The best WordPress email-marketing setup depends on what you are trying to send. If you only want subscribers to receive new blog posts, WordPress.com’s built-in Newsletter feature or a self-hosted newsletter plugin may be enough. If you need lead nurturing, customer journeys, segmentation, or conditional automations, you need a WordPress CRM or marketing-automation plugin. If WordPress emails are failing or landing in spam, you need a properly authenticated SMTP or API delivery layer—not necessarily a new newsletter tool.
These are different layers that can work together:
- Publishing and subscriber management: WordPress.com Newsletter or a plugin such as MailPoet.
- CRM and automation: a plugin such as FluentCRM.
- Message transport: an SMTP or API connector such as WP Mail SMTP.
- Outbound delivery: an email service provider such as Amazon Simple Email Service, SendGrid, Brevo, or another supported provider.
Start with the smallest stack that meets your actual need. A blogger should not pay for a complex CRM just to email new posts, while a store or lead-generation business should not rely on a basic post-notification feature for lifecycle marketing.

WordPress email marketing at a glance
| Your main goal | Best-fit setup | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Email subscribers whenever a post is published | WordPress.com Newsletter or a self-hosted newsletter plugin such as MailPoet | These tools are primarily publishing and list-management systems, not necessarily full CRMs. |
| Build a lead funnel with tags, sequences, and conditional follow-ups | A WordPress CRM and automation plugin such as FluentCRM, plus a reliable SMTP or API provider | More flexibility means more configuration, testing, and maintenance. |
| Send newsletters and WooCommerce marketing messages | MailPoet or FluentCRM with the relevant WooCommerce integration and delivery provider | Keep promotional campaigns separate from transactional receipts and order messages. |
| Fix WordPress messages that fail, arrive late, or go to spam | An SMTP/API delivery plugin such as WP Mail SMTP, connected to a reputable provider | SMTP improves the sending path but cannot guarantee inbox placement. |
| Send at higher volume or manage delivery reputation carefully | A dedicated email service provider such as Amazon SES, with domain authentication and suppression practices | You remain responsible for permission, authentication, complaints, bounces, and gradual volume growth. |
What WordPress email marketing actually includes
“WordPress email marketing” describes several jobs that are often mistakenly treated as one:
- Collecting subscribers: forms, pop-ups, navigation prompts, comment subscriptions, or checkout opt-ins.
- Managing contacts: lists, tags, consent records, unsubscribes, bounces, and preferences.
- Creating messages: newsletters, post notifications, welcome emails, promotional campaigns, and transactional messages.
- Automating follow-up: welcome sequences, lead nurturing, abandoned-cart reminders, purchase follow-ups, and other event-based journeys.
- Delivering mail: moving a message from WordPress to an email provider and then to the recipient’s mailbox.
- Measuring results: delivery, clicks, opens, unsubscribes, complaints, purchases, and other meaningful outcomes.
WordPress can generate an email through its standard wp_mail() function, but generating a message is not the same as delivering it reliably. The WordPress developer documentation explains that SMTP or a mail API may be needed instead of PHP mail, including when a different sending port or authenticated transport is required.

