What Mollie does
Mollie provides payment acceptance and business-money products for companies operating in Europe and the UK. Its tools cover online checkout, payment links, subscriptions, invoicing, in-person payments, business accounts, capital and outbound payments.
Businesses can use a hosted checkout, Mollie payment links, terminals, or the Tap app. Refunds, chargeback replies, failed-payment recovery, team permissions and revenue views are handled in its dashboard. Mollie says more than 250,000 businesses use its service.
Fees and plans
Pay as you go is billed at €0 each month, with no contract or commitment. Domestic consumer debit and credit transactions cost 1.20%, other consumer cards 1.80%, American Express 2.10% and commercial cards 2.90%. The allowance covers at most one hardware terminal.
Business accounts cost €9 a month, with 12 months free. This package provides five accounts, unlimited incoming transfers, 100 outgoing transfers without charge each month, €0.20 for each one after that, and five Mollie debit cards. Pro costs €20 a month. Under that plan, domestic consumer cards are €0.10 plus 0.85%, other consumer cards €0.10 plus 1.50%, American Express €0.10 plus 1.80% and commercial cards €0.10 plus 2.50%. One terminal license is included; extra terminals cost €20 a month.
In-person Pro is €20 a month for each terminal and is described for monthly volumes above €1,900. It uses the Pro card rates, includes one terminal, charges €20 a month for each extra terminal and allows unlimited Tap apps. In-person volume pricing is by request above €100,000 in volume, with unlimited terminals and Tap apps. The in-person pay-as-you-go listing shows no price: domestic consumer cards are 1.20%, other consumer cards 1.80%, American Express 2.10% and commercial cards 2.90%; it permits one hardware terminal, unlimited Tap apps and excludes PAX.
A Tap terminal requires a one-off €95 payment. A mobile terminal costs €350 one time, plus starting at €20 a month per active terminal. A fixed terminal also costs €350 one time, plus starting at €20 a month per active terminal. Online payment pricing is available on request: Mastercard and Visa EEA consumer cards are 1.80% plus €0.25, EEA commercial cards 2.90% plus €0.25, non-EEA cards 3.25% plus €0.25, SEPA Direct Debit €0.35 and SEPA Bank Transfer €0.25. Standard transaction pricing has no listed price and lists the same EEA commercial, non-EEA, American Express, SEPA Direct Debit and SEPA Bank Transfer rates, with EEA consumer card transactions billed per successful transaction.
Where it runs
Mollie offers web, iPhone and Android apps, plus an API. Its Web App and API handle online as well as in-person payment flows. The Tap app turns an iPhone or Android phone, tablet or kiosk into a contactless payment terminal; Tap to Pay is available on both phone platforms.
Developers have Mollie.js, official libraries for Laravel Cashier, Node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, .NET and Go, plus ready-made plugins. Community libraries are listed for Elixir, Haskell and Omnipay.
Protection and rules, as Mollie publishes them
Mollie says Mollie B.V. is licensed as an electronic money institution by the Dutch Central Bank, and Mollie UK Ltd is licensed by the UK Financial Conduct Authority. The company says it is SOC 2 Type 2 and PCI DSS Level 1 compliant, with ISAE 3402 Type 2 audited operational controls.
Mollie states that it uses 24/7 monitoring, penetration testing, encryption and dashboard security controls. API connections must use HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or newer and API-key authentication. The published materials here do not state deposit protection, two-factor sign-in or a specific dispute-handling policy.
Strengths
Mollie combines online checkout, payment links, subscriptions, invoicing, in-person acceptance, payouts and business accounts. Merchants can choose daily, weekly or monthly payout timing.
One integration connects merchants to 38 payment methods, while the service supports 28 currencies and payouts in listed currencies such as EUR, GBP and USD, plus up to 11 additional payout currencies. Its API, plugins and SDKs give developers several integration paths.
Catches to check
Mollie limits its payment services to organizations operating in a business capacity rather than personal, family or household users. Availability, payout countries, supported currencies and payment methods may therefore matter before setup.
Several prices are by request or not listed. Card rates differ by plan and card type. Terminal packages can involve purchase costs, monthly charges, volume thresholds or terminal-count limits; some allow only one hardware terminal, and in-person pay as you go does not support PAX.
Who may want another service
Mollie targets business users, so it may not suit someone seeking a personal service or a company that requires a published fee for every payment route or a terminal setup beyond the stated limits.
Businesses seeking payment-link tools may need to assess other services separately.
Verdict
European and UK businesses can use Mollie for online and in-person acceptance together with links, recurring collection, invoices, payouts and business-account tools. Its web, mobile and API options can serve both operational teams and developers.
The trade-off is a wide price table. Some plans are free but charge per card transaction; others add monthly fees, terminal costs or volume conditions. Several online and in-person prices require a quote or are not published. Personal users and businesses outside the stated business scope should look elsewhere.
