Which iPhones Support Apple Intelligence? Compatible Models and Requirements (2026)

Apple Intelligence works on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 models or later. A compatible model is only the first check: you also need the required iOS release, at least 7 GB of available device storage, matching device and Siri languages, and access in your region. Apple warns that individual features can vary by language, platform, and country.

The short answer

Apple’s current compatibility guidance sets the iPhone threshold at the iPhone 15 Pro generation. That means the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are supported. Apple also lists iPhone 16 models and later.

The regular iPhone 15 is not included in Apple’s listed Apple Intelligence threshold. The distinction is the model tier, not simply the year in which the phone was released. If you bought an iPhone 15, check whether the name in Settings says “Pro” or “Pro Max” before assuming it is compatible.

Apple’s general requirements page is the primary reference for hardware, software, storage, language, and regional conditions: How to get Apple Intelligence. Its iPhone user guide provides the current iOS 27 compatibility wording: Get started with Apple Intelligence on your iPhone.

Which iPhone models are supported?

iPhone model group Apple’s compatibility wording Apple Intelligence status What to verify
iPhone 15 Pro Explicitly listed Supported, subject to software, storage, language, and regional requirements Confirm the model is Pro rather than the standard iPhone 15
iPhone 15 Pro Max Explicitly listed Supported, subject to software, storage, language, and regional requirements Confirm the full model name in Settings
iPhone 16 models Included in “iPhone 16 models or later” Supported, subject to the same conditions Install the required iOS release and check available storage
iPhone models released after the iPhone 16 family Included by Apple’s “or later” wording Supported in principle under Apple’s current list Check Apple’s latest requirements if a newer model or feature has launched
Standard iPhone 15 Not included in Apple’s listed threshold Not supported for Apple Intelligence An accessory, repair, or software update cannot add the required hardware support

Apple’s wording identifies families rather than providing a guarantee that every future feature will behave identically across them. Model eligibility gets you past the hardware gate; it does not promise every Apple Intelligence capability in every language or region.

How to check whether your iPhone is one of the supported models

Marketing names, storage capacity, case designs, and colors do not reliably identify compatibility. Use the model name recorded by iOS:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap About.
  4. Read the Model Name field.
  5. Compare the complete name with Apple’s list: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later.

If the field says only “iPhone 15,” it is the standard model and is below Apple’s published Apple Intelligence threshold. If you are checking a newer phone whose name is unfamiliar, use Apple’s current support page rather than inferring eligibility from the number alone.

Requirements beyond the model number

Install the applicable iOS version

Apple’s general support page lists iOS 18.1 or later, which reflects the minimum software requirement associated with the initial Apple Intelligence rollout. Apple’s current iPhone guide describes Apple Intelligence on iOS 27 or later. These statements serve different points in the product’s timeline: iOS 18.1 established the original minimum, while the current guide tells users to follow the newer release guidance for today’s feature set.

To see your installed version, go to Settings > General > Software Update. Install the newest release offered for your supported iPhone, then restart if iOS requests it. A phone that meets the hardware threshold but remains on an older release may not show the Apple Intelligence controls or may lack newer features.

Reserve at least 7 GB of device storage

Apple lists 7 GB of on-device storage for Apple Intelligence. This space is used for downloaded models and related system resources, so it is separate from the phone’s advertised total capacity. To inspect available space, open Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

If you are short on space, remove or offload large apps, downloaded videos, old message attachments, or duplicate photos. Do not assume that iCloud capacity substitutes for the local requirement: Apple’s condition is free storage on the iPhone itself.

Use a supported language consistently

The iPhone’s device language and Siri language must be set to the same supported language. Apple says that changing Siri’s language can temporarily make Apple Intelligence unavailable while the new language downloads and catches up with the device language.

Check both settings under Settings > General > Language & Region and Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. Choose a language Apple currently supports, apply the same choice to the device and Siri, and allow the language files to finish downloading. A mixed setup—such as one language for the interface and another for Siri—can prevent activation even on eligible hardware.

Account for country and feature availability

Apple states that availability varies by platform, language, and region. In other words, a supported iPhone does not guarantee that every feature is enabled where you live. Apple also identifies restrictions for supported devices in mainland China under the conditions described on its requirements page.