- Compact Mouse: With a comfortable and contoured shape, this Logitech ambidextrous wireless mouse feels great in either right or left hand and is far superior to a touchpad
- Durable and Reliable: This USB wireless mouse features a line-by-line scroll wheel, up to 1 year of battery life (2) thanks to a smart sleep mode function, and comes with the included AA battery
- Universal Compatibility: Your Logitech mouse works with your Windows PC, Mac, or laptop, so no matter what type of computer you own today or buy tomorrow your mouse will be compatible
- Plug and Play Simplicity: Just plug in the tiny nano USB receiver and start working in seconds with a strong, reliable connection to your wireless computer mouse up to 33 feet / 10 m (5)
- Better than touchpad: Get more done by adding M185 to your laptop; according to a recent study, laptop users who chose this mouse over a touchpad were 50% more productive (3) and worked 30% faster (4)
This distinction matters financially. Buying a newsletter plugin will not automatically fix a domain-authentication problem, and installing an SMTP plugin will not create a subscriber database, consent workflow, or marketing sequence.
Choose the right WordPress email-marketing model
1. WordPress.com Newsletter: best for post-to-email publishing
Every WordPress.com site includes a Newsletter capability that lets readers subscribe and receive email notifications when new posts are published. It is the most straightforward choice when your primary workflow is “publish an article and notify subscribers.”
The feature supports unlimited subscribers, subscriber imports, test emails, open and click statistics, scheduled posts and their related email notifications, paid subscriptions, double opt-in, and unsubscribe functionality. Subscription prompts can be added with the Subscribe block, pop-ups, overlays, navigation elements, and comment-related subscription options.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The publishing workflow is closely connected to WordPress posts. When a post is published, subscribers can receive its notification. When a post is scheduled, its email notification can be sent when the post goes live. Depending on the site’s setup, content can be made available to everyone, subscribers, or paid subscribers.
WordPress.com also provides controls for default email behavior, subscription placement, comment subscriptions, welcome-email customization, sender name, reply-to address, and email content. Subscribers who do not have a WordPress.com account may be asked to complete a confirmation step.
Choose this model if:
- Your list mainly exists to receive new articles.
- You want the fewest technical components.
- You are already hosted on WordPress.com.
- You do not need complex lead scoring, branching sequences, or a CRM-style contact history.
Do not assume it replaces a dedicated marketing platform. WordPress.com’s built-in feature is strong for publishing notifications, subscriber management, paid newsletters, and basic engagement statistics. The official documentation does not position it as a complete CRM-style automation stack.
2. MailPoet: best for newsletter management inside self-hosted WordPress
For a self-hosted WordPress site, MailPoet is a direct fit when you want to create, send, manage, and grow campaigns from the WordPress dashboard. It combines subscription forms, subscriber lists, newsletter composition, automatic new-post notifications, welcome emails, segmentation, templates, and analytics.
Recommended Free Tools
MailPoet supports multiple form placements and can connect email marketing to WooCommerce activity. Its documented commerce-related capabilities include abandoned-cart messages, first-purchase and other purchase-related automations, product and order-status emails, and review-related messages. Google Analytics integration is also documented for campaign tracking.
The official WordPress.org listing has recorded a large active installation base and a free starting plan, but plan features, sending-service availability, version numbers, and WordPress compatibility change. Verify the current listing and pricing before choosing it for a production site.
MailPoet also illustrates why the newsletter layer and delivery layer should be evaluated separately. You may be able to send through your host, SendGrid, Amazon SES, another SMTP provider, or MailPoet’s own Sending Service. MailPoet warns that relying on ordinary web hosting for bulk sending can create speed and spam-folder problems, and its delivery guidance includes SPF and DKIM authentication.
Choose MailPoet if:
- You want newsletter design and subscriber management in the WordPress dashboard.
- Automatic new-post emails are important.
- You need welcome emails and basic segmentation without building a separate CRM.
- You operate a WooCommerce store and want documented abandoned-cart and purchase-related email workflows.
It is usually a better fit than a full automation CRM for a creator or small shop whose email strategy is newsletter-led rather than journey-led.
3. FluentCRM: best for WordPress-native lead nurturing and automation
FluentCRM is aimed at readers who need more than a newsletter broadcast. It functions as a self-hosted email-marketing automation and CRM plugin with contact records, lists, tags, campaigns, sequences, automation flows, reports, forms, webhooks, and integrations.
Its documented integrations include WooCommerce and learning-management systems, making it relevant to businesses selling products, courses, memberships, or services. Instead of merely sending an email whenever a post is published, you can use contact attributes, tags, list membership, purchases, form submissions, or other events to determine what should happen next.
FluentCRM sends campaigns, sequences, and automation messages through WordPress’s email-delivery system. An additional SMTP plugin, including FluentSMTP, can extend that delivery layer. Campaigns should be sent only to contacts who have opted in to receive marketing messages.

