A useful reporting system does more than display revenue. It explains whether sales are profitable, which products and customers are driving results, where the purchase funnel is failing, whether inventory can support demand, and which action deserves attention next.
The most reliable approach is to use each system for what it measures best: the commerce platform for orders and store operations, analytics software for customer behavior, advertising platforms for their own campaign delivery, and accounting or finance systems for recognized revenue, costs, profit, and cash. No single dashboard is automatically the source of truth for every metric.

What e-commerce reporting actually means
E-commerce reporting is the structured collection, calculation, visualization, and distribution of online-store data. In practical terms, it turns raw transactions and events into recurring answers to business questions such as:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Are sales growing profitably?
- Which products, channels, and campaigns deserve more investment?
- Where are shoppers abandoning the buying process?
- Which customers are likely to purchase again?
- Can the business fulfill demand without tying up too much cash in inventory?
- Do the store, advertising, payment, and accounting numbers reconcile?
Every recurring report should have a decision attached to it. If nobody knows what action a number might trigger, the report is probably collecting information rather than managing the business.

Metric, KPI, dimension, report, dashboard, exploration, and warehouse
- Metric: A measurable value, such as orders, net sales, sessions, refunds, or advertising spend.
- KPI: A metric selected because it indicates progress toward an important business objective, such as contribution margin or new-customer acquisition cost.
- Dimension: A way to segment data, such as date, product, SKU, campaign, customer type, device, country, or sales channel.
- Report: A structured view answering a defined question, often for a particular team or cadence.
- Dashboard: A collection of reports and visualizations designed for repeated monitoring.
- Exploration: An ad hoc analysis used to investigate why something happened.
- Data warehouse: A centralized environment where data from multiple systems is stored, standardized, and modeled for analysis.
More data does not automatically create better decisions. Poorly defined metrics, duplicated events, inconsistent time zones, incomplete costs, and double-counted attributed revenue can make a large dashboard less trustworthy than a small spreadsheet.
Reporting versus analytics, business intelligence, and attribution
| Function | Primary question | Typical output |
|---|---|---|
| Reporting | What happened? | Recurring sales, funnel, inventory, or finance report |
| Analytics | Why did it happen? | Funnel exploration, cohort analysis, segmentation, or diagnosis |
| Business intelligence | How should the organization manage information and decisions? | Governed data models, dashboards, forecasts, and operational insights |
| Attribution | Which channel or touchpoint receives credit? | Model-based channel, campaign, or creative performance |
These functions overlap but are not interchangeable. Reporting describes results. Analytics investigates them. Attribution assigns credit according to a model. Attribution credit is not automatically proof that a channel caused the sale. The distinction matters especially when evaluating advertising return.
Who uses e-commerce reports?
| User | Main questions | Useful reports |
|---|---|---|
| Founder or executive | Are we growing profitably and preserving cash? | Net sales, contribution margin, cash flow, inventory exposure, forecast |
| Growth marketer | Which channels and campaigns deserve budget? | Spend, CAC, ROAS, MER, conversion rate, attribution, incrementality |
| Merchandiser | Which products, variants, and bundles are working? | Product sales, margin, sell-through, attach rate, discounting, stockouts |
| CRM manager | Which customers will buy again? | Cohorts, repeat rate, LTV, purchase frequency, email and SMS revenue |
| Operations manager | Can demand be fulfilled profitably? | Inventory, stockouts, fulfillment time, delivery, cancellations, returns |
| Finance team | Do sales, costs, settlements, and profit reconcile? | Gross-to-net sales, refunds, tax, fees, COGS, cash, and working capital |
| Agency | What changed and what should the client do next? | Client scorecard, channel, creative, funnel, explanation, and action report |
The main types of e-commerce reports
1. Sales and revenue reports
Sales reports are the operational starting point for most stores. They commonly include:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Gross sales
- Discounts
- Returns and refunds
- Net sales
- Taxes
- Shipping revenue
- Total sales
- Orders and units sold
- Average order value
- Sales by product, customer type, channel, geography, and date
Define “revenue” before comparing reports. Gross sales, net sales, total sales, recognized revenue, attributed revenue, and collected cash can all be different. A store may record a sale when an order is placed, recognize revenue when goods are shipped, and receive cash after a payment processor’s settlement delay.
Shopify’s report documentation describes native categories including acquisition, inventory, and sales, along with filters, dimensions, metrics, visualizations, and exports. Shopify reports can display a maximum of 1,000 rows even though totals can include all rows, so large product or order analyses may require an export or external data model.
2. Product and merchandising reports
Product reports should go beyond a best-seller list. Useful views include:
- Revenue and units by SKU, product, category, and variant
- Product views, add-to-cart rate, and product conversion rate
- Gross margin and contribution profit by product
- Discount dependency and refund behavior
- Bundle, cross-sell, and attach-rate performance
- New-product performance
- Sales by channel and customer type
- Stockout impact and sell-through
Ranking by revenue alone can produce bad merchandising decisions. A high-revenue product may become unprofitable after discounts, returns, fulfillment, payment fees, and advertising costs. Product reporting should therefore connect demand with margin and inventory availability.

