What to do if fixed deposit details are missing or incorrect in your CAS (India)

First identify which “CAS” you are looking at. India’s securities Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) is designed to combine mutual-fund activity with securities held in demat accounts; official SEBI and CDSL descriptions do not establish an ordinary bank fixed deposit as a standard CAS holding. Compare the display with the bank’s FD receipt and account ledger. If the bank’s own record is wrong, use the bank’s official service channel. If a demat entry is wrong, contact your Depository Participant (DP), then the depository if the DP does not resolve it. If a mutual-fund folio is absent, contact the relevant registrar and transfer agent (RTA). Keep copies and obtain a written complaint reference.

Why an ordinary fixed deposit may not appear in a securities CAS

SEBI describes a CAS as a combined account statement showing transactions during a month across mutual funds and other securities held in demat accounts. CDSL’s CAS FAQ likewise covers demat-account holdings and transactions and mutual-fund units held in statement-of-account form. These descriptions do not say that a conventional bank fixed deposit (FD) must be listed.

An ordinary FD is a deposit contract recorded by the issuing bank. It is not automatically converted into a demat asset merely because a bank, broker or portfolio app shows it on a screen. A certificate of deposit is different: SEBI’s Depositories and Participants Regulations list certificates of deposit among instruments that may be held in dematerialised form. That legal provision does not turn an ordinary bank FD into a CAS holding.

Some providers use “CAS” for their own portfolio dashboard or a different consolidated statement. Such a display can include products outside a depository CAS. Before opening a complaint, note the document title, issuer, statement period and account identifiers. The correct escalation route depends on that information.

Step 1: Verify the document and the underlying asset

Do not assume that a missing line is an error until you establish what document you received and which institution owns the underlying record. Use this sequence:

  1. Read the header. Record the issuer (for example, a depository, RTA, bank or private portfolio provider), the statement period, and any DP ID, client ID, folio number or customer-account reference.
  2. Classify the product. Decide whether it is an ordinary bank FD, a security in a demat account, a mutual-fund folio, or an item shown only by a third-party interface.
  3. Compare identity fields. Check the first-holder name, PAN, joint-holder or holding pattern, bank account reference, folio and demat identifiers. CAS consolidation is PAN-based, so even a small mismatch can leave an otherwise valid folio outside the statement.
  4. Compare dates and amounts. For an FD, check principal, opening date, maturity date, tenure, interest instructions and deposit number against the bank’s advice or receipt. For a security or mutual fund, compare the statement date, quantity or units and transaction entries with the DP or RTA record.
  5. Use an authenticated channel only. Never post PAN, account numbers, passwords, one-time passwords or complete deposit receipts on a public forum. Upload documents only through the institution’s signed-in app, official website, branch process or verified customer-service channel.

Choose the complaint route by who maintains the disputed data

What is missing or wrong? Record owner First action Next escalation if unresolved
Ordinary bank FD details Issuing bank Compare the FD advice and deposit ledger; ask the bank to verify status and correct its record. If the bank record is correct but another app is wrong, report the display error to that app’s authenticated support team.
Security, quantity or transaction in a demat statement Depository Participant (DP) Give the DP the statement period, security identifier and exact discrepancy. Approach the relevant depository if the DP does not respond or does not resolve it.
Missing mutual-fund folio or transaction Fund’s RTA (or the service handling the folio) Check PAN, first-holder details and holding pattern; ask the RTA to trace and update the folio. Follow the RTA’s written grievance route and retain the case reference.
FD shown incorrectly in a portfolio dashboard Dashboard provider for the display; bank for the underlying FD Confirm the bank record first, then report the mismatch to the provider with the minimum requested evidence. Use the provider’s stated escalation process; a depository complaint is not a substitute unless the disputed asset is actually a demat holding.

If the disputed item is an ordinary bank fixed deposit

When the bank’s own record is missing or wrong

Sign in to the bank’s official app or website and compare the FD advice with the deposit account ledger. If the online record is incomplete, ask the branch or customer-service team to verify the deposit number, principal, opening and maturity dates, interest instructions and current status. State exactly what is wrong and request correction in the bank’s core record, not merely a cosmetic change to a downloaded statement.

Send a dated written request through the bank’s authenticated channel and keep the acknowledgement, ticket number and every response. The reviewed SEBI and CDSL material does not prescribe one bank-wide FD complaint form or a universal correction deadline, so ask the bank for its applicable service timeline. If the bank says the FD is valid, request written confirmation of the deposit details that should be used when correcting any external display.

When the bank’s record is correct but the CAS-like screen is wrong

A third-party portfolio application may import, classify or refresh data differently from the bank. Provide only the fields needed to locate the item and redact unrelated balances or transactions. Ask the provider to explain whether its screen is a depository CAS, a bank-linked aggregation, or its own portfolio view. The provider, rather than the depository, is responsible for correcting an error that exists only in its interface.

If the discrepancy is in a demat account

Identify the DP that services the demat account from the statement or account-opening documents. Tell the DP the statement date, client ID, security name or ISIN, quantity, transaction date and the precise difference between the statement and your contract note or transaction confirmation.