Email creation uses Gutenberg-based composition, reusable templates, dynamic tags or smart codes, previews, and test emails. Test carefully: email rendering can vary among webmail, desktop, and mobile clients. A design that looks correct in the editor or one inbox may not appear identically everywhere.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsGlobal email settings include sender identity, sender address, footer information, preference-management behavior, and related compliance controls. The sending address should match the domain and SMTP configuration used to send the message. A mismatch can damage deliverability and make the email look less trustworthy.
Choose FluentCRM if:
- You need lead-nurturing sequences rather than only broadcasts.
- You want lists, tags, contact records, and conditional automation in WordPress.
- You need to connect forms, WooCommerce, courses, webhooks, or other events to follow-up campaigns.
- You are prepared to configure and maintain the sending infrastructure.
For a simple blog, FluentCRM may be more system than you need. For a business with multiple customer journeys, it can be more appropriate than a basic newsletter plugin.
4. SMTP and API delivery: best for fixing the sending path
An SMTP or API plugin does not replace your subscriber list or marketing software. It changes how WordPress hands messages to an email provider.
WP Mail SMTP is a prominent delivery-focused option in the official WordPress.org directory. Its documented purpose is to reconfigure WordPress email to use an SMTP provider or provider API. Features listed for the plugin include setup assistance, email logs, reports, alerts, backup connections, conditional routing, rate limiting, and queueing.
It supports providers including SendLayer, SMTP.com, Brevo, Gmail, Mailgun, Mailjet, SendGrid, Postmark, Amazon SES, Microsoft 365, and Zoho. Provider availability and plugin features can change, so check the current documentation before committing to a specific integration.
Use an SMTP/API connector when:
- Contact-form messages never arrive.
- WooCommerce notifications are delayed or missing.
- WordPress is using unreliable PHP mail.
- You need delivery logs to identify failures.
- You want to route different types of email through different connections.
- You need queueing or rate controls for a larger sending workload.
An SMTP plugin is not a complete email-marketing platform. It does not, by itself, provide permission-based list growth, campaign design, segmentation, automation, or a compliant unsubscribe system.
A practical WordPress email-marketing setup
Step 1: Separate your message types
Before installing anything, classify the messages you plan to send:
- Post notifications: an article or update is published and subscribers are notified.
- Marketing newsletters: educational or promotional messages sent to opted-in contacts.
- Automated marketing: welcome series, lead nurturing, abandoned-cart reminders, and purchase follow-ups.
- Transactional messages: receipts, password resets, account notices, shipping updates, and other messages triggered by a transaction or account event.
Do not treat a promotional newsletter and a transaction receipt as interchangeable. Keeping promotional and transactional streams separate where possible makes consent, reporting, troubleshooting, and reputation management clearer.

Use WordPress.com Newsletter for a WordPress.com publishing-focused site. On self-hosted WordPress, start with MailPoet if you primarily need forms, newsletters, post notifications, welcome emails, and subscriber management. Choose FluentCRM when the central problem is lifecycle marketing—such as moving a lead through several conditional follow-ups.
Then decide how messages will leave WordPress. Some newsletter tools include or offer a sending service. Others use your host, an SMTP provider, or an API. Treat that decision as a separate evaluation rather than assuming the plugin’s marketing features determine the best delivery provider.
Step 3: Authenticate the sending domain before launch
Configure the records requested by your email provider:
- SPF: identifies authorized sending infrastructure.
- DKIM: applies a cryptographic signature to outgoing messages.
- DMARC: tells receiving providers how to handle authentication failures and helps align the visible From domain with authenticated sending.
- DNS: should be valid and consistent, including forward and reverse DNS where required by the provider.
- TLS: should be used for the connection to the provider.
Do not copy a generic SPF record from an unrelated tutorial. SPF syntax and provider values are provider-specific, and multiple SPF records can create problems. Follow the current instructions from the provider you actually use.

Step 4: Create a permission-based subscription path
Your form should explain what the subscriber will receive and how often. Use an unchecked marketing option when a separate consent choice is needed; do not rely on a pre-checked box. Keep the marketing purpose distinct from an account or checkout requirement where the law or your business process requires that distinction.
Record enough information to demonstrate the subscription: the form or page, the wording shown, the date and time, and the applicable consent context. A double-opt-in confirmation can help verify that the address belongs to the person who submitted it, but it does not make an otherwise misleading acquisition process lawful.
Do not buy an email list. A list seller’s claim that people “agreed to marketing” does not necessarily establish consent for your specific organization, brand, or email method.