3. Marketing and acquisition reports
Marketing reports connect traffic and spending with orders and customers. They may include impressions, clicks, click-through rate, cost per click, sessions, conversions, spend, attributed revenue, CAC, ROAS, MER, new-customer share, and email or SMS revenue.
Important formulas include:
- ROAS: attributed revenue ÷ advertising spend.
- MER: total revenue ÷ total marketing spend.
- CAC: acquisition spend ÷ newly acquired customers.
- Blended CAC: total acquisition spend ÷ all new customers.
- Contribution after marketing: contribution profit before marketing minus marketing cost.
ROAS is a platform- or model-reported return, not necessarily incremental profit. Attribution windows, view-through credit, modeled conversions, returning-customer credit, cross-channel overlap, conversion lag, consent restrictions, and different definitions of purchase value can all change the result. Do not add Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, affiliate, and other attributed revenue together and call the sum total revenue.
Useful acquisition cuts include branded versus non-branded search, paid versus organic traffic, first-time versus returning customers, campaign, ad set, creative, landing page, device, geography, and product.
4. Funnel and conversion reports
A basic e-commerce funnel is:
- Session or landing-page visit
- Product-list view
- Product-detail view
- Add to cart
- Begin checkout
- Add payment information
- Purchase
- Repeat purchase
Recommended funnel metrics include product-view-to-cart rate, cart-to-checkout rate, checkout completion rate, overall purchase conversion rate, revenue per session, and landing-page conversion rate. Segment abandonment by device, browser, geography, traffic source, payment method, and product to find problems that an overall conversion rate hides.

5. Customer and retention reports
Customer reporting helps distinguish one-time sales from a durable customer base. Include:
- New versus returning customers
- Repeat purchase rate
- Time to second purchase
- Purchase frequency
- Customer lifespan
- Historical and forecast LTV
- Revenue and contribution by cohort
- Lapse or churn rate
- Subscription retention
- Refund and discount behavior by cohort
- Customer segments by first product or acquisition source
LTV is a model, not a single permanent fact. State its cohort, time horizon, margin basis, refund treatment, and formula. One transparent historical version is:

Historical LTV = cumulative net contribution from a cohort ÷ customers in that cohort
Do not compare a gross-revenue LTV over 12 months with a contribution-margin LTV over 90 days. The numbers answer different questions.

