These products are not interchangeable. Some are contractor-management platforms, some are enterprise FSM suites, one is primarily workforce software, and Field Nation is a technician marketplace.

FSM software coordinates work performed away from a central office. A complete platform commonly combines customer and site records, work orders, scheduling, dispatch, technician availability and skills, route planning, mobile job execution, estimates, invoices, payments, photos, signatures, checklists, inventory, equipment histories, maintenance agreements, notifications, and operational reporting.
#1 Best Overall
Not every app with time tracking, chat, GPS, or a contractor marketplace is a complete FSM suite. The important question is whether it supports your entire workflow from request to dispatch, field work, documentation, billing, and analysis.
Who needs FSM software?
- Jobs are scheduled through texts, paper, or disconnected spreadsheets.
- Dispatchers cannot see technician availability, skills, territories, or current locations.
- Customers repeatedly ask for arrival updates.
- Technicians lack service history, equipment information, price books, or job instructions.
- Estimates and invoices are delayed or re-entered manually.
- Recurring maintenance agreements are tracked outside a system.
- Office staff repeatedly copy data into accounting software.
- Managers cannot measure utilization, drive time, first-time-fix rate, revenue per technician, or job profitability.
- The business has multiple crews, branches, service territories, or locations.
Best options by business size
Solo or two-person operators
Prioritize quick setup, a usable mobile app, estimates, invoices, online payments, reminders, and basic scheduling. Housecall Pro, Jobber, FieldPulse, Workiz, or Field Promax may be more practical than an enterprise suite. Do not pay for complex asset hierarchies or optimization tools unless near-term growth justifies them.
Small teams with roughly 3–10 field workers
Look for a shared dispatch board, route planning, customer messaging, price books, accounting integration, recurring work, job costing, and permissions. Housecall Pro, Jobber, Workiz, FieldPulse, and Service Fusion are the key comparison group.
Mid-market teams with roughly 10–50 field workers
Evaluate multiple dispatchers, skills-based assignment, territories, inventory and warehouse controls, equipment histories, service agreements, reporting, API access, onboarding, and project workflows. FieldEdge, Zuper, ServiceTitan, Simpro, BuildOps, ServiceTrade, and Fieldpoint may fit depending on trade and complexity.
Large and enterprise organizations
Prioritize installed-base and asset management, preventive or predictive maintenance, complex work-order lifecycles, resource optimization, multiple business units, ERP or CRM integration, security, identity controls, auditability, data governance, offline mobile operation, and implementation partners. Consider Salesforce Field Service, Dynamics 365 Field Service, ServiceMax, ServiceTitan, or other enterprise-oriented platforms.
Best software by industry
HVAC, plumbing, and electrical
Look for equipment histories, truck and parts inventory, flat-rate price books, maintenance agreements, financing, certifications, emergency dispatch, and support for quoted replacement work. FieldEdge and ServiceTitan are particularly relevant; Housecall Pro, FieldPulse, and Simpro can also fit depending on company size and project complexity.
Landscaping, lawn care, pest control, pool, and cleaning
Recurring routes, seasonal scheduling, route density, treatment records, weather rescheduling, subscriptions, memberships, and automated notifications matter more than enterprise asset hierarchies. GorillaDesk is purpose-aligned, while Jobber, Housecall Pro, and Field Promax may suit broader service workflows.

Prioritize contracts and SLAs, site and asset hierarchies, preventive maintenance, multiple account contacts, purchase orders, project and change-order workflows, compliance records, and customer portals. Compare Simpro, BuildOps, ServiceTrade, and ServiceTitan.
IT field service
Evaluate technician certifications, geographic coverage, device records, remote-support integration, parts logistics, client-specific procedures, proof of service, and contractor-network management. Field Nation is structurally different from internal-technician FSM because it operates through a marketplace model.
Facilities, utilities, manufacturing, and enterprise service
Installed-base management, IoT or remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, complex scheduling constraints, permits, safety controls, ERP integration, and offline mobile operation become central. ServiceMax, Salesforce Field Service, Dynamics 365 Field Service, and other enterprise suites deserve priority over lightweight contractor apps.
The 19 best FSM platforms
1. Housecall Pro: best all-in-one home-service platform
Housecall Pro is a strong starting point for residential HVAC, plumbing, electrical, cleaning, landscaping, appliance repair, and similar companies that want scheduling, estimates, invoices, payments, customer communication, and growth features in one system. Relevant capabilities include online booking, price books, job costing, GPS tracking, recurring service plans, QuickBooks Online integration, financing, and higher-plan route optimization.