SEBI’s Investor Charter gives direct guidance: “In case of any discrepancies in statements, take up the same with the DP immediately.” Treat “immediately” as a reason not to wait for the next monthly statement. Submit the complaint in writing, attach the relevant pages, and request a dated acknowledgement or reference number.

If the DP does not respond or the response does not correct the record, approach the relevant depository through its current investor-grievance process. SEBI’s charter describes the right to approach the Participant, Depository or SEBI for investor grievances and identifies SEBI’s SCORES channel. Confirm the current submission route and required documents on the official service before filing. Keep the DP complaint, proof of delivery, depository reference and all replies together.

If a mutual-fund folio is missing

Start with the folio’s RTA, not the bank that collected your payment. Verify that the first-holder PAN, names, joint-holder pattern and folio registration are identical to the details used for CAS consolidation. A folio registered under a different PAN, an old name or a different holding pattern can be excluded even when the investment itself is valid.

CAMS states that its consolidated mutual-fund service combines funds serviced by CAMS and KFintech. It also warns that demat details can be incomplete when the latest data received from depositories is incomplete; demat-holding questions should then go to the DP. For a missing folio in a CAMS CAN-based statement, CAMS directs investors to a nearby CAMS service centre. Use the RTA’s current authenticated channel, provide the folio and PAN securely, and request written confirmation of what must be corrected.

Check PAN matching and the CAS consolidation cycle

CAS consolidation uses PAN-based matching. Review the PAN of the first holder on each mutual-fund folio and the PAN linked to each demat account. Also check whether the names and holding patterns match; a sole-holder folio and a joint demat account may not consolidate as you expect.

Where an investor has accounts across both Indian depositories, the default depository generally sends the CAS. This explains why a statement may arrive from a depository different from the one you normally contact, but it does not make that depository the record owner of an ordinary bank FD.

SEBI circular SEBI/HO/MRD/PoD1/CIR/P/2025 dated 14 February 2025 describes a monthly sequence: mutual-fund RTAs provide common-PAN data to depositories within three days after month-end, and the depositories consolidate and dispatch the CAS within ten days after month-end. Those are statement-generation milestones, not a promise that a disputed asset will be corrected by the next dispatch. A correction may require the bank, DP or RTA to update its source record first and then wait for a subsequent consolidation cycle.

Prepare a complete, privacy-safe complaint

  • State the document name, issuer and statement period.
  • Identify the asset type and the account, folio, client or deposit reference in a partially masked form where the channel permits.
  • Describe the discrepancy in one sentence: missing, wrong holder, wrong amount, wrong dates, duplicate entry or incorrect status.
  • Attach the relevant FD advice, bank ledger page, contract note, DP statement or RTA statement, showing only necessary pages.
  • Include the PAN and holding-pattern issue if that is the likely cause, but transmit the full PAN only through the institution’s secure channel.
  • Ask for the source record to be corrected and for a written explanation of the expected next statement cycle.
  • Save the acknowledgement, ticket number, date submitted, promised response date and every follow-up.

Common situations and the practical fix

Situation Likely explanation What to do
The FD is in the bank app but absent from a securities CAS. An ordinary FD is generally outside the standard securities-CAS scope. Use the bank record as the authoritative FD record; ask a third-party provider why it displays or omits the product.
A demat security appears with the wrong quantity. The statement or DP record may not match a transaction confirmation. Contact the DP immediately with the security identifier, quantity and transaction evidence; escalate to the depository if unresolved.
A mutual-fund folio is missing while other folios appear. PAN, first-holder details or holding pattern may differ. Ask the RTA to check the folio registration and common-PAN data, then await a later CAS cycle after correction.
A portfolio app shows an FD with the wrong maturity date. The app may have imported stale or misclassified data. Verify the bank’s deposit advice and report the app-only error to its support team; do not ask a depository to alter a bank record.
The next monthly CAS still shows the old data. The source institution may not have completed its update before the consolidation cut-off. Follow up using the existing reference and ask whether the correction was submitted before the next processing cycle.

What not to do

  • Do not infer that every product labelled “FD” is the same as a certificate of deposit or a demat-held instrument.
  • Do not open duplicate complaints with several institutions before establishing which record is wrong; conflicting requests can delay tracing.
  • Do not rely on a screenshot alone when the bank, DP or RTA can issue a dated statement or advice.
  • Do not share OTPs, passwords, complete PAN details or unredacted statements with an unverified caller or social-media account.
  • Do not treat the ten-day CAS dispatch milestone as a guaranteed deadline for resolving an individual dispute.

How to know the issue is actually resolved

Resolution means the underlying record is correct, not merely that one PDF or screen has changed. For an FD, obtain the bank’s corrected advice or written confirmation and verify the deposit number, principal and maturity details. For a demat issue, confirm the corrected quantity or transaction in the DP’s statement and retain the depository response if you escalated. For a mutual-fund folio, verify the folio’s PAN and holding pattern with the RTA and check the next available CAS after the update cycle. If only a third-party dashboard was wrong, compare its refreshed display with the bank, DP or RTA source record.
