What Midtrans does
Midtrans helps businesses accept online payments and manage payouts. Its published options include cards, bank transfers, QRIS, e-wallets and over-the-counter payments, with 25 methods available to enable together or selectively.
Snap supplies a checkout interface for websites and apps. Core API is a REST service for a merchant-built payment flow, and Payment Link creates a shareable payment page without code. Recurring charges, promotions, transaction reports and real-time payment notices are also listed features.
Fees and plans
Midtrans lists a free “Pay per successful transaction” plan: no subscription or integration fee, with a charge on each successful transaction. Rates vary by payment method, and the pricing page shows amounts in IDR or percentages. Gaming and digital-product businesses may have different rates. Setup is free.
Published one-time rates are DANA at 1.50 IDR per transaction, ShopeePay at 2 IDR, GoPay at 2 IDR, QRIS at 7 IDR, OVO at 15 IDR, bank-transfer virtual accounts at 4000 IDR, and cards at 292000 IDR. The card entry covers Visa, Mastercard, JCB, American Express and UnionPay and says there are no extra fees beyond card transaction fees.
Midtrans gives a pricing note of from 4,000 IDR. It does not publish a separate subscription price in these facts; payment-method fees and any gaming or digital-product rate differences need checking.
Where it runs
Midtrans provides Android and iOS mobile SDKs for accepting payments inside an app. It also offers web checkout, a REST API and plugins for listed ecommerce systems, including WordPress WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop, OpenCart and WHMCS.
The Core API can serve web, app, point-of-sale and IoT systems, but the merchant builds the payment interface. Snap supplies the hosted checkout interface. The facts do not describe a desktop computer application.
Protection and rules, as Midtrans publishes them
Midtrans says it is licensed by Bank Indonesia, registered with Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics, PCI DSS Level 1 compliant and audited by a PCI Council-qualified assessor. It also says it is ISO/IEC 27001 certified and uses AES-256 encryption for transaction data.
The provider says integrations must use HTTPS and SNI. TLS 1.0 and 1.1 are disabled, while TLS 1.2 and 1.3 are supported. Card integrations must use Midtrans JavaScript or Mobile SDK libraries unless the merchant is PCI DSS certified.
Midtrans says its fraud system screens every transaction with machine-learning techniques and analyst-defined rules, using signals such as location, email and timing. The published facts do not state a deposit-protection scheme, two-factor sign-in or a dispute process.
Strengths
Merchants can choose among 25 payment methods, use hosted or custom checkout, and send payment links through chat without a technical integration.
Recurring billing, no-code promotion settings, automatic dashboard records, CSV or XLSX exports and real-time payment notifications are included in the published feature set.
Documentation lists SDKs for PHP, Ruby, Node.js, Python, Java and Go, plus API references, sandbox tools and Postman collections.
Catches and conditions
The service supports one currency in the facts. Transaction rates differ by payment method, and gaming or digital-product companies may face different rates. Core API is on by default in the sandbox, but production use needs an activation request reviewed by Midtrans.
The gateway is presented as a hosted service, with hosted HTTPS endpoints and JavaScript checkout files rather than a self-hosted gateway. Recurring payments work only on some payment channels.
Support covers integration, registration, methods, transactions, pricing, withdrawals and account changes. The facts mention weekday and weekend support hours but do not give the hours.
Who may want another option
Midtrans may not fit a business needing more than one supported currency, a self-hosted gateway, or recurring billing on a channel Midtrans does not support.
Verdict
Midtrans suits businesses that want Indonesian payment acceptance with many local methods, hosted or custom checkout, payment links and an API. Its free setup and transaction-only model keep fixed platform charges out of the published plan.
It is less suitable where currency coverage, self-hosting or universal recurring-payment support matters. Method rates, special industry pricing and production activation conditions are central parts of the cost and setup picture.
