Amazon Prime Day 2025 has ended. In the U.S., the event ran from Tuesday, July 8, through Friday, July 11, 2025. It began at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time (3:01 a.m. Eastern) and ended at 11:59 p.m. Pacific, making it a 96-hour event rather than the traditional two-day sale. (Amazon’s announcement)
This retrospective explains who could shop the event, what changed in 2025, which types of offers needed the most scrutiny, and how to evaluate future Amazon sale prices without confusing a large discount percentage with a genuinely good deal.

Prime Day 2025 is not an active sale. Expired deal pages, promotional prices and trial offers from July 2025 should not be treated as current offers.
It was also separate from Prime Big Deal Days, Amazon’s October 7–8, 2025 event. Those were two different promotions.

Who could shop Prime Day deals?
Prime Day was designed primarily as a Prime-member-exclusive event. Shoppers generally needed an active Prime membership to access qualifying Prime Day prices. However, not every offer associated with the event had identical rules.
Amazon’s site could show several different types of promotions, including:
- Prime-exclusive discounts
- Early Prime access deals
- Lightning Deals
- Coupons that had to be selected on the product page
- Brand promotions available to nonmembers
- Separate offers for subscriptions, payment products or partner services
Always read the eligibility and expiration terms for the specific offer rather than assuming that every discount had the same Prime requirement.
What changed during Prime Day 2025?
A four-day format
The event lasted 96 hours, twice the length of Amazon’s previous two-day Prime Day format. Amazon said the 2025 event took place in 26 countries, including Ireland and Colombia for the first time. Local participation and terms could vary by market. (Amazon’s event announcement)

“Today’s Big Deals”
Amazon introduced themed daily deal drops called Today’s Big Deals. These offers launched at midnight Pacific time each day, were available for limited periods and depended on inventory. A four-day event did not mean that every product stayed discounted for four days.
Amazon promoted millions of discounts across more than 35 categories, highlighting brands such as Samsung, Sony, Dyson, Shark, Levi’s, Kiehl’s, ELEMIS, Stanley, Blink, Away and Play-Doh. Those were examples from Amazon’s promotional coverage—not guarantees that every product from those brands had the lowest market price.
Prime for Young Adults
Amazon promoted a six-month $0 trial for eligible young adults, followed in its 2025 promotional material by a stated price of $7.49 per month or $69 per year. Those figures were historical 2025 promotional terms, not confirmed 2026 prices. Eligibility and current pricing should be checked at Amazon’s current Prime for Young Adults page.

Alexa+ deal assistance
Amazon said U.S. Prime members with access to Alexa+ could receive personalized deal recommendations, track products in a cart or list, and get notifications when an item reached a preferred price range. Alexa+ access was not universal; Amazon described it as available to more than one million U.S. customers at the time. (Amazon’s explanation of the 2025 changes)

How to find a genuinely good deal
Before a sale
- Make a shortlist. Add products you already intend to buy to an Amazon List or shopping list. Amazon also recommended using Lists and Buy Again to monitor products. (Amazon’s shopping guidance)
- Record normal prices. Check prices several weeks in advance. This gives you a reference point that is more useful than an advertised percentage discount alone.
- Identify the exact model. Write down the model number, generation, storage capacity, size and included accessories.
- Check for coupons. Some discounts require ticking a coupon box on the product page before checkout.
- Review the seller. Confirm whether the item is sold by Amazon, the manufacturer or a third party. Check feedback, fulfillment, returns, condition and warranty support.
During the sale
- Check at the start of each day. Today’s Big Deals launched at midnight PDT, although inventory and timing could change.
- Use Amazon’s Deals page and search tools. The official hub is Amazon’s Deals page.
- Compare price history. A price tracker or browser extension can help show whether the current price is unusually low. Review any tool’s current availability, privacy terms and supported marketplaces before using it.
- Compare other retailers. Competitors often run matching promotions during Prime Day. Amazon’s Prime Day label does not automatically make its price the lowest.
- Inspect the checkout total. Account for tax, shipping, coupons, add-ons, subscriptions and the selected product variant.
- Do not treat a timer as proof of value. Lightning Deals can sell out before the countdown ends, but urgency is not a substitute for comparison shopping.
After buying
- Save the order confirmation, product page and warranty information.
- Check the return deadline.
- Confirm that the delivered item matches the intended model and condition.
- Do not buy an unwanted product simply because the discount percentage looks large.
- If the price later falls, check Amazon’s current price-adjustment and return policies rather than assuming a refund is available.
Where Prime Day shoppers needed the most caution
Electronics and computers
Compare generation, storage, screen size, connectivity and included accessories. A cheaper older model may be worthwhile, but it should not be compared with the newest version as though they were identical.
Amazon devices
Echo, Fire and Blink products may be heavily promoted, but calculate the cost of accessories, compatible services and any features that require subscriptions.
Appliances and home products
Check dimensions, voltage, capacity, replacement-filter costs, warranty terms and whether the product is new, renewed or refurbished.

Verify size, shade, expiration information where relevant, return restrictions and seller identity. A percentage-off claim may apply only to selected colors or sizes.

Grocery and pantry products
Compare the unit price, package size and delivery requirements. A multi-pack is not a bargain if you would not otherwise use the contents before they expire.
Subscriptions and partner offers
Kindle Unlimited, Audible, Grubhub+, grocery, streaming, travel and payment-related promotions could have separate eligibility rules and expiration dates. For example, Amazon promoted three free months of Audible for eligible new customers in 2025, with a stated post-trial renewal price of $14.95 per month plus taxes. That historical offer extended through July 31, 2025, and was not an active Prime Day offer after the event. (Amazon’s 2025 Audible announcement)

Use the current Prime membership page for the price and terms. Amazon’s 2025 promotional material cited $14.99 per month for standard Prime, but that historical figure should not be assumed to remain current in 2026.
Joining may make sense for someone making several planned purchases or using Prime shipping, video, music, grocery or other benefits. It is less likely to make sense for someone joining solely for a small one-time discount.
If you use a free trial, check eligibility first, note the renewal price shown at signup, set a reminder before the trial ends, and cancel through Amazon’s membership settings if you do not intend to continue. Confirm the cancellation screen or confirmation email. Not every shopper qualifies for a trial.

Common Prime Day mistakes
- Assuming “up to 50% off” describes the average discount. It applies only to selected products.
- Comparing a sale price with a list price without checking recent history.
- Missing a coupon checkbox.
- Buying an older generation, smaller capacity, single item or international model by mistake.
- Overlooking that “renewed” or refurbished is not new.
- Ignoring third-party seller feedback, warranty support or return terms.
- Forgetting that Kindle Unlimited, Audible and other subscriptions may auto-renew.
- Opening a credit product solely for a sale. Amazon’s 2025 announcement promoted Prime Card rewards, including 5% back under stated conditions, but current rewards, eligibility and terms must be checked at the official card page. Rewards are not worthwhile if you carry interest-bearing debt.
- Buying something solely to qualify for free shipping.
What to do now that Prime Day 2025 is over
Expired July 2025 offers should be removed from live deal roundups or labeled clearly as historical. If you link to Amazon’s current Deals page, make clear that it contains current promotions—not Prime Day 2025 prices.
Future Prime Day dates should be treated as unconfirmed until Amazon announces them. Keep July’s Prime Day separate from Prime Big Deal Days, which was the October 2025 event.