When a feature is missing, check the regional and language conditions before treating the phone as incompatible. Availability can change as Apple expands language support or clears regional requirements, so use the current Apple support documentation for your location.

How to turn on Apple Intelligence

After confirming the model and prerequisites, use Apple’s current settings path:

  1. Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi and, ideally, a power source. Apple says this helps the required models download more quickly.
  2. Update iOS at Settings > General > Software Update.
  3. Open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  4. Turn on Apple Intelligence when the option appears.
  5. Keep the phone connected while the on-device models download. The time required depends on the connection and the amount of data to install.

If the switch is not visible immediately after an update, leave the phone on Wi-Fi and power for a while, then return to the same settings page. Confirm that the language, storage, and region conditions are satisfied before repeating the update.

What “supported” does—and does not—mean

Hardware eligibility is a prerequisite, not a feature-by-feature promise

Apple Intelligence features rely on capabilities that Apple has reserved for the listed hardware generations. That is why the standard iPhone 15 does not become compatible through iOS alone. The 15 Pro models are the earliest iPhones on Apple’s general list, followed by the iPhone 16 family and later generations.

Even within that group, Apple can release a feature on one platform, language, or region before another. Some functions may also require a particular iOS revision. Read “supported iPhone” as “eligible to use Apple Intelligence when the other conditions are met,” not as a promise that every function is available immediately.

Separate Siri AI wording from the general Apple Intelligence list

Apple maintains a separate Siri AI support page that explicitly mentions iPhone Air alongside iPhone 15 Pro models and iPhone 16 models or later. That is feature-specific Siri wording. It should not be substituted for Apple’s broader Apple Intelligence compatibility guidance without checking the particular feature you want. The separate page is available at How to get Siri AI.

Common model questions

Can the regular iPhone 15 get Apple Intelligence?

No. Apple’s published threshold starts with iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 15 is not on that list. Updating it to the newest compatible iOS release cannot add hardware capabilities that Apple requires for Apple Intelligence.

Does the iPhone 15 Pro have Apple Intelligence?

Yes, provided it is updated to the applicable iOS version, has the required local storage, uses matching supported device and Siri languages, and is in a region where the requested features are available.

Will Apple Intelligence work on an iPhone 16?

Apple includes iPhone 16 models and later in its compatibility wording. Complete the software update, storage, language, and regional checks before troubleshooting an individual feature.

Do cases, chargers, or replacement parts make an unsupported iPhone compatible?

No. Accessories and repairs can affect usability or battery life, but they do not add the hardware Apple requires. Compatibility is determined by the iPhone model and Apple’s software and availability conditions.

Troubleshooting when Apple Intelligence is missing

The phone is eligible, but the setting does not appear

  • Recheck Settings > General > About > Model Name to rule out a standard iPhone 15.
  • Install the newest iOS update offered under Settings > General > Software Update.
  • Verify that at least 7 GB is free in Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
  • Make the device and Siri languages identical and supported.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi and power so the on-device models can download.

The download appears stuck

Keep the iPhone connected to reliable Wi-Fi and a charger, avoid repeatedly changing language settings, and leave enough local storage for the model files. After the download completes, return to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. If the option remains absent, check Apple’s current regional and language availability rather than deleting system data or installing unofficial software.

Only some features are available

That can be normal. Apple says availability differs by platform, language, and region, and individual features may also depend on the iOS release. Confirm the specific feature’s requirements and the language in which you are trying to use it.

What to do if your iPhone is unsupported

If your model is not on Apple’s list, there is no settings change that can make it eligible. The practical choices are to continue using the phone without Apple Intelligence or consider a supported iPhone 16 model or later. Compare the exact model, storage capacity, warranty, and current price before upgrading; Apple’s compatibility documentation does not establish retailer inventory or pricing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a personal-finance decision, treat Apple Intelligence as one feature in the total cost of ownership. Include the purchase price, trade-in value, remaining useful life of your current phone, and any additional storage you would need. Do not buy an accessory or repair solely on the expectation that it will unlock Apple Intelligence.

Bottom line on iPhone compatibility

The earliest iPhones Apple lists are the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple also includes iPhone 16 models and later. The regular iPhone 15 is below the listed threshold. On an eligible model, install the applicable iOS release, keep at least 7 GB free, match the device and Siri languages, and check regional availability before concluding that Apple Intelligence is unavailable.