Pricing signal: The official pricing page displayed annual-billing prices of $59 per month for Basic, $149 for Essentials, and $299 for MAX when checked on August 18, 2026. Basic included one user, Essentials five, and MAX eight. The page also showed a 14-day trial without a credit card requirement. Confirm current pricing and add-ons at the official pricing page.
Watch-outs: Costs can rise as users and advanced features are added. It is aimed primarily at home-service businesses, not highly customized enterprise field operations.
2. Service Fusion: best for contractors wanting unlimited users
Service Fusion focuses on dispatching, estimates, invoices, payments, GPS fleet tracking, QuickBooks connectivity, and technician mobile workflows. Its unlimited-user positioning can be attractive to contractors that need broad office and field access.
The target coverage reported a starting price of $192 per month, but that figure should be treated as dated until confirmed directly. Ask what “unlimited users” excludes: advanced modules, mobile access, storage, texts, API calls, or usage. Confirm current terms through Service Fusion.

Salesforce Field Service is designed for organizations that already use Salesforce or need customer, asset, contract, service-history, knowledge, scheduling, and mobile-worker data in one ecosystem. Its strength is CRM-connected customization and enterprise integration potential.
It is usually a poor fit for a small contractor that only needs a calendar and invoices. Budget for Salesforce licenses, Field Service licenses, integrations, customization, implementation, training, and data migration. See the official product page.
4. Connecteam: best for mobile-first workforce coordination
Connecteam is better framed as workforce operations software than as an automatic replacement for a full FSM suite. It can suit teams whose primary needs are communication, scheduling, forms, checklists, time tracking, and workforce coordination.
Test whether it supports the required customer records, work orders, estimates, price books, inventory, service agreements, and dispatch complexity. Start at Connecteam.
5. Jobber: best for straightforward scheduling, quoting, and invoicing
Jobber is a practical option for small residential service companies that want a workflow from request or lead through quote, scheduling, job completion, billing, and payment. It is worth comparing for scheduling, quoting, invoicing, customer communication, mobile access, and marketplace integrations.
A 2026 market comparison reported an entry point of about $39 per month, with higher estimated tiers around $169 and $349. Treat those as dated market signals, not permanent prices. Verify users, offline behavior, route optimization, accounting sync, recurring work, and plan restrictions at Jobber’s pricing page.
6. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Field Service: best for Microsoft ecosystems
Dynamics 365 Field Service fits organizations invested in Microsoft 365, Dynamics, Power Platform, Azure, Teams, or Microsoft identity and data services. It provides work orders, scheduling, dispatch, asset history, enterprise reporting, customization, and related remote-assistance capabilities.
The target coverage reported $50 and $105 per-user monthly options, but edition, region, currency, agreement, and add-on requirements matter. Confirm the current configuration at Microsoft’s pricing page.
7. Field Promax: best for budget-conscious specialized service companies
Field Promax targets smaller operations in areas such as HVAC, access control, electrical, lawn care, snow removal, and property services. Its stated use cases include scheduling, tracking, estimates, invoicing, and equipment records.
Validate support quality, integrations, reporting, recurring contracts, parts, multi-location capability, and offline mobile use before selecting it on price alone. Visit Field Promax.
8. Zuper: best for customizable workflows and integrations
Zuper is worth considering when standard small-business workflows are too rigid. Its positioning includes configurable work orders, scheduling, dispatch, estimates, invoices, route planning, automation, and integrations.
Customization can increase implementation and administrative effort. Test the technician app as carefully as the office configuration, and verify API access, user limits, and support tiers at Zuper.
9. Fieldpoint: best for end-to-end service projects
Fieldpoint is aimed at more complex service organizations coordinating projects, contracts, equipment, work orders, scheduling, and financial activity. It is more relevant when service management and project management overlap than when a solo operator needs only a calendar and invoice tool.
Assess implementation requirements, integrations, reporting, and whether the business truly needs both project and service workflows. See Fieldpoint.
10. FieldEdge: best for HVAC, plumbing, and electrical specialists
FieldEdge is oriented toward trade contractors that need equipment and customer history, dispatch, technician management, inventory, warehouse functions, price-book workflows, service agreements, and QuickBooks connectivity.
A 2026 market comparison described custom Select, Premier, and Elite tiers and estimated roughly $100–$300 per technician per month. This is an industry estimate, not an official published rate. Ask about implementation, mobile licenses, reports, contract terms, and included integrations at FieldEdge.