6. Profitability and finance reports
A profitability report should show the movement from sales to profit rather than presenting revenue as the outcome:
Gross sales
- Discounts
- Returns and refunds
= Net sales
- COGS
= Gross profit
- Fulfillment and shipping subsidy
- Payment and marketplace fees
- Advertising expense
= Contribution profit
Depending on the business, the report may also include operating expenses, allocated overhead, cash collected, accounts receivable, inventory investment, duties, chargebacks, and financing costs.
Define whether COGS is based on standard cost, weighted average cost, landed cost, or another method. Product-level contribution is useful for decisions, but shared costs must be allocated consistently if products or channels are compared.
7. Inventory and operations reports
Inventory reports should distinguish available, committed, and sellable inventory. Useful measures include:
- Days of supply
- Inventory turnover
- Sell-through rate
- Stockout and backorder rate
- Purchase-order status
- Fulfillment time
- On-time delivery
- Cancellation rate
- Return rate and return reasons
- Damaged or defective units
A sales spike may be a success for marketing but a service failure if the store cannot ship orders. Inventory, fulfillment, and return data should therefore appear in the same decision process as demand.
8. Customer-service reports
Customer-service reporting can reveal product and operational problems before they appear in a sales summary. Track ticket volume, contact rate per order, first-response time, resolution time, refund requests, contact reasons, satisfaction, repeat contacts, and complaints by product, carrier, region, or fulfillment center.
9. Executive and board reports
Executive reporting should be deliberately small. A practical scorecard includes net sales, orders, AOV, new customers, new-customer CAC, contribution margin, repeat purchase rate, cash position, inventory risk, forecast versus target, the three most important changes, and the three resulting actions.
The most important e-commerce KPIs
Sales and revenue KPIs
| KPI | Formula | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| AOV | Net sales ÷ orders | State whether tax, shipping, and discounts are included. |
| Units per order | Units sold ÷ orders | Use the same order population as AOV. |
| Conversion rate | Orders ÷ sessions or users | Name the denominator; sessions and users are not interchangeable. |
| Revenue per session | Net sales ÷ sessions | Sensitive to tracking and attribution changes. |
| Refund rate | Refunded orders or value ÷ orders or sales | Specify order-based or value-based measurement. |
| Discount rate | Discounts ÷ gross sales | High discounting can increase sales while reducing margin. |
Marketing KPIs
| KPI | Formula | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| CAC | Acquisition spend ÷ new customers | Define which customers qualify as new. |
| ROAS | Attributed revenue ÷ ad spend | Not the same as incremental return. |
| MER | Total revenue ÷ total marketing spend | A blended business-level measure. |
| CTR | Clicks ÷ impressions | Does not measure margin or profitability. |
| CPC | Spend ÷ clicks | Interpret with conversion and contribution margin. |
| CPA | Spend ÷ attributed conversions | Define the conversion event. |
Customer KPIs
| KPI | Formula | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Repeat purchase rate | Customers with two or more purchases ÷ customers | State the observation period. |
| Retention rate | Returning customers in period ÷ eligible prior customers | Cohort eligibility changes the result. |
| LTV | Customer value over a defined period | State gross, net, or contribution basis. |
| Purchase frequency | Orders ÷ customers | Subscriptions and wholesale can distort comparisons. |
| Time to second order | Median days from first to second order | Median is often more useful than the average. |
Profitability and operations KPIs
| KPI | Formula | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Gross margin | Gross profit ÷ net sales | COGS must be consistently defined. |
| Contribution margin | Contribution profit ÷ net sales | State whether advertising is included. |
| Break-even ROAS | 1 ÷ contribution margin before advertising | Use the decimal margin, not the percentage. |
| Profit per order | Contribution profit ÷ orders | Allocate shared costs consistently. |
| Inventory turnover | COGS ÷ average inventory | Match the period and valuation method. |
| Return rate | Returned orders or units ÷ shipped orders or units | Choose order, unit, or value basis. |
How to build an e-commerce reporting system
Step 1: Define metric ownership
Assign a primary source to each metric rather than allowing every team to select the most favorable number.

|---|---|---|
| Orders | Commerce platform | Match completed orders and exclude defined test or canceled orders. |
| Net sales | Commerce platform | Reconcile refunds and tax treatment with accounting. |
| Sessions | GA4 | Use for behavioral trends, not as the order ledger. |
| Ad spend | Advertising platforms or validated connector | Match the platform billing time zone and currency. |
| COGS | ERP or accounting system | Version product costs by date and valuation method. |
| Cash collected | Payment processor and bank | Reconcile settlement timing, fees, refunds, and chargebacks. |
Step 2: Create a metric dictionary
For every KPI, document its name, formula, numerator, denominator, source, time zone, currency, tax treatment, refund treatment, customer classification, update frequency, and owner. Also document exclusions such as test orders, fraudulent orders, gift-card purchases, wholesale orders, or marketplace sales.
Step 3: Standardize the data
Use consistent order IDs, customer IDs, product IDs, SKUs, campaign names, UTM parameters, currency, time zone, refund status, cost fields, and channel taxonomy. Store names and identifiers should remain stable even when a campaign, product title, or ad account label changes.
Step 4: Build a reporting model
For a multi-source system, create documented tables or views for orders, order lines, customers, products, sessions, marketing spend, refunds, inventory, costs, campaigns, and calendar dates. A warehouse becomes increasingly useful when the business has multiple stores, channels, currencies, fulfillment locations, or complex profitability logic.
Step 5: Configure and validate analytics events
At minimum, validate view_item_list, select_item, view_item, add_to_cart, remove_from_cart, view_cart, begin_checkout, add_shipping_info, add_payment_info, purchase, and refund. Add promotion events where they matter.
Send available transaction and item parameters, use the correct currency, and validate events during implementation. Google notes that properly configured GA4 e-commerce data may take 24–48 hours to begin appearing after users trigger the events; see Google’s e-commerce overview and developer documentation.

