trusted reputation.
This is an important boundary case. Privacy-preserving advertising is not the same category as endpoint, network or cloud defense, but it concerns data protection, identity and the controlled use of personal information. Its inclusion shows how broadly the roundup defines cybersecurity-related activity.
Formstack and Open Raven: data security in business software
Formstack acquired Open Raven. The transaction is another example of security functionality being added to a broader business-software portfolio. Open Raven was associated with data security, while Formstack provides business workflow and productivity software.

What the June deals reveal about the market
Cloud security was a central consolidation target
Fortinet–Lacework was the clearest example. Large platform vendors can use acquisitions to add cloud-security capabilities, customer relationships and specialist expertise. For buyers, the attraction is a more unified portfolio; for customers, the trade-off may be greater vendor concentration and less independence between formerly separate products.
Software-supply-chain security is expanding into AI
Finite State–MergeBase joined binary and source-code analysis. JFrog–Qwak AI extended the software-delivery discussion into AI-model development and production. Together, the deals point toward security controls that cover code, dependencies, binaries, models and deployment pipelines rather than a single application-security checkpoint.
Identity remains a consolidation zone
MajorKey–Clango combined identity-security, privileged-access and identity-governance capabilities. Incode–MetaMap added an identity-verification transaction to the broader list. These are related but not interchangeable markets: workforce identity, privileged access, governance and customer identity verification solve different problems. Grouping them together without qualification can obscure what a buyer actually acquired.
Recommended Free Tools
Exposure management connects assets, data and risk
Tenable–Eureka and NetSPI–Hubble fit a broader movement toward connecting asset discovery, data visibility, posture assessment and remediation. The strategic promise is a more complete view of exposure. The integration challenge is making disparate inventories and risk scores useful to the same security and IT teams.

Services transactions made up a substantial part of the count
Several additional deals involved managed security, managed IT, digital investigations, compliance or specialized professional services. These transactions may reflect regional expansion, capability acquisition or a services roll-up rather than consolidation among venture-backed software companies. Their inclusion is one reason the 29-deal figure should not be compared directly with a narrower count of pure-play cybersecurity product acquisitions.
Privacy and identity verification broadened the definition of security
Mozilla–Anonym and Incode–MetaMap demonstrate that privacy, data use and identity assurance can sit alongside conventional cyber-defense transactions. Whether a particular deal belongs in a cybersecurity dataset depends on the dataset’s definition; SecurityWeek used a broad “cybersecurity-related” approach.
Why announcement status matters
An announced agreement is not automatically a completed acquisition. A definitive agreement may still require regulatory approval, shareholder approval, financing, customary closing conditions or other steps. A merger may involve a different governance structure, and a co-controlling investment does not make the target wholly owned.
For historical M&A analysis, the safest wording is therefore “announced in June 2024,” “agreed to acquire,” “planned acquisition,” “merged” or “acquired,” matching the source’s description. Readers should not infer closing date, purchase price or product integration from the June announcement alone.
What customers and investors should watch after a security acquisition
- Product overlap: Determine whether the buyer already sells a competing tool and whether one product may eventually be retired.
- Roadmap and integration: Ask when shared identity, data, telemetry, APIs or management consoles will actually be available.
- Licensing and support: Review renewal terms, contracting entities, service-level commitments and any changes to packaging or pricing.
- Data handling: Check whether ownership changes affect data residency, subprocessors, retention or customer-contract language.
- Staff and expertise: A transaction’s value can depend heavily on retaining the technical and services teams behind the product.
- Vendor concentration: A broader platform may simplify procurement but increase dependence on one provider.
- Closing risk: Until a transaction closes, the announced buyer may not control the target or its product roadmap.
Bottom line
SecurityWeek’s 29-deal June 2024 tally shows consolidation across core cybersecurity software and adjacent markets. Fortinet–Lacework stood out in cloud security; Finite State–MergeBase and JFrog–Qwak AI highlighted software and AI supply chains; MajorKey–Clango underscored identity consolidation; and Tenable–Eureka and NetSPI–Hubble pointed toward broader exposure management.
The most accurate interpretation is not that 29 equal-sized cybersecurity companies changed hands. It is that buyers were assembling wider security, privacy, compliance, identity and managed-services portfolios through a mixture of acquisitions, planned agreements, mergers and one co-controlling investment.
