If your Walmart+ savings are not showing, do not start or complete the purchase until you verify the station and redemption method. Check the exact location in Fuel Finder, open the fuel benefit in the Walmart app, and use the workflow for that provider: a QR code at Walmart, Exxon, and Mobil; a discount ID at Murphy; or a linked Club CITGO phone number (Alt ID) at eligible CITGO locations. On new Nexus pumps, scanning the QR code is required—Tap to Pay or inserting a card will not apply Walmart+ savings.
Keep the app current, enable Location Services, and have the required payment method ready. If the pump still does not confirm the expected price, ask the attendant for help before fueling. Walmart says discounts can vary by location and state law, and its terms do not promise that every transaction will qualify.

First, pause the transaction
A missing price reduction is easiest to correct before fuel starts flowing. If the pump has not displayed the Walmart+ price, stop and work through these checks:

A familiar brand name is not enough; use Fuel Finder and look for participation signage.
- Open the Walmart app and select the fuel benefit. Check that the app is updated and that Location Services is enabled.
- Use the provider’s required credential—QR code, discount ID, or CITGO Alt ID—rather than choosing a different card or loyalty option at the pump.
- Check that Walmart Pay or another required payment method is set up before authorizing the pump.
- If the savings still do not appear, ask the station attendant to help before you authorize or finish the sale.

Why a Walmart+ discount may not appear
The location is not eligible
Walmart currently lists participating Walmart, CITGO, Exxon, Mobil, and Murphy stations. Participation is location-specific, so another station of the same brand may not qualify. Sam’s Club works differently: members receive the Sam’s Club member fuel price, not an additional Walmart+ cents-per-gallon reduction.
The wrong redemption method was used
Each provider has its own process. A card inserted directly at a new Nexus pump, for example, does not substitute for scanning the pump’s Walmart QR code. Likewise, a Murphy pump expects the current Walmart+ discount ID, while CITGO expects the phone number associated with a linked Club CITGO account.
Your app, location, or payment setup is incomplete
Out-of-date app software, disabled Location Services, or a missing payment method can prevent the benefit from loading or completing. CITGO requires account linking before you arrive; the phone number attached to that account becomes the Alt ID used at the pump.

A program or provider limit applies
At CITGO, Walmart currently states a maximum of 30 gallons per transaction and four Walmart+ fuel transactions per week. Provider operations, fraud controls, location rules, and state fuel-pricing laws can also affect whether a transaction qualifies.
Use the correct workflow for the station
The following comparison keeps the credentials and payment paths separate so you can follow the instructions for the pump in front of you.

Step-by-step instructions by provider
Walmart and Nexus pumps
- Open the Walmart app and go to Services → Walmart+ member benefits and member prices on fuel.
- Choose Pay at pump.
- At a standard participating Walmart pump, scan the displayed QR code. At a new Nexus pump, find the QR code on the right side of the pump screen and scan it.
- Choose the fuel grade in the app or on the pump when prompted, then begin fueling.
Do not replace the QR step with Tap to Pay or a manually inserted credit card on a Nexus pump. Walmart’s Tap to Pay FAQ says fuel-station Tap to Pay rollout is planned for mid-2027; the current Nexus workflow still requires the QR code. Details can change, so check the Tap to Pay FAQ if the pump’s interface differs.

Exxon and Mobil
- Open the fuel benefit in the Walmart app.
- Scan the QR code on the pump.
- Select Fuel up for less.
- Enter the pump number.
- Choose the payment method and then the fuel grade.
If you also use the Mobil+ Loyalty Program, choose one discount path. Walmart states that the Mobil+ discount cannot be combined with the Walmart+ discount.
Murphy
- Open the fuel benefit and display the current discount ID.
- At the pump, select Walmart+ and enter the ID.
- For an inside transaction, give the cashier the ID, pump number, and dollar amount before payment.
Use a newly generated or currently displayed ID if the app refreshes; do not rely on a number copied from an earlier visit.