11. ServiceMax: best for asset-intensive service organizations
ServiceMax is designed for manufacturers, equipment providers, and enterprise service organizations where installed assets, warranties, contracts, parts, uptime, and technician productivity are central. Its value is in asset lifecycle and service-contract depth rather than only basic dispatch.
It is not an obvious choice for a small residential contractor. Evaluate its relationship to the wider Salesforce and enterprise stack at PTC ServiceMax.
12. Simpro: best for complex commercial and project-based contractors
Simpro suits electrical, mechanical, security, fire, HVAC, and other commercial contractors combining service, projects, estimating, inventory, purchasing, and financial management.
Expect more configuration than with a lightweight home-service app. Confirm accounting integrations, project depth, mobile offline behavior, modules, users, and implementation terms at Simpro.
13. Field Nation: best for outsourced IT field service
Field Nation is not simply an internal-technician scheduler. Its marketplace model helps organizations source, dispatch, manage, and document work through independent technicians.
Evaluate geographic coverage, contractor quality, compliance, proof of service, pricing, security, and whether the marketplace complements an existing internal FSM system. See Field Nation.
14. FieldPulse: best for small service businesses wanting more sales depth
FieldPulse combines CRM, estimates, scheduling, dispatch, invoicing, payments, and customer management for small and midsize service businesses. Compare it directly with Jobber and Housecall Pro based on the importance of sales workflow, operational controls, and integrations.
Verify current pricing, onboarding fees, user limits, and available integrations at FieldPulse pricing. Do not treat it as a universal ServiceTitan replacement without defining the company-size and workflow range.

15. BuildOps: best for commercial contractors
BuildOps is aimed at commercial HVAC, mechanical, electrical, fire, security, and related contractors needing stronger project, service, dispatch, estimating, and financial workflows.
Confirm trade support, project accounting, service agreements, inventory, customer portals, implementation, and exact pricing through BuildOps.
16. Workiz: best for call-heavy and on-demand businesses
Workiz is especially relevant to locksmiths, appliance repair, garage-door businesses, emergency plumbers, and other operators where inbound calls, caller identification, rapid booking, and fast dispatch matter. Its positioning includes scheduling, dispatch, billing, invoices, lead management, inventory, subcontractors, and analytics.
A 2026 comparison estimated roughly $65–$225 per month across tiers, but those figures are not official unless confirmed by the vendor. Phone, messaging, lead, user, and usage costs can materially change TCO. Compare it with Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan at Workiz.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors17. ServiceTitan: best for larger, complex trade contractors
ServiceTitan is designed for high-volume residential or commercial HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and related contractors with multiple teams, sophisticated sales and marketing operations, price books, memberships, inventory, job costing, and management reporting.
It can be economically irrational for a two-person shop. Its official page uses custom pricing; a 2026 market comparison cited industry estimates of approximately $200–$400 per technician per month plus possible implementation costs. Those are estimates, not verified public rates. Calculate first-year TCO and plan for process standardization, training, and implementation at ServiceTitan.
18. ServiceTrade: best for commercial mechanical service
ServiceTrade fits commercial HVAC, mechanical, and building-service companies managing equipment, preventive maintenance, inspections, contracts, and service documentation.
Compare its asset hierarchy, mobile workflows, customer portal, contract management, and integrations with Simpro and BuildOps. It is less relevant to a basic residential scheduling-and-invoicing operation. See ServiceTrade.
19. GorillaDesk: best for recurring route businesses
GorillaDesk is aimed at lawn care, pest control, cleaning, pool, and other recurring-route businesses. Route planning, recurring jobs, customer communication, and billing are more important here than complex enterprise asset management.
Confirm route depth, mobile functionality, support, payment fees, data export, and current training terms at GorillaDesk.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare pricing and total cost of ownership
Do not compare only the advertised monthly subscription. Calculate the first-year and ongoing cost using the actual number of technicians, dispatchers, office users, vehicles, locations, and transactions.
- Base subscription and billing cycle.
- Included users, technicians, dispatchers, and mobile licenses.
- Extra-user, location, storage, text, phone, GPS, and vehicle-tracking fees.
- Payment-processing and financing charges.
- API access, webhooks, and middleware such as Zapier.
- Accounting, CRM, ERP, payroll, telematics, and inventory integrations.
- Onboarding, implementation, migration, training, and hardware.
- Minimum contract term, renewal terms, annual-billing discounts, and support tier.
