If a mutual-fund folio is missing, shows the wrong name or PAN, or contains an old address, bank account or contact number, treat it as a record-reconciliation problem—not as proof that your units have disappeared. Obtain the latest statement, identify the exact field that is wrong, compare it with your current PAN, KYC and bank records, then submit the field-specific request to the fund house (AMC) or its registrar and transfer agent (RTA).
Keep the acknowledgement, request number and supporting documents. If the AMC or RTA does not resolve the issue after you have complained to it, escalate through SEBI’s SCORES grievance system.

Start by identifying what is actually wrong
A folio is the account record a mutual fund maintains for your investment. It usually contains the holder’s identity and contact data, tax and KYC information, bank mandates, nomination and transaction history. A display problem in a consolidated portal can make a folio appear missing even when the units remain recorded by the AMC or RTA.

Before submitting anything, download or request the latest account statement from each relevant AMC. Note the folio number, scheme names, holder order and the statement date. Make a checklist of every mismatch rather than sending a vague “please correct my folio” request.

- First holder, joint-holder or guardian name
- PAN, KYC status, date of birth, or date of incorporation
- Registered address, email address and mobile number
- Bank account number, account type, IFSC and payout mandate
- Signature, nomination, IDCW sub-option or power-of-attorney registration
- Statement-of-account versus demat holding format
If you share a screenshot with an AMC, adviser or support desk, mask PAN, bank-account numbers, folio numbers and other sensitive identifiers unless the recipient has specifically requested an unmasked document through a secure channel.
Find the correct record keeper and submission route
The operational record keeper is the AMC or its appointed RTA. A distributor, investment app or consolidated dashboard may display the holding, but it normally cannot amend the underlying folio record. Determine whether the investment is direct, distributor-held or linked to a demat account before choosing a form.

MF Central’s investor resources include a route for identifying inactive folios. Use it as a discovery and consolidation aid; the AMC or RTA remains the route for correcting the record.
Correct a name, PAN or KYC mismatch before transacting
KYC is mandatory for mutual-fund investing. AMFI’s current KYC guidance provides a KYC status check, AMC-specific KYC-modification links and forms. For additional KYC information, AMFI says an individual may submit a “KYC Change Request form” at a mutual-fund point of service.

Names and date-of-birth or incorporation details are validated against PAN and other official records. AMFI-hosted fund guidance in the 2025 Statement of Additional Information also explains that incomplete KYC can block financial and non-financial requests. A redemption, switch or bank change can therefore fail even when the units are visible.
When the official PAN record is wrong
- Correct the underlying PAN or other official identity record through the responsible government or authorized channel.
- Confirm that the KYC record reflects the corrected information.
- Submit the AMC/RTA’s folio correction or KYC-change request, quoting every affected folio and scheme.
- Attach the identity and address documents, photographs, signatures, attestations or other evidence specified for that request.
- Ask the AMC/RTA to confirm whether related folios should be consolidated after the correction.
When PAN is correct but the folio is not
Provide the current PAN/KYC evidence and the folio statement to the AMC/RTA and request a record reconciliation. Do not open a replacement folio merely to conceal a correctable data error. Ask first whether the existing folio can be corrected or consolidated, because creating another folio can split transaction history and complicate future servicing.
Update address, email or mobile number
Use the AMC/RTA change-of-details form, not an informal email alone. Specify the old and new value, list every folio affected and request written confirmation that the new email and mobile will be used for future statements and transaction alerts.

