Then send a documented correction request to the organization that controls that record, keep the receipt or case number, and verify the updated entry. A simple data-entry error may follow an administrative correction route; a disagreement about ownership, boundaries, inheritance or legal title usually requires a separate survey, hearing, legal application or revenue proceeding.
Start by identifying the record that is actually wrong
“Land record” can describe several different datasets. A farm-management platform may store a crop declaration, a parcel identifier, acreage, planting date or operator name. A government land office may maintain the cadastral map, deed index, title register or tax record. An insurer, lender or subsidy agency can hold another copy. These systems may exchange data, but they are not automatically the same record.

Before filing anything, write down the service name, web address or office, account or application number, parcel or farm identifier, and the exact field that is incorrect. Ask the service’s help desk or local officer whether it owns the underlying record or merely displays information supplied by another authority. Correcting an entry in an app does not prove that a government title or boundary record has changed. If both appear wrong, ask each organization whether a separate request is required.

Use this correction checklist
- Preserve the error. Save a screenshot or download showing the wrong value, the record identifier, service name and date. If the system does not allow downloads, photograph the screen and note the URL or office where you saw it.
- Compare authoritative documents. Check the entry against the land-record extract, deed, lease, prior crop submission, survey, tax notice or official acknowledgement available to you. Compare only the disputed field and redact unrelated personal information before uploading copies.
- Classify the problem. Decide whether it is a clerical or data-entry mistake, a missing update, a map or boundary discrepancy, or a disagreement over ownership or title. The classification determines who can act and what proof is relevant.
- Find the controlling authority. This may be the platform operator, a village agriculture or revenue officer, a cadastral office, a land-record center or a national registration agency. Use the service’s official contact page or the issuing office shown on your document, not an unverified intermediary.
- Submit a precise request. State the identifier, the incorrect value, the value you request, when you noticed the problem and the documents supporting it. Ask for confirmation that the request is a correction rather than a new registration when that distinction matters.
- Save proof of filing. Keep the receipt, ticket, application copy, email, transaction number or stamped acknowledgement. Record the submission date and the name or role of the receiving office.
- Track and verify. Respond quickly if staff request identity checks, more documents, a field inspection or a formal application. When the authority says the change is complete, open or obtain a fresh copy of the record and check every corrected field.
- Escalate if it is refused. Request the reason in writing and ask for the available review, appeal, hearing, survey or legal route. Do not assume that silence, a changed app display or a rejected ticket resolves an underlying land dispute.
Build an evidence package that answers the reviewer’s questions
A reviewer must be able to match your request to the right parcel and determine whether the requested value is supported. Organize files in a short index rather than sending a large, unexplained bundle.

- Identity and authority: the account holder’s identification, authorization from the owner or operator, and contact details required by the service.
- Record identifiers: title or parcel number, farm or application number, account ID, survey reference, village or administrative unit and the date of the displayed entry.
- Exact discrepancy: for example, “crop type is listed as wheat; the submitted crop declaration and field inspection show rice,” or “area is 2.40 hectares on the register but 1.80 hectares on the approved survey.”
- Supporting documents: relevant extracts, deeds, leases, approved maps, inspection reports, prior acknowledgements, photographs or correspondence. Explain what each document proves.
- Impact and urgency: state if the error blocks a certificate, payment, crop-insurance claim, loan, permit or filing deadline. This explains the practical consequence without turning urgency into a substitute for evidence.
Submit only material relevant to the disputed field. Protect identification numbers, bank details and information about other people unless the authority specifically needs them. Keep the originals and an unchanged copy of everything submitted.
Choose the route based on the record and the dispute

Ask five questions before you file: Who controls the underlying record? Is this a clerical error or a substantive dispute? What identification and proof are required? Could an inspection, hearing or biometric check be required? What acknowledgement and review channel will you receive?
What happens after submission
Administrative correction is rarely an instant edit. Staff may first check that the request concerns the correct parcel, compare the evidence with linked records and ask for a clearer document. A field visit can be used to verify cultivation or physical features. Technical staff may then update a database or map, while a separate approving officer authorizes the change.
Read every message in the official portal or inbox and meet stated response dates. If the authority asks for a formal application after an informal report, submit the formal document and link it to the original case number. If an inspection is scheduled, keep a copy of the requested documents and ask how the result will be communicated.

