Where to Find Official Bulk and Block Deal Disclosures in India (NSE and BSE)

Use the exchange that published the trade. For NSE, the public starting point is the Bulk Deals/ Block Deals/ Short Selling Archives page, which provides symbol and date controls plus a CSV download. NSE also posts daily files on its All Reports page. For BSE, the official route given in its FAQ is Home → Markets → Equity → Historical Data → Bulk Deals / Block Deals; the route is described in BSE’s Block Deal FAQ.

Check both exchanges if you need market-wide coverage, and select the correct category and trade date. Bulk and block deals are different disclosures: a bulk-deal disclosure is triggered when total quantity exceeds 0.5% of a company’s listed equity shares, while block-window order rules govern how a qualifying negotiated trade is executed. A report records transaction details; it does not prove why a client traded or predict the stock’s next move.

Which official pages contain the records?

NSE: the archive and daily report files

NSE’s investor-facing archive is titled “Bulk Deals/ Block Deals/ Short Selling Archives.” Open the archive page and choose the deal category, symbol (where applicable), and date or date range. The page offers a downloadable CSV, which is useful when you need to sort, filter, or preserve a larger set of records.

For the latest daily files, use NSE All Reports. Its Capital Market listings separate “Bulk Deals (csv)” and “Block Deals (csv),” so download the file that matches the event you are investigating rather than assuming one report combines both categories.

NSE’s Daily Market Reports – Capital Market page is another official entry point. Its historical-report controls link back to the same family of bulk, block, and short-selling archives. If a bookmark becomes stale, start from the current NSE navigation or All Reports page instead of relying on an old URL.

BSE: the historical-data menu

BSE’s official FAQ gives this navigation path: Home → Markets → Equity → Historical Data → Bulk Deals / Block Deals. The route is documented in the BSE Block Deal FAQ. BSE’s 29 April 2025 Equity Segment Master Circular also identifies a Bulk Deal page and explains the disclosure rule; see the BSE circular.

BSE pages may change labels or become temporarily unavailable. The FAQ and circular route is official, but verify the live menu and date controls when you visit. If a direct page returns an access error, use the BSE home page and follow the menu path manually; do not substitute a third-party list for the exchange record.

NSE and BSE records are not interchangeable

Each exchange maintains its own reports. A company listed on both venues can have a disclosed transaction on NSE, BSE, or both, and one exchange’s archive does not establish complete coverage of the other. For a market-wide search, run the same date and symbol check separately on both exchanges.

What “bulk deal” means in the official disclosure rule

The rule reproduced in NSE’s circular on disclosure of trade details says a bulk-deal disclosure applies when the total shares bought or sold in a scrip are more than 0.5% of the company’s equity shares listed on the stock exchange. The broker reports the scrip, client name, quantity, and traded price, and the exchange disseminates the information publicly after market hours on the same day. Read the rule in NSE’s disclosure circular.

The percentage is calculated against listed equity shares, not against the day’s trading volume and not against the company’s market capitalisation. “More than 0.5%” is a disclosure trigger; it is not a statement that the trade changed control, represented an investment thesis, or involved a particular type of investor.

Fields to capture from a bulk-deal row

  • Trade date: the session in which the transaction was reported.
  • Scrip or symbol: the security identifier used by that exchange.
  • Client: the name disclosed in the report.
  • Quantity: shares bought or sold.
  • Traded price: the price reported for the transaction.
  • Buy or sell side: preserve the direction exactly as displayed.

Use the row as a factual transaction record. The fields do not include a client’s reason for trading, financing arrangements, holding period, or expected price target.

How block deals differ from bulk deals

“Block deal” describes a separate exchange mechanism and disclosure category. It should not be treated as a synonym for a bulk deal merely because both can involve a large number of shares. Select “Block Deals” rather than “Bulk Deals” in the archive, and keep separate notes for each category.

Block-window execution parameters can change

NSE’s circular dated 20 November 2025 changed the block trading session parameters effective 8 December 2025. The minimum order size increased from ₹10 crore to ₹25 crore, and the permitted price range changed from ±1% to up to ±3% of the applicable reference price. The range remains subject to surveillance requirements and the normal-market price band. The operative document is NSE’s Block Trading Session Update.

These figures describe execution in the block window. They are not the bulk-deal disclosure threshold, and they do not tell you where to download the public record. For any later period, check the newest exchange circular because trading parameters can be amended.