CITGO
- Create or sign in to a Club CITGO account before arriving.
- Link that account to your Walmart+ membership.
- At the station, activate the fuel benefit and select Walmart+ on the eligible pump screen.
- Enter the phone number tied to Club CITGO as the Alt ID.
- Stay within Walmart’s stated 30-gallon-per-transaction and four-transactions-per-week limits.
Walmart announced CITGO’s addition on September 14, 2026, describing an expansion of approximately 30% nationwide and more than 17,000 locations. Those figures are Walmart’s own announcement, not an independent station count; confirm your exact location in Fuel Finder.
Sam’s Club
At Sam’s Club, the relevant benefit is the club’s member fuel price. Do not wait for a separate Walmart+ cents-per-gallon line. A receipt can show the member price without itemizing a Walmart+ savings amount.
Prepare before you reach the pump
- Verify participation: Search the exact address in Fuel Finder and check for station signage. Brand-wide assumptions are unreliable.
- Update the app: Install the current Walmart app version before driving to the station.
- Enable Location Services: The app may need location access to identify the station and load the correct benefit.
- Set up payment: Add a payment method to Walmart Pay when the station workflow requires it.
- Finish CITGO linking in advance: The phone number used as the Alt ID must belong to the Club CITGO account linked to Walmart+.
- Know the pump type: If the pump is a new Nexus model, plan to scan its QR code rather than tapping or inserting a card.
What to do when the price still looks wrong
- Stop before authorization, where practical. If the pump has not confirmed the discounted price, do not assume it will be corrected automatically after fueling.
- Recheck the location. Confirm that the precise station participates; nearby stations of the same brand may have different eligibility.
- Recheck the credential. Make sure you scanned the QR code at Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, or Nexus; entered the current discount ID at Murphy; or used the linked Club CITGO phone number as the Alt ID.
- Recheck setup. Verify the app is current, Location Services is on, the required payment method is available, and CITGO linking is complete if applicable.
- Ask the attendant. Walmart says an attendant can help complete the transaction. Show the app screen and identify the workflow you attempted.
- Review the receipt afterward. For eligible transactions, the app may display a digital receipt after fueling. Save the station, date, pump, and amount if you need to discuss the charge.
Do not count on a universal retroactive adjustment. The current Walmart help materials explain how to redeem the benefit and how an attendant can assist, but they do not establish a single reimbursement process for every failed transaction.

How much should the benefit be worth?
Walmart’s current benefit page, accessed October 13, 2026, lists savings of 10 cents per gallon at participating Walmart, CITGO, Exxon, Mobil, and Murphy stations. In Alabama, the same page states savings of 5–10 cents per gallon. The exact reduction can depend on the location and applicable law.
At CITGO, the 30-gallon transaction cap means the advertised 10-cent rate would produce at most $3.00 in per-gallon savings for that transaction when the full cap and rate apply. That is a calculation, not a guarantee that every CITGO purchase receives 10 cents per gallon. The weekly limit is four Walmart+ fuel transactions.
Do not compare the Walmart+ reduction with another station’s final pump price as though the prices started equal. Third-party providers set their own public fuel prices. Walmart’s Walmart+ Terms of Use, section 2.3, state: “The fuel discount provided by Walmart fueling stations and any third-party fuel providers is subject to change and may differ based on specific location, and is dependent on state laws governing the price of fuels.” The terms page was last updated September 28, 2026.

A lower-than-expected reduction is not always a technical failure. Walmart says the benefit can vary by location and state law, and its terms allow operational or fraud-prevention controls to affect availability. A third-party station’s base price can also change independently of Walmart’s discount. If the app and pump both identify an eligible transaction but the amount differs from an advertised figure, photograph or note the pump display and ask the attendant to explain the posted price before paying.
Because participating locations, app labels, discounts, and payment rollouts can change, verify the current instructions shortly before your next fueling trip using Walmart’s official fuel-benefit help page.
