Intel gained ground at Germany’s Mindfactory after its Alder Lake launch, but the available 2021 sales snapshots do not show Intel overtaking AMD. They show Intel moving from 15% of Mindfactory processor sales in May to about one-third of German retail CPU share in November, according to separate reports drawing on Mindfactory data.
What the Mindfactory figures show
The reported figures mark a substantial shift in Intel’s position at one retailer, not a victory over AMD. The May and November numbers come from separate reports and are snapshots rather than a continuous monthly series.

| Snapshot | Reported Intel share | Reported AMD share | Source and scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| May 2021 | 15% of Mindfactory processor sales | 85% | TechSpot, 2021; Mindfactory sales |
| November 2021 | About one-third of German retail CPU share | Not stated in TechRadar’s cited summary | TechRadar, 2021, reporting Mindfactory data compiled by Ingebor |
Comparing the reported Intel figures suggests a gain of roughly 18 percentage points between the two snapshots. That is an approximate comparison, not a precisely measured month-by-month change: the reports are from different dates and publications, and the November figure is rounded.

No—not in the evidence available here. Intel’s share had risen to about one-third in the November report, leaving it short of a majority. The figures indicate that AMD’s earlier dominant position was less pronounced at Mindfactory after Alder Lake arrived; they do not show Intel becoming the leading seller there.

Mindfactory is not the whole CPU market
Mindfactory is a major German online retailer, and its sales figures describe purchases through that retailer. They are not worldwide shipment data or a complete measure of all German computer sales. A buyer mix concentrated in DIY desktop components can differ from the mix among laptop makers, other retailers, or the global PC market.
The May and November reports also do not establish what happened in every intervening month or whether Intel held its gains after later Ryzen releases. Treat the result as a retailer-specific change during late 2021, not a durable market-share trend.

What Alder Lake changed
Intel’s 12th Gen Core Alder Lake family brought a performance-hybrid design to mainstream PCs. It paired two kinds of cores on one processor die: Performance-cores (P-cores) for demanding, high-performance work and Efficient-cores (E-cores) for efficiency-oriented tasks. Intel’s Thread Director provides the operating system with information to help assign work to the appropriate cores.
Intel described the family as based on Intel 7 process technology and its new performance-hybrid architecture. The company launched six unlocked desktop processors on October 27, 2021. It planned a wider 12th Gen family of 60 processors and more than 500 designs.

- Can deliver fast 100 plus FPS performance in the world's most popular games, discrete graphics card required
- 6 Cores and 12 processing threads, bundled with the AMD Wraith Stealth cooler
- 4.2 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 19 MB cache, DDR4-3200 support
- For the advanced Socket AM4 platform
This new enthusiast desktop platform arrived alongside Intel’s sharp improvement in Mindfactory’s reported sales mix. That timing is consistent with Alder Lake contributing to Intel’s stronger position, but the sales snapshots are not a controlled test: they cannot show that the architecture alone caused the change.

Market share is a signal about what customers bought at a particular retailer and time; it is not a direct score of performance, value, or suitability for an individual PC. A Ryzen-versus-Alder Lake comparison should account for the specific processor generation and launch timing, core and thread design, and platform cost and compatibility—not just the retailer’s sales split.

Core i9-12900K as a launch-era example
Intel’s Core i9-12900K was among the unlocked desktop processors in the Alder Lake launch. It is a useful example of the family’s enthusiast positioning, but a 2021 market-share report does not establish that it is the best CPU to buy now. Anyone considering that model needs a compatible LGA1700 motherboard and adequate cooling; the total platform cost matters alongside the processor price.