When a corrected record is issued, check the parcel number, names, area, crop, classification, map and effective date—not only the field you originally noticed. Download the new extract or confirmation. If the authority cannot make the change, ask which fact was unproven, whether another office owns the issue and what appeal or review route is available.
Official procedures differ by jurisdiction
England and Wales: HM Land Registry
HM Land Registry accepts reports of errors in a register entry, title plan or copy document. A report should include as much identifying information as possible, including the title number or other reference, plus supporting evidence when available. The registry investigates and may request additional information or a formal application. If it corrects the register or title plan, it supplies an updated copy. Its published estimated completion time for a correction it can make is 20 working days; complex errors may take longer. That estimate belongs to this service in England and Wales and is not a general deadline for agricultural or crop-data corrections elsewhere.
Maharashtra, India: crop-inspection entry
The Maharashtra Land Records portal describes a localized workflow for an incorrect crop-inspection entry made by an assistant. The farmer should bring the error to the village revenue officer’s attention and have the entry rejected. After rejection, the parcel becomes available again in the assistant’s reassigned work so the crop entry can be made again. This is a crop-survey process, not a universal land-registry remedy. Ask the local revenue office whether the same route applies to your record and keep the rejection or reassignment reference.

Incra’s guidance concerns the National System for Rural Property Registration (SNCR). It says a rural-property record should be updated when area, ownership, exploitation or legal status changes. If insufficient or divergent data prevents a certificate from being issued, the holder should update the electronic rural-property declaration or contact an Incra service unit. An SNCR registration update should not be confused with correcting a crop record in a separate application or changing a deed, boundary or title.

West Bengal, India: minor land-record corrections
West Bengal describes a route for clerical or documentary errors involving matters such as a name, address, plot, area, classification or other record details, supported by relevant documents. The state distinguishes these minor corrections from major ownership, boundary or title disputes, which may require separate legal or revenue proceedings. The guidance was last updated on 26 June 2026. If your evidence challenges another person’s rights rather than correcting a transcription, ask the authority for the substantive-dispute procedure instead of using a minor-correction form.
Punjab, Pakistan: land-record correction
The Punjab Land Records Authority describes an application process that can include document checking, field verification, technical review and approval. Depending on the correction, the request may be handled at the relevant Arazi Record Centre or Dahi Markaz Mall. Physical appearance for biometric verification is required in most cases, although requirements depend on the correction type. Confirm the responsible center, documents and attendance requirement before traveling, and retain the application receipt.
Greece: specified rural cadastral data
Gov.gr allows rural property owners to request correction of specified cadastral data, concession documents or decisions of an agricultural-property expropriation committee. The service requires Taxisnet credentials and supporting documents, and sends the response through the portal inbox. Regional coverage was being added gradually, so verify that the service covers your property before relying on the online route. A portal correction request does not itself decide a wider ownership or boundary dispute.

United States: USDA farm-boundary records
A USDA Farm Service Agency notice about incorrect adjacent farm boundaries directs staff to review ownership records for all associated farms, obtain additional evidence when necessary and notify affected producers of changes. This guidance concerns the agency’s farm-record system. It is not automatically the procedure for a separate crop-insurance system, private platform or county land registry. Ask the office that maintains the record you actually need corrected.

When a wrong entry is really a land dispute
A typo in a crop code, misspelled name or transposed area may be handled administratively. A claim that a neighbor’s parcel overlaps yours, that an inherited share is wrong, or that a deed does not reflect the legal owner affects rights and may require notice to other parties. The authority may require a licensed survey, documentary chain of title, hearing, mediation, court filing or revenue proceeding.
Tell the receiving office exactly what you are challenging and ask whether it can correct the field without deciding legal rights. Do not rely on a successful app edit as proof that ownership, a boundary or a registered title has changed. Continue paying attention to any separate land, tax, subsidy or financing deadlines while the dispute route is pending.
Common failure modes and practical fixes
The request went to the wrong organization
Ask whether the platform is the data controller or only a display layer. Request the name of the source register and the office that can amend it. File a new request there while preserving the first ticket as evidence of your effort.

Request a written list of missing items. Provide a short explanation linking each document to the disputed field, and submit certified or current copies if the office requires them. Do not send unrelated personal records simply to increase the file size.

The record changed but the map or linked service did not
Obtain the updated extract and ask whether another system updates on a schedule or needs its own notification. Record both case numbers. A synchronization delay is different from a rejected correction.
No response arrives
Use the official status channel with your reference number, quote the filing date and ask whether the case is awaiting documents, inspection or approval. If the published service route provides a complaint, review or escalation contact, use it rather than repeatedly opening duplicate tickets.
The correction is refused
Ask for the decision and the next permissible step. If the reason is that the issue concerns title or boundaries, move to the designated legal or revenue process; if it is a simple data mismatch, ask whether a supervisor review or formal application is available.
Questions to ask before submitting in any country
- What country, state or province governs this record?
- What is the service name and exact record type: crop inspection, farm account, cadastral parcel, title register or rural-property registration?
- Which identifier must appear on every page?
- Is the request a correction, an update after a change, or a new registration?
- Are there filing windows, fees, certified-copy rules, biometric attendance or inspection requirements?
- How will the authority deliver the decision, and how can you challenge it if the correction is denied?
Exact forms, deadlines, fees and appeal rights cannot be determined without those jurisdiction and service details. Once the controlling authority is identified, a complete evidence trail and a preserved case reference give you the best chance of correcting the data without confusing an administrative fix with a change in legal land rights.