Step 6: Build reports around a cadence
Use native reports for daily operations, analytics tools for behavior, spreadsheets for small controlled analyses, dashboards for recurring distribution, and a warehouse plus BI layer when the underlying data model needs governance and scale.
Step 7: Add ownership and action tracking
Each report should state what changed, why it changed, whether the change is meaningful, what action follows, who owns that action, and when it will be reviewed. A chart without an owner is usually an observation, not a management system.
Recommended reporting cadence
Daily operating report
- Yesterday’s orders and net sales
- Seven-day and 28-day comparisons
- Conversion rate and AOV
- Top products and stockouts
- Marketing spend and major anomalies
- New customers and refunds
- Failed payments, cancellations, and fulfillment exceptions
Weekly growth report
- Channel spend and revenue
- New-customer CAC, blended CAC, and MER

Quarterly strategic review
Review channel incrementality evidence, cohort quality, product economics, inventory turns, customer-service trends, cost assumptions, forecasting accuracy, and whether the reporting stack still matches the business.
GA4 e-commerce reporting: what it is good for
GA4 is best used for event-based behavioral analysis: traffic acquisition, product views, shopping behavior, funnel movement, promotions, landing pages, and audience segments. It is not a replacement for an order ledger or accounting system.
GA4 revenue may differ from the commerce platform because of missing or duplicate purchase events, browser and consent restrictions, payment redirects, cross-domain errors, different date ranges or time zones, tax and shipping treatment, refund timing, currency conversion, canceled orders, and sales from POS, marketplaces, or offline channels that never generated a GA4 event.
Use GA4 to investigate behavior and trends. Use the commerce platform to manage commerce transactions, and use accounting or finance systems for recognized revenue and profit according to the company’s accounting policy.
Shopify reporting: capabilities and limits
Shopify Analytics provides dashboards and reports for store activity, visitors, web performance, transactions, net sales by channel, and sessions by device. Native reporting is a strong first layer because it is close to the store’s order data and requires little implementation.
Shopify reports can be filtered, customized, visualized, and exported, and ShopifyQL can support more advanced report construction. Plan and store configuration can affect available capabilities. Report row limits also matter: a large catalog or order history may require exports or external analysis even when the native totals are useful.
Shopify is generally a sensible operational source of truth for Shopify orders, products, and store transactions. It should not automatically be treated as the authority for every financial metric. Accounting may own recognized revenue and profit, a payment processor may own settlement data, and an ERP may own inventory valuation and COGS.
How to reconcile Shopify, GA4, advertising, payment, and accounting data
Why the numbers differ
- Different definitions of gross, net, total, recognized, attributed, or collected revenue
- Different time zones and date cutoffs
- Tax, shipping, duties, gift cards, and store-credit treatment
- Refunds, partial refunds, exchanges, cancellations, fraud, and chargebacks
- Duplicate or missing purchase events
- Consent-denied sessions and browser restrictions
- Payment redirects and cross-domain checkout errors
- Offline, marketplace, POS, wholesale, or subscription transactions
- Currency conversion and settlement timing
- Ad-platform attribution windows, modeled conversions, view-through rules, and overlap
A practical reconciliation sequence
- Choose a period and time zone. Use the same start and end timestamps for every source.
- Start with completed orders. Decide how canceled, fraudulent, test, wholesale, marketplace, subscription, and POS orders are treated.
- Reconcile gross-to-net sales. Match discounts, returns, refunds, taxes, and shipping.
- Reconcile payment settlements separately. Cash arrival can lag the order date and can be reduced by fees, refunds, and chargebacks.
- Check GA4 implementation. Test a real order path and look for missing or duplicated purchase events.
- Compare ad spend, not summed attributed revenue. Use each platform’s reported ROAS alongside blended business measures.
- Document the variance. A known, explained difference is more useful than a forced match that hides scope differences.
Worked example
Suppose the commerce platform reports $100,000 in gross sales for a month. After $8,000 of discounts and $7,000 of refunds, net sales are $85,000. If COGS is $34,000, gross profit is $51,000. After $9,000 of fulfillment and shipping subsidy, $2,500 of payment and marketplace fees, and $18,000 of advertising, contribution profit is $21,500, or 25.3% of net sales.
An advertising platform might claim $54,000 of attributed revenue during the same month. That figure can be useful for managing the platform’s reported performance, but it cannot be added to other platforms’ attributed revenue or treated as proof that $54,000 of additional sales was caused by advertising. The business-level view remains the commerce and finance waterfall, supplemented by incrementality evidence where available.
Incrementality: the limit of attribution
Attribution assigns credit according to rules. Incrementality asks what would have happened without the marketing activity. The latter is closer to a causal question.
Possible approaches include:
- Holdout tests: Withhold a campaign or audience from a comparable control group.
- Geo tests: Compare treated and control geographic areas.
- Incrementality experiments: Test whether additional exposure creates additional outcomes rather than merely receiving credit for existing demand.
- Media-mix modeling: Estimate channel contribution from aggregated spend and outcome data over time.
These approaches have different requirements and limitations. A dashboard’s attributed ROAS should be reported as attributed ROAS, while decisions about scaling spend should also consider new-customer CAC, contribution after marketing, blended MER, and available incrementality evidence.