Set a real sender name, a monitored reply-to address, a valid From address, and a footer containing your business identity, physical postal address, and unsubscribe or preference-management controls.
Do not use a deceptive subject line or a sender identity that makes the recipient guess who sent the message. Every marketing email should make it easy to stop receiving future messages.
Step 6: Build one useful automation before adding many
A sensible first sequence is:
- Send a confirmation or welcome message appropriate to the subscription process.
- Explain what the reader subscribed to and set expectations for frequency.
- Deliver one useful resource or article.
- Offer a relevant next step, such as a guide, product, consultation, or course.
- Stop or change the sequence when the contact unsubscribes, hard-bounces, or completes the intended action.
For a WooCommerce store, possible journeys include an abandoned-cart reminder, a post-purchase education sequence, a product-specific follow-up, or a review request. Promotional automation should not be quietly attached to a receipt unless the recipient has the appropriate marketing relationship or consent.
Step 7: Preview and test
Send test messages before activating a campaign. Check the subject line, preheader, sender identity, links, images, mobile layout, unsubscribe path, preference page, personalization fields, and fallback text when a dynamic tag has no value.
Test in more than one mailbox and at least one mobile and desktop environment. FluentCRM’s documentation notes that rendering can vary across clients, so do not promise identical appearance everywhere.
Also test operational outcomes: does a new subscriber enter the intended list, does an unsubscribe suppress future campaigns, does a hard bounce stop future delivery, and does a purchase trigger only the automations it should?
Step 8: Launch gradually and monitor the right signals
Start with engaged subscribers rather than sending your entire database at once. Increase volume gradually, avoid sudden spikes, suppress hard bounces, honor unsubscribes, and monitor complaints and provider responses.
Open rates can be useful as one directional signal, but they should not be your only measure. Track clicks, replies, unsubscribes, complaints, bounces, conversions, and revenue where appropriate. The goal is not merely to generate an “open”; it is to reach people who asked for the message and produce a useful outcome without damaging future deliverability.

Gmail’s sender requirements and deliverability checklist
Google’s current sender guidance for messages to personal Gmail accounts says all senders must use SPF or DKIM, valid forward and reverse DNS, TLS, properly formatted messages, and acceptable spam rates.
For senders delivering more than 5,000 messages per day to Gmail accounts, Google requires additional measures including SPF and DKIM, a published DMARC policy, alignment between the From domain and SPF or DKIM, and one-click unsubscribe for marketing and subscribed messages.
These requirements do not mean that installing an SMTP plugin guarantees the inbox. Gmail explicitly warns that third-party providers cannot guarantee passage through its spam filters. Authentication, sender reputation, complaints, sending patterns, message content, and recipient engagement all matter.