After submitting the change
- Keep a copy of the completed form and every attachment.
- Record the submission date, service centre or online reference number.
- Request the applicable service-level timeline rather than relying on a universal processing promise.
- Obtain a fresh statement or transaction-alert confirmation and check the spelling, contact values and holder order.
Change a bank mandate safely
Bank details control where redemption proceeds, dividends or other payouts are sent. AMFI states that bank details are mandatory in a purchase application, and investors may register additional bank accounts against a folio through a separate request. Fund controls can require a cancelled cheque, bank certification or other proof that links the account to the holder.
- Download the AMC/RTA’s designated bank-change or additional-bank-registration form.
- Enter the folio, scheme and exact account details, including account type and IFSC.
- Attach the required cancelled cheque, bank certificate or equivalent evidence. Ensure the name on the evidence matches the folio requirements.
- Submit through the permitted service centre, postal process or authenticated online route and retain the acknowledgement.
- Verify the updated mandate on a fresh statement before requesting a redemption, switch or payout.
If the old account is closed or a payout has failed, tell the AMC/RTA that fact explicitly and ask whether a separate reprocessing request is required. Do not assume that changing your bank details automatically reissues a returned payment.
Fix nomination, signature and other static folio fields
AMFI lists name, mobile number, email, status, signature, bank-account details, IDCW sub-option, nomination and power-of-attorney registration among static requests that may be submitted to the AMC or its registrar. These fields do not all use the same form or evidence.

Use the AMC/RTA’s nomination registration, change or cancellation form. Check nominee names, dates of birth, addresses, proportions and guardian details for a minor. Where the fund asks for witness signatures, attestations or identity documents, provide them exactly as specified. A nomination update can be rejected if the folio’s holder data is itself inconsistent, so resolve an identity mismatch first when the service centre directs you to do so.

Signature or power of attorney
Request the prescribed signature-update or power-of-attorney registration process. The AMC/RTA may require bank or identity verification, specimen signatures, attestation or an in-person check. Until the change is accepted, transaction instructions signed differently from the registered specimen can be held for verification.
IDCW sub-option and status fields
Use the scheme-specific service request and read whether the change applies prospectively, to a particular plan, or only to future declarations. Ask the AMC/RTA to state the effective date in its acknowledgement.

Start with the AMC/RTA, not the portal. Request a statement using every identifier available: PAN, registered email, mobile number, holder name and approximate transaction details. Compare the returned record with the consolidated view.

Common causes of a missing display
- The folio was registered under a different PAN, email or mobile number.
- Joint holders appear in a different order from the one used by the portal.
- A minor’s folio uses guardian information that is no longer current.
- The units are in demat form and therefore do not appear as a statement-of-account folio.
- The folio is inactive or has not been mapped to the consolidated service.
- The portal has a temporary data or authentication problem.
Check the AMC/RTA’s own statement and MF Central’s investor resources, including its inactive-folios route listed by SEBI. A portal display problem does not, by itself, prove that units are lost. If the AMC/RTA statement also omits a transaction, supply purchase confirmations, account statements, bank debits or distributor records and ask for a transaction-level investigation.

Prepare a complete correction request
A precise submission reduces back-and-forth. Include the following in one organised package:
- Full folio number, scheme name, plan and option, if shown on the statement
- All holders’ names and the order in which they are registered
- The exact field currently recorded and the exact replacement value
- The reason for the change, such as a PAN correction, marriage-related name change, address move or closed bank account
- Copies of the latest statement and the requested identity, address, bank or legal documents
- Your preferred contact details and any related service-request or transaction numbers
- A request for written confirmation and an updated statement after completion
Sign every page where required, use the same signature format as the registered holder unless the request is specifically a signature-change request, and submit only through a channel the AMC/RTA identifies as valid. Keep originals and send copies unless an original is expressly required; if an original is handed over, obtain a receipt describing it.
What to do if the AMC or RTA does not fix it
Escalate in stages. First write to the AMC/RTA’s designated investor-grievance contact. State the folio and scheme, the dates of your earlier submissions, the request or acknowledgement number, the precise correction sought and a list of attachments. Ask for the reason for any rejection and the specific document or form needed to cure it.

If the response is absent or unsatisfactory after you have approached the concerned company or intermediary, SEBI Investor guidance says you may lodge a complaint through SCORES, SEBI’s web-based centralized grievance redressal system. SEBI’s guidance references the September 20, 2023 grievance-redressal circular.
SCORES is a regulatory grievance channel; it does not replace the AMC/RTA’s correction form. Upload the prior complaint, acknowledgement, statements and correspondence, while redacting unnecessary financial identifiers. Describe the remedy you want—such as correction of a PAN-linked name, confirmation of a bank mandate or issuance of a complete statement—rather than simply alleging that the folio is missing.
