Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIf allotted IPO shares are not visible after listing, do not assume they were lost or that the broker is automatically at fault. Check your depository/DP holdings and transaction statement, match them against the allotment and application records, then ask the issue registrar and your broker or depository participant (DP) to trace the credit. If the matter remains unresolved, escalate a specific, documented complaint through SEBI’s SCORES platform. There is no universal post-listing credit deadline established for every IPO, so rely on the particular issue’s official records rather than an invented cutoff.
Start with the actual demat records
A demat holding is an electronic account record maintained through a depository and accessed through a DP. Your trading app’s portfolio screen can be delayed, filtered, or incomplete, so begin with the DP or depository facility and inspect both the current holdings and the transaction statement. SEBI’s investor charter advises investors to check these records and retain account information: SEBI Investor Charter.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Sign in through your DP’s official website or app, or the depository’s official investor facility.
- Search holdings using the security name, ISIN, or other identifier shown in the issue documents.
- Open the transaction statement for the relevant period and look for an allotment credit, reversal, transfer, or other entry.
- Download or save the statement showing the account holder details, date, quantity, and transaction reference.
If the shares appear in the statement but not in the broker’s portfolio, the discrepancy may be a broker display or synchronization issue rather than a missing depository credit. Ask the broker to reconcile the two records.
Confirm that you were allotted shares
An application acknowledgement is not proof of allotment. Compare the official allotment result with your application information before pursuing a credit complaint.

Check these details
- Application number and the issue name.
- Allotment status: allotted, partially allotted, or not allotted.
- Number of shares allotted, including any partial quantity.
- PAN and the demat account or beneficiary details entered in the application.
- Bank mandate, blocked amount, debit, release, or refund record.
If the result says “not allotted,” there should be no IPO-share credit to trace; check that the blocked funds were released or the payment was handled according to the issue’s official instructions. If the result confirms allotment, retain a copy showing the quantity and identifiers. If you cannot find the result, use the issue’s official registrar channel rather than an unsolicited link or message.
Match the application to the correct demat account
A credit can fail or be delayed when the application contains a wrong, closed, inactive, or mismatched demat identifier. Compare the demat account number, DP ID, beneficiary owner ID, PAN, and account-holder name in the application with the account currently visible through your DP. Do not infer a mismatch solely from an app label; obtain the formal account details from the DP.
Depositories maintain the central electronic records, while DPs provide investors access and account services. SEBI explains the distinction here: Difference between Depositories and Depository Participants. This is why both the issue registrar (which maintains allotment and issue records) and your broker or DP (which handles the account access and transaction record) may need to investigate.
Ask the registrar and broker or DP to trace the credit
SEBI’s grievance guidance says investors should first approach the concerned company or intermediary. The relevant contacts depend on where the discrepancy occurs, so contact the issue’s official registrar and the broker or DP connected to the application and account.

What to ask the issue registrar
- Whether your application was allotted and the exact quantity.
- Which PAN and demat identifiers were submitted for the allotment.
- Whether a credit instruction was sent to the depository and on what date.
- Whether the instruction was rejected, returned, or requires correction.
- Which reference number or document the registrar can provide for the trace.
Use the registrar’s contact details shown in the IPO prospectus, allotment notice, or the issuer’s official website. State the issue name, application number, PAN in a suitably masked form where possible, allotted quantity, and your DP details. Do not send credentials that are not needed to identify the application.
What to ask the broker or DP
- Whether the demat account was active and correctly linked when the credit instruction was processed.
- Whether the DP received, rejected, or posted an allotment transaction.
- Whether a credit appears in the back-office transaction statement but is absent from the trading interface.
- Whether any account freeze, KYC issue, transmission restriction, or other status prevented posting.
- What internal complaint or service-request reference was created.
SEBI describes brokers as intermediaries that can assist with demat and trading accounts and IPO investments: Market Intermediaries and Services. That role does not mean the broker is always responsible; responsibility follows the record that is inconsistent.
Use a record-by-record diagnostic
Checking each record in sequence prevents a complaint from being sent to the wrong entity.
| Record to check | What it can establish | Who normally holds or supplies it |
|---|---|---|
| Application acknowledgement | Application number, PAN, bank mandate and demat details submitted | Applicant, bank or application channel |
| Allotment result | Whether shares were allotted and the quantity | Issue registrar or issuer’s official allotment channel |
| Bank mandate/payment record | Funds blocked, debited, released, or refunded | Bank and payment system |
| Registrar correspondence | Credit instruction status, rejection reason, and reference | Issue registrar |
| DP/depository transaction statement | Actual electronic credit, reversal, or rejection entry | DP or depository |
| Broker portfolio view | How the broker displays the demat balance | Broker |
A mismatch between two rows tells you where to direct the next question. For example, an allotment result plus a registrar-confirmed credit instruction, but no DP transaction entry, calls for a DP/depository trace. An allotment result that does not match the application details calls for the registrar or application channel to explain the discrepancy.