Shopify Analytics is connected to store data and is useful for orders, products, inventory, and sales with relatively little setup. Its weaknesses are limited cross-platform attribution, dependence on complete cost data for profit reporting, and potential constraints around multi-store or advanced customization. Adobe Commerce also provides native report categories and business-intelligence options; see its reports documentation and Business Intelligence documentation.

Best for: Behavioral analytics, funnel analysis, acquisition analysis, and event-level product reporting.
GA4 is available as a standard analytics product, with Analytics 360 offered separately. The standard product may have no software license charge, but implementation, consent configuration, quality assurance, connectors, and analyst time are real costs. It is a poor fit as a financial ledger, profit system, or causal incrementality solution.
Spreadsheets
Best for: Early-stage businesses with low data volume and stable reporting needs.
Spreadsheets are flexible, inexpensive, and easy to inspect. They become risky when refreshes are manual, formulas are copied, versions diverge, access is uncontrolled, or nobody can explain how a total was produced. A well-documented spreadsheet is often a better first system than an expensive dashboard built on unreliable inputs.

Best for: Recurring, shareable dashboards combining GA4, advertising, spreadsheets, and connected sources.
Looker Studio is a presentation layer, not automatically a clean data model. Connector reliability, blended-data calculations, data volume, permissions, and refresh schedules can all create problems. Do not confuse Looker Studio with Looker, Google Cloud’s separate enterprise BI product with separate platform and user pricing described on its pricing page.
Connectors and data pipelines
Best for: Automating imports from store, advertising, analytics, and finance systems into spreadsheets, dashboards, or a warehouse.
Connectors reduce manual work but do not resolve conflicting definitions. Check refresh frequency, historical backfill, API limits, schema changes, error alerts, refund handling, currency support, and whether the connector preserves row-level data or only imports aggregated totals.
E-commerce analytics, profitability, and attribution platforms
Best for: Brands that need unified marketing, sales, profitability, cohort, attribution, or multi-store reporting without building everything internally.
Examples include Triple Whale, Daasity, Northbeam, Glew, Peel, Polar Analytics, and similar products. Shopify’s tool overview identifies several common options, but no product is universally best. Fit depends on platform, channels, media spend, margin complexity, attribution needs, and data maturity.
Warehouses and governed BI
Best for: Businesses with multiple stores, currencies, channels, retail or wholesale operations, complex cost logic, or a need for auditability.
A warehouse plus BI layer offers control over data models, history, permissions, calculations, and exports. It also requires engineering, monitoring, documentation, and ongoing maintenance. It is not automatically cheaper than a managed platform.