A practical workflow for finding a disclosure

  1. Identify the venue. Confirm whether the company trades on NSE, BSE, or both. If you are unsure, plan to check both official archives.
  2. Choose the category. Decide whether you need Bulk Deals or Block Deals. Do not search only one category when the question concerns all large negotiated activity.
  3. Set the trade date. Start with the date of the market session, not the date on which you happened to read a news article. For a period review, use the archive’s date-range controls where available.
  4. Filter the security. On NSE, enter the symbol when you are tracing one company; leave the symbol broad when you need every disclosed transaction for a day.
  5. Download and preserve the file. On NSE, use the CSV download from the archive or All Reports page. Keep the original filename and date so later calculations can be audited.
  6. Repeat on the other exchange. A complete cross-venue check requires a separate BSE lookup even when NSE already shows a matching company or client.
  7. Record the source context. Note the exchange, report type, trade date, quantity, price, and whether the row came from a daily file or a historical archive.

Reading NSE’s archive and CSV without mixing categories

Use the on-page controls for a focused lookup

For one company and a short period, the NSE archive’s symbol and date controls are faster than downloading every daily report. Select the report type first, then set the date range and symbol. Check that the returned date is the trade date you intended; an empty result can mean the wrong category or date rather than no activity anywhere.

Use CSV files for repeatable analysis

For multiple companies or months of data, download the CSV files from the archive or All Reports. Keep bulk and block files in separate folders or add a report-type column before combining them. Normalize dates and numeric fields only after retaining the original values, because the exchange file is your reference record.

Do not confuse public archives with member reporting

NSE circulars also describe broker and member Extranet reporting, including correction workflows. Those operational screens are not the investor-facing archive. The public pages above are where readers retrieve disseminated trade records; a broker’s internal reporting process is a different system. The distinction is described in NSE’s automation circular.

Finding and validating a BSE result

Follow the documented menu path

From BSE’s home page, open Markets, choose Equity, then Historical Data, and select Bulk Deals or Block Deals. Enter the available date and security filters, and save the displayed record with its exchange and report type. Because BSE can revise navigation labels, use the current page’s instructions rather than copying an old deep link.

When the page is unavailable

A blocked or failing page is not evidence that no deal occurred. Retry through the home-page menu, check the date and category, and return later if the exchange is temporarily restricting access. For an auditable result, cite the BSE page or downloadable file itself; a search snippet or an aggregator should be treated only as a lead to verify on BSE.

What a disclosure can—and cannot—tell you

Reliable conclusions

  • A named client and the reported buy or sell quantity, price, and scrip were disseminated by the exchange.
  • The transaction belongs to the stated exchange, category, and trade date.
  • A bulk-deal row crossed the official “more than 0.5% of listed equity shares” disclosure criterion when reported under that rule.

Conclusions the row does not establish

  • Why the client traded or whether the position was strategic, financial, hedging-related, or an exit.
  • Whether the buyer still holds the shares after the reported transaction.
  • Whether the stock will rise or fall, or whether the trade is suitable for your portfolio.
  • Complete market activity across both exchanges when you checked only one venue or one deal category.

These limits follow from the fields disseminated under the official rule: transaction details are published, but motive and subsequent performance are not part of the disclosure itself.

Common mistakes and quick fixes

Mistake Why it causes an error Fix
Searching only NSE BSE maintains a separate record set. Repeat the lookup through BSE’s Equity → Historical Data path.
Using a bulk report for a block-deal question The categories are distinct. Select the matching report type and download both when the scope is “all deals.”
Calling ₹25 crore the bulk threshold It is NSE’s block-window minimum effective 8 December 2025. Keep it separate from the bulk disclosure rule of more than 0.5% of listed equity shares.
Assuming a missing row proves no trade happened The date, symbol, category, or exchange may be wrong; a page may also be temporarily unavailable. Check filters, the other category, the other exchange, and the current official page.
Inferring intent from the client name The disclosure does not include motive or future plans. Report only the disclosed fields and label any further interpretation as speculation.

Keeping the information current

Exchange interfaces and trading rules are maintained separately. Bookmark the current NSE archive and All Reports pages, but revisit the latest circular before relying on block-window parameters. NSE’s 20 November 2025 update took effect on 8 December 2025; a later circular could replace those figures.

For historical work, preserve the original CSV or page capture together with the exchange, category, and trade date. That practice prevents a later menu redesign from obscuring how you obtained a result and makes it easier to reconcile an NSE record with a separate BSE search.

Bottom line

Start with NSE’s Bulk Deals/ Block Deals/ Short Selling Archives or its All Reports CSV listings. Use BSE’s documented Home → Markets → Equity → Historical Data → Bulk Deals / Block Deals route for BSE transactions. Select the exchange, deal type, and trade date deliberately; then treat the disclosed quantity, price, and client as a transaction record—not as proof of motive or a forecast.