Keep a complete, dated evidence file
Save documents before links expire or screens change. A concise file makes it easier for an intermediary or regulator to understand the chronology.
- IPO application acknowledgement and application number.
- Allotment result or rejection status.
- Bank mandate, payment, debit, release, or refund evidence.
- DP/depository holdings and transaction statements.
- Demat account and DP details relevant to the application.
- Official registrar contact details and every reply.
- Broker or DP ticket numbers, emails, call dates, and promised follow-ups.
- Screenshots or downloaded PDFs showing dates, quantities, and reference numbers.
SEBI’s investor charter recommends retaining account records: Investor Charter. Never publish or share your demat password, trading password, OTP, PIN, or full login credentials. SEBI specifically warns investors not to share passwords, OTPs, or credentials for depository e-facilities.
Escalate an unresolved case through SCORES
If the registrar, issuer, broker, or DP does not resolve the discrepancy, or gives an unsatisfactory response, file a securities-market grievance against the appropriate entity on SEBI’s SCORES platform. SEBI’s overview states: “Investors shall first take up their grievances for redressal with the entity concerned, through their designated persons/officials who handle issues relating to compliance and redressal of investor grievances.” See SCORES and SEBI’s Grievance Redressal in Securities Market.

Know the filing and response time limits
Current SEBI investor-facing guidance says a SCORES complaint should be lodged within one year from the date of occurrence of the cause of action. The same guidance says the entity must file an Action Taken Report with SEBI within 30 days of receiving the complaint. The 30-day requirement is a reporting step; it is not a promise that shares will be credited or that the dispute will be fully resolved within 30 days. Check the current rules on the live portal because procedures can change.
There is no universal IPO-specific deadline established for every post-listing demat credit in the official material reviewed here. The issue’s notices and transaction records may contain dates relevant to your case, but do not assert a missed deadline or fault without evidence.
Do not misuse the 2026 direct-credit circular
SEBI’s January 30, 2026 circular concerns direct demat credit for specified investor service requests after due diligence. It is not a routine remedy or automatic procedure for a missing IPO allotment. The circular also refers to a recent DP-attested Client Master List requirement within its defined scope. Do not send a Client Master List under that circular unless your request falls within the circular’s specified service category and the responsible entity confirms that process. The document is available at SEBI’s January 30, 2026 circular.

Allotment is confirmed, but neither statement nor portfolio shows a credit
Ask the registrar for the depository instruction and rejection or return details, then give that reference to your DP for reconciliation. Keep both responses in the same evidence file.

The transaction statement shows a credit, but the app does not
Send the statement to the broker and request a portfolio refresh or correction. The depository statement is the stronger record of the electronic holding.
The application used an old or incorrect demat account
Tell the registrar and DP exactly which identifiers were submitted and which account is active now. Do not assume a transfer is possible; ask what formal correction or recovery route applies to that documented mismatch.
The bank released the funds and the result is unclear
Obtain the official allotment or rejection status from the registrar. A payment release alone does not establish that shares were allotted.
The intermediary stops responding
Keep the unanswered tickets and dates, then submit a specific SCORES complaint within the one-year filing window. Include the prior-contact evidence rather than describing the matter only in general terms.
Quick Recap
Protect yourself while resolving the issue
- Use only registrar, broker, DP, depository, issuer, SEBI, and SCORES contact channels published on official websites or documents.
- Do not pay a third party promising guaranteed recovery or immediate credit.
- Do not share OTPs, passwords, PINs, or complete login credentials.
- Mask unnecessary PAN, bank, and account information when attaching documents.
- Keep the original files and a dated chronology outside the complaint portal.
- Track every reference number until the record is reconciled or the entity explains why no credit is due.