Amazon SES for WordPress delivery
Amazon Simple Email Service can serve as the outbound delivery provider for a WordPress site, but it is infrastructure—not a substitute for a newsletter database, consent process, or automation tool.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
AWS documents a WordPress-on-Lightsail setup path that includes creating SMTP credentials, verifying a domain and sender identities, and configuring WP Mail SMTP. AWS also documents command-line testing of the SES SMTP interface to validate connectivity and troubleshoot the sending path.
Amazon SES is most relevant when:
- You are comfortable configuring DNS and provider credentials.
- You need a dedicated SMTP or API delivery service.
- You want to separate WordPress campaign logic from outbound delivery.
- You are prepared to monitor bounces, complaints, authentication, and reputation.
SES does not remove your responsibility for permission-based sending, compliant content, suppression lists, or Gmail and other mailbox-provider requirements. A technically successful SMTP test only proves that the connection works; it does not prove that campaigns will reach the inbox.
Troubleshooting: find the layer that is failing
WordPress says the message sent, but nobody receives it
Check the WordPress or marketing-plugin logs first. Then verify whether the message was handed to an SMTP/API provider. If WordPress is relying on PHP mail or a host’s shared mail transport, configure an authenticated SMTP or API connection and send a controlled test.
If test messages work after changing the transport, the original problem was likely the WordPress-to-provider handoff rather than the newsletter content.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Messages arrive, but they land in spam
Check SPF, DKIM, DMARC alignment, From-domain consistency, TLS, DNS, complaint rates, bounce suppression, list source, sending frequency, and sudden volume changes. An SMTP plugin can improve authentication and routing, but it cannot repair a purchased list or poor sender reputation.
Some recipients receive messages and others do not
Inspect provider responses and bounce categories. One provider may reject a message because of authentication or policy while another accepts it. Check whether the affected addresses are unsubscribed, suppressed, hard-bounced, or blocked by a provider-specific rule.
Automations send the wrong message
Review the trigger, list and tag conditions, timing, exit rules, and dynamic fields. Test with a small internal group before enabling a customer-wide automation. For WooCommerce workflows, verify whether the trigger is an order, payment, product, status change, review, or cart event; these are not interchangeable.
Messages are delayed
Check queueing, rate limits, provider quotas, campaign size, and host resources. A queue can prevent a site from trying to send thousands of messages in one request, but it also means delivery may happen over time rather than immediately.
CAN-SPAM, UK PECR, and consent responsibilities
This article is not legal advice, and the applicable rules depend on the sender, recipient, message, location, and business relationship. The technical tools do not make a campaign legally compliant by themselves.
U.S. CAN-SPAM baseline
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission says CAN-SPAM applies to commercial email, including email that promotes content on a commercial website. It does not have to be bulk email or business-to-consumer email to fall within the rules.
Key requirements include:
- Accurate header information.
- Non-deceptive subject lines.
- Clear identification of advertisements where applicable.
- A valid physical postal address.
- A functioning opt-out mechanism.
- Prompt processing of opt-out requests.
Hiring an email platform or agency does not transfer all responsibility away from the business. The FTC states that both the company whose product or service is promoted and the company that sends the message may have responsibility.
UK and European-facing campaigns
The UK Information Commissioner’s Office explains that the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations apply to people who send or instigate direct marketing by electronic mail. For individual subscribers, consent is generally required unless a qualifying soft opt-in applies.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

Consent should be specific, informed, unambiguous, based on a positive action, and recorded. A bought-in list is not automatically lawful: consent must cover the specific organization and specific electronic-mail method, and the sender must be able to demonstrate who consented, when, and how.

For an internationally oriented WordPress site, collect consent directly through clearly labeled forms, avoid preselected marketing boxes, record the consent context, and maintain a suppression or do-not-contact list. Treat compliance as an ongoing operating process rather than a checkbox in a plugin.
How much should a WordPress email-marketing stack cost?
Do not compare tools by plugin price alone. The real cost can include:
- The WordPress plan or hosting required for your site.
- A newsletter or CRM plugin license, if advanced features are paid.
- Email-provider charges based on sending volume or contacts.
- Domain and DNS configuration.
- Technical setup and deliverability monitoring.
- Design, copywriting, analytics, and ongoing list maintenance.
- The cost of switching later if your list and automations become difficult to export.
A lean creator setup may use WordPress.com Newsletter or a free starting tier of a self-hosted newsletter plugin. A small business may justify a CRM and automation tool when follow-up directly supports leads or sales. A store should evaluate the value of abandoned-cart and post-purchase workflows rather than choosing the cheapest broadcast tool.

