The dispute ended on November 14, 2025, when YouTube TV and Disney reached a multi-year distribution agreement and began restoring ESPN, ABC and the broader Disney channel portfolio.
For subscribers, the practical questions are what disappeared, what the final agreement included, whether compensation is still available and whether switching services would make financial sense.

What “ready to make a deal” meant
YouTube TV used the phrase in a statement reported on November 8, while Disney-owned channels were still unavailable. The company said its team stood ready to make a “fair agreement” with Disney. That was an invitation to continue negotiations, not confirmation that the channels had returned.

The companies presented sharply different explanations. YouTube TV said Disney’s proposed economics could increase customer costs and reduce flexibility. Disney countered that Google was seeking preferential, below-market terms and had made few concessions. Those were competing positions, not independently established facts.

The underlying carriage agreement expired at the end of October 2025. Disney programming went dark on YouTube TV beginning October 30.

Which channels disappeared?
This was considerably broader than an ESPN outage. The affected lineup included:

- Sports: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News, ESPN Deportes, SEC Network and ACC Network.
- Local and news: ABC and ABC News Live.
- Entertainment: Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, FX, FXX, FXM and Freeform.
- Documentary and specialty networks: National Geographic, Nat Geo Wild and Localish.
- Spanish-language services: including Nat Geo Mundo and Baby TV Español, depending on the plan.
Some YouTube TV add-ons, including 4K Plus and Spanish Plus, were also affected where they relied on the removed programming. Exact availability can vary by market, plan and local ABC affiliate.

What subscribers missed
Sports viewers lost ESPN’s live schedule and college football games carried by ESPN and ABC. The blackout also affected some NFL, NBA and other sports coverage carried by Disney-owned networks, although not every NFL or NBA game is exclusive to those channels.
Families and general viewers simultaneously lost ABC programming, Disney Channel shows, FX series, National Geographic content and related news services. In other words, an ESPN-only replacement would not have restored the full value of the YouTube TV package.
The dispute reportedly affected more than 8 million YouTube TV subscribers, according to Axios. That figure should be understood as a reported subscriber count or estimate, not a measurement of unique viewers who watched the missing channels.
When did the blackout end?

The blackout lasted more than two weeks. The accurate present-day conclusion is that ESPN, ABC and the other affected Disney channels returned in November 2025; the negotiation described in the headline is historical.

- ESPN networks and ABC;
- Disney-branded channels;
- Freeform;
- FX networks; and
- National Geographic channels.
The agreement also included access to ESPN Unlimited for YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost, along with selected ESPN Unlimited live and on-demand programming inside the YouTube TV app. These are related but distinct arrangements: access to a direct-to-consumer service does not necessarily mean every feature behaves like a conventional linear ESPN channel within every YouTube TV interface.
Disney also described genre-specific channel packages and a Disney streaming bundle involving Disney+ and Hulu through a select YouTube TV offering. Package eligibility, activation steps and available content may depend on the subscriber’s plan.

What should YouTube TV subscribers check?
- Confirm the channels you actually use. Check ESPN, ABC, SEC Network, ACC Network, Disney Channel, FX and other important networks in your account and local lineup.
- Check ESPN Unlimited access. It was included at no additional cost under the agreement, but do not assume every ESPN Unlimited feature is automatically integrated into the YouTube TV app.
- Review your DVR library. YouTube TV said previously saved recordings, personal preferences and recommendations should return as channels were restored. The companies’ statements about recordings during the blackout differed, so check specific programs if an item is important.
- Do not count on the old credit. YouTube TV announced a one-time $20 credit for eligible subscribers, with a stated redemption deadline of December 9, 2025. That deadline has passed; it should not be treated as currently claimable without a new official extension.

Should you switch services?
The right financial choice depends on the channels you need—not simply on whether an alternative advertises ESPN.

Stay with YouTube TV
Staying is the simplest option for households that want a broad live-TV bundle, unlimited-DVR-style behavior and the restored Disney portfolio in one service. YouTube TV’s cited 2026 offer terms listed a main-plan price of $82.99 per month, but pricing and promotions can change. Check the current terms before budgeting.
Do not treat a promotional discount as a permanent rate. The cited offer terms included a promotion with redemption by August 31, 2026, so that particular deadline should not be presented as an available current offer.

Hulu + Live TV
Hulu + Live TV is a natural comparison for households that want Disney-owned programming in a live-TV service. Compare the total monthly price, local ABC availability, ESPN-family channels, DVR rules and any bundle conditions. It may not match YouTube TV’s interface or household-sharing setup.

Fubo may suit sports-oriented households, but channel availability, regional sports access, fees and network exclusions vary. Verify the lineup by ZIP code before canceling YouTube TV, especially if ABC, SEC Network, ACC Network or a particular local station matters.

ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service
An ESPN subscription can be cheaper than a full live-TV plan for someone who mainly wants ESPN programming. During the blackout period, its reported starting price was $29.99 per month. That price is date-specific and subject to change.
It is not a complete replacement for local ABC, Disney Channel, FX, National Geographic or the rest of YouTube TV’s lineup. Check the service’s current content and plan terms at ESPN’s official site.
Disney streaming bundles
A Disney+, Hulu and ESPN-oriented bundle may work for a household focused on on-demand entertainment and selected sports. It is not automatically equivalent to a cable-style live-TV service. Confirm whether the desired local ABC station, live event and linear network are included.
Prices reported during the dispute included $35.99 per month for a bundle, with a $29.99 first-year introductory rate. Those figures require current checkout verification at Disney+.
Over-the-air antenna
An antenna can restore local ABC broadcasts in suitable reception areas, potentially reducing the need for a full live-TV subscription. It cannot replace ESPN, SEC Network, ACC Network, FX or Disney Channel. Use the FCC’s reception map to check local coverage.

Before switching, compare the complete annual cost: base subscription, sports or entertainment add-ons, broadcast fees, taxes, equipment, promotional expiration dates and cancellation timing. A lower advertised monthly price can disappear once the missing channels require separate subscriptions.