- Data export and retention after cancellation.
For example, a one-technician business should compare the cost of one included user and essential billing features. A five-person team should price every technician, dispatcher, payment fee, and accounting connection. A 15-person operation should include permissions, routing, inventory, reporting, and onboarding. For 20 or more technicians, a custom quote should include implementation, data migration, training, integrations, support, and contract terms—not just the per-user figure.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Mobile app questions that matter
“Has a mobile app” is not enough. Distinguish read-only access from full job execution and ask:
- Is the app native for iOS and Android, or is it mobile web?
- Can technicians open jobs, complete checklists, capture photos, annotate images, collect signatures, record time, update parts, and take payments?
- Does it work offline, and are queued updates, photos, and conflicts handled safely?
- Does GPS mean technician location, vehicle telematics, job-status updates, route optimization, or some combination?
- Can technicians communicate with dispatch without leaving the job?
- How do background location permissions affect privacy and battery life?
- Can the app handle a basement, rooftop, crawlspace, truck, or low-connectivity location?
Integrations: confirm depth, not logos
Ask whether each integration is native, two-way, real-time, available on the selected plan, dependent on middleware, and able to synchronize historical records, payments, taxes, inventory, and status changes.
Common requirements include QuickBooks Online or Desktop, Xero, Stripe or native payments, Google Calendar, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Dynamics, ERP systems, payroll, marketing leads, GPS and telematics, inventory, procurement, customer portals, Zapier, open APIs, and webhooks.
A practical evaluation scorecard
The following weights are an editorial buying framework, not an industry standard:
| Criterion | Weight | Evaluate |
|---|---|---|
| Core FSM workflow | 20% | Work orders, statuses, scheduling, and dispatch |
| Mobile technician experience | 15% | Usability, offline mode, photos, signatures, and checklists |
| Industry fit | 15% | Trade workflows, assets, recurring work, and compliance |
| Scheduling and routing | 10% | Skills, territories, routes, and emergency jobs |
| Estimates, invoices, and payments | 10% | Price books, approvals, financing, and collection |
| Integrations and API | 10% | Accounting, CRM, ERP, telematics, and API depth |
| Reporting and profitability | 8% | Job costing, utilization, margins, and dashboards |
| Scalability and administration | 7% | Permissions, locations, teams, and auditability |
| Pricing transparency and TCO | 5% | Seats, add-ons, implementation, and contract terms |
Questions to ask before signing
- How many users and dispatchers are included?
- Are GPS, texting, payments, API access, storage, and mobile licenses extra?
- Does mobile work offline, including photo uploads and signatures?
- Is QuickBooks synchronization two-way, and which records and plans are supported?
- What does onboarding and data migration cost?
- What is the minimum contract term and renewal policy?
- What data can be exported after cancellation, in what format, and how quickly?
- Can the vendor provide references in the same trade and company-size range?
- Can technicians test the mobile app on real jobs?
- How are GPS permissions, privacy, and employee notice handled?
- Are AI features included, and can AI create or modify jobs without human approval?
Implementation and migration plan
- Document current lead, scheduling, dispatch, field, billing, and accounting workflows.
- Clean customer, site, equipment, price-book, inventory, and contract data.
- Select a small pilot team representing office staff and technicians.
- Configure essential workflows first instead of reproducing every exception.
- Test mobile use, offline behavior, payments, invoices, notifications, and accounting synchronization.
- Run old and new systems in parallel briefly, with a clear cutover date.
- Measure adoption, data quality, invoice speed, and incomplete job records.
- Expand by team, branch, or territory.
- Review total cost and operational metrics after 30, 60, and 90 days.
Common failure points include poor process mapping, incomplete migration, weak technician training, inadequate mobile testing, unclear price-book ownership, and integrations designed without a data owner. A feature-rich enterprise platform can fail when implementation is poorly managed.
Bottom line
Choose by operating model, not by list position. Start with Housecall Pro or Jobber for a straightforward small home-service workflow; compare Workiz when calls and emergency dispatch dominate; consider FieldEdge for HVAC, plumbing, or electrical specialization; evaluate GorillaDesk for recurring routes; compare ServiceTitan, Simpro, BuildOps, and ServiceTrade for larger commercial or trade operations; and reserve Salesforce Field Service, Dynamics 365 Field Service, ServiceMax, or Fieldpoint for organizations prepared for enterprise implementation. Whatever the shortlist, have technicians test the mobile workflow and calculate the complete first-year cost before signing.