| High paid-media spend | Attribution platform such as Northbeam or Triple Whale | May justify deeper media and creative analysis. |
| Complex retail, wholesale, and DTC | Daasity, a warehouse, or enterprise BI | Better suited to multi-source reporting. |
| Custom finance and operations logic | Warehouse plus governed BI | Maximum control and auditability. |
| No internal analytics expertise | Tool plus implementation or managed reporting | Reduces the risk of building an attractive but unreliable dashboard. |
Triple Whale: Its public pricing page showed a free plan and displayed paid tiers including Foundation at $299 per month, Advanced at $389 per month, and Professional at $749 per month in one pricing presentation. Another presentation showed a $219-per-month Foundation price and revenue-tier-based pricing. Package, GMV tier, billing term, and page configuration can change the displayed price. It is generally aimed at DTC brands wanting unified store, marketing, attribution, profitability, cohort, and dashboard reporting: Triple Whale pricing.
Daasity: The Shopify App Store listing showed the product starting at $1,899 per month, with usage charges based on an annualized rolling three-month average of total revenue. It is designed for consumer brands with DTC, retail, wholesale, marketing, customer, and profitability data, rather than very small Shopify-only stores: Daasity on Shopify.
Northbeam: Its public pricing page showed a Starter plan beginning at $1,500 per month for Shopify brands below a stated annual media-spend threshold of $1.5 million. Professional pricing was quote-based for larger media spend and broader platform needs. It is more appropriate for attribution and paid-media decisions than for inventory or accounting management: Northbeam pricing.
The best tool is not necessarily the most expensive one. Choose the lowest-complexity system that produces trustworthy numbers and supports decisions the business actually makes.
How to choose a reporting tool
Score each candidate against these criteria:
- Commerce-platform compatibility
- Number of stores and channels

Ask vendors to demonstrate your actual workflows: a partial refund, a canceled order, a bundle, a subscription renewal, a multi-currency order, a new versus returning customer split, a product-margin view, and a campaign reconciliation. A polished demo using sample data is not evidence that the system will handle your edge cases.
Common reporting mistakes
Using ROAS as profit
ROAS may omit COGS, fulfillment, returns, discounts, payment fees, agency fees, and overhead. Evaluate contribution after marketing instead.
Using undefined revenue
Always label gross sales, net sales, recognized revenue, attributed revenue, and cash collected separately.

Treating GA4 as the database
GA4 is an event-based analytics system whose results depend on implementation, consent, browser behavior, and scope. It is not an accounting ledger.
Assuming LTV is fixed
State the cohort, observation period, margin basis, discounting, refunds, and calculation method.
Double-counting channel revenue
Platform-reported attributed revenue overlaps. Use store revenue for the business total and attribution outputs for channel-decision context.
Ignoring latency
Some sources are near real time; others lag because of API imports, conversion processing, refunds, settlement timing, or warehouse refresh schedules. Label reports with their last refresh time.

Automating without monitoring
Automated reports can silently fail because of expired tokens, broken connectors, renamed campaigns, changed schemas, API limits, or source-platform changes. Add freshness checks, anomaly alerts, and a named owner.
Tracking too many KPIs
A report should focus attention. If every number is called a KPI, none of them establishes priority. Keep executive reports small and move diagnostic detail to supporting views.
Edge cases that need explicit rules
Before reporting begins, decide how the system handles multi-currency stores, tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive prices, marketplace, retail, POS, and wholesale orders, subscriptions and renewals, bundles and kits, variants, preorders, backorders, gift cards, store credit, partial refunds, exchanges, canceled and fraudulent orders, test orders, split shipments, duties, chargebacks, customers using multiple email addresses, consent restrictions, duplicate browser and server-side events, multiple storefronts, agency client boundaries, and fiscal calendars that do not match calendar months.
These are not minor technical details. For example, counting a gift-card purchase as product revenue can distort product performance, while counting a later gift-card redemption again can inflate sales. Recording a return in the month it was authorized rather than received can change monthly margin. Treating a subscription renewal as a new customer acquisition can make CAC and retention meaningless.