Recommended setups by use case
Blogger or creator sending post updates
Use WordPress.com Newsletter if the site is hosted on WordPress.com and the main requirement is automatic post-to-email publishing. On self-hosted WordPress, use MailPoet when you also want subscription forms, newsletter composition, welcome emails, and list management inside the dashboard.
Small business building a lead funnel
Connect a clearly labeled WordPress form or landing page to a marketing platform or CRM. FluentCRM is relevant when you want WordPress-native contact records, sequences, tags, and conditional automations. Add a properly configured SMTP or API delivery layer and test the full path from form submission to final email.
WooCommerce store
Choose a tool that understands commerce events. MailPoet documents abandoned-cart, first-purchase, product, order-status, and review-related email capabilities. FluentCRM documents WooCommerce integrations and reporting. Keep promotional messages distinct from receipts and other transactional messages, and confirm that the recipient has the necessary marketing permission.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSite with unreliable WordPress email
Start with transport troubleshooting rather than replacing the whole marketing stack. Use an SMTP/API plugin such as WP Mail SMTP or another established connector, select a provider, authenticate the domain, inspect logs, send controlled tests, and review provider responses.
Higher-volume or reputation-sensitive sender
Use a dedicated provider such as Amazon SES or another established SMTP/API service, but treat authentication, suppression, complaint monitoring, gradual ramp-up, and compliance as part of the system. The provider is not a shortcut around those responsibilities.
What not to buy or assume
- Do not buy an email list.
- Do not assume WordPress itself is a complete email-marketing platform in every configuration.
- Do not assume SMTP guarantees inbox placement.
- Do not assume a plugin’s “GDPR compliant” marketing statement makes your entire campaign compliant.
- Do not describe transactional receipts and promotional newsletters as the same kind of email.
- Do not use current installation counts, plugin versions, plan limits, or prices without checking and date-stamping them.
- Do not claim deliverability, open-rate, or conversion results without a documented test.
- Do not buy unrelated physical equipment or generic marketing books simply to add a product recommendation. The central products in this topic are software and online services.
A final pre-launch checklist
- Have you defined whether the email is transactional, editorial, or promotional?
- Does the subscription form explain what the reader will receive?
- Are marketing boxes unchecked by default where a separate affirmative choice is needed?
- Can you show when and how each contact subscribed?
- Are SPF and DKIM configured, with DMARC added where appropriate?
- Does the visible From domain align with authenticated sending?
- Is TLS enabled?
- Does every marketing message include a working unsubscribe path?
- Are hard bounces and unsubscribes automatically suppressed?
- Have you tested the message in multiple inboxes and on mobile?
- Have you tested the automation’s trigger and exit conditions?
- Do you have access to delivery logs and provider responses?
- Will you begin with engaged contacts and increase volume gradually?
Frequently Asked Questions
Is WordPress itself an email-marketing platform?
Not by itself. WordPress can generate messages through wp_mail(), but a complete system normally needs subscriber management, campaign or automation features, and a reliable SMTP or API delivery path. WordPress.com includes a built-in Newsletter feature, while self-hosted sites usually assemble these layers with plugins and providers.
Do I need an SMTP plugin for WordPress email marketing?
Not always, but you need a dependable delivery method. Some newsletter tools include or offer a sending service; others use your host or an external provider. An SMTP/API plugin can improve routing, authentication, logging, queueing, and troubleshooting, but it does not replace list management or automation.
Should I choose MailPoet or FluentCRM?
Choose MailPoet when your priority is newsletters, subscription forms, automatic post notifications, welcome emails, and WooCommerce email marketing inside WordPress. Choose FluentCRM when you need contact records, tags, sequences, conditional automations, webhooks, or more advanced lead and customer journeys.
Does SMTP guarantee that emails will reach Gmail inboxes?
No. SMTP or API delivery can improve the WordPress-to-provider connection, but inbox placement also depends on SPF, DKIM, DMARC, DNS, TLS, sender reputation, complaints, bounces, message quality, volume patterns, and recipient engagement. Gmail does not guarantee inbox placement for messages sent through third-party providers.
Can I import an existing email list into WordPress?
Many tools support subscriber imports, but import only contacts for whom you can demonstrate a valid permission or marketing relationship. Never use a purchased list. Keep the source, wording, date, and applicable consent context, and preserve a suppression list for people who opted out.
Are WooCommerce receipts and marketing emails the same?
No. Receipts, password resets, shipping notices, and account messages are generally transactional, while newsletters, promotions, abandoned-cart reminders, and product offers are marketing or may contain marketing content. Separate the streams where possible and apply the appropriate consent and unsubscribe rules.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Match the tool to the job. Use WordPress.com Newsletter or MailPoet for post notifications and straightforward newsletters; use FluentCRM for WordPress-native segmentation and automation; use WP Mail SMTP or another connector when the delivery path is unreliable; and consider Amazon SES or another dedicated provider when you need separate, scalable outbound infrastructure. Whichever stack you choose, domain authentication, permission-based list growth, suppression, testing, and reputation monitoring matter more than the plugin name alone.
