A failed Jeevan Pramaan face scan does not end a pensioner’s options. Retry once under better capture conditions, then move to an assisted centre, doorstep service or the conventional life-certificate process that fits the pension scheme and the pensioner’s health.
First establish whether the certificate was only generated or was actually accepted: download the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) and read its status. A Pramaan ID or completed scan alone is not proof that the pension-disbursing authority has accepted it.

Use this order unless illness or incapacity makes a visit impossible:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Retry the face scan once after correcting lighting, posture, background, camera distance and connectivity.
- Use an assisted point such as a Common Service Centre (CSC), bank, post office or treasury if the pensioner can travel but the phone attempt fails.
- Request a doorstep or home/hospital visit when travel or authentication is impossible because of serious illness or incapacity.
- Check the downloaded DLC status and contact the Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA) if the certificate is rejected.
Jeevan Pramaan is an Aadhaar-based biometric DLC and an additional method, not a replacement for every existing life-certificate route. The official FAQ says pensioners may continue using other accepted methods when digital submission is unsuccessful.

Why face authentication fails
UIDAI’s Life Certificate FAQ identifies several causes. A retry should address all of the relevant conditions rather than repeatedly scanning in the same setup.
Improve the capture environment
- Use even, adequate lighting that illuminates the face without harsh shadows or glare.
- Keep the head still and face the camera straight on.
- Follow the application’s blink instruction exactly.
- Use a plain, evenly coloured background.
- Keep other people out of the camera frame.
- Hold the phone at a suitable distance so the face is fully visible and not cropped.
- Use a stable internet connection during authentication.
Check identity and device conditions
- If the pensioner wears glasses, they should resemble the glasses visible in the Aadhaar photograph as closely as practical; a mismatch can reduce the chance of a successful comparison.
- Check whether Aadhaar biometrics are locked. A biometric lock can prevent authentication until it is unlocked through the permitted UIDAI process.
- Confirm that the phone meets the current Jeevan Pramaan application requirements rather than relying on older guides.
These adjustments are troubleshooting measures, not a guarantee. If one careful retry fails, changing to an assisted route is usually more productive than repeating the same scan.
Use the current application and device requirements
The Jeevan Pramaan application information page, last reviewed 23 July 2026, lists Android 10 or later and iOS 14 or later for the current mobile apps. The face-authentication app uses the phone’s camera and does not require a separate biometric device.
The Windows 10/11 option requires a compatible fingerprint or iris scanner. An older UIDAI FAQ mentions Android 9 and a 13-megapixel scan as guidance from an earlier period; those older figures should not override the current application page.

When an external scanner is relevant
A scanner is needed only for a supported fingerprint or iris workflow. Jeevan Pramaan’s FAQ specifies that a device should be STQC-certified and use a compatible Registered Device (RD) service. Verify current certification, manufacturer RD support and operating-system compatibility before buying or installing anything. A scanner is not needed for phone-camera face authentication or for generation at a staffed centre.
Get help at an assisted generation point
If the pensioner can travel, an assisted centre avoids many phone, camera and biometric setup problems. The Jeevan Pramaan FAQ lists CSCs and pension-disbursing agency offices, including banks, post offices and treasuries.
What happens at a CSC or PDA office
- Tell the operator that a Digital Life Certificate is required and provide the pension details requested by the centre.
- The operator enters the pension information in the system.
- The pensioner completes fingerprint or iris authentication at the centre.
- Check the entered pension particulars carefully before final submission.
- Download the resulting DLC later and confirm whether its status is accepted or rejected.
To locate a CSC, use the official Jeevan Pramaan locator. The FAQ also gives an SMS option: send JPL, followed by a space and the PIN code, to 7738299899. Confirm the centre’s details on the official portal before travelling because local availability can change.
India Post Payments Bank access points and doorstep visits
India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) describes DLC service at post offices and IPPB access points, as well as at the pensioner’s home through a postman or Grameen Dak Sevak. Its stated prerequisites are:
Rank #3
- Aadhaar
- An existing mobile number
- Aadhaar registered with the pension-disbursing agency
- Pension particulars
IPPB’s FAQ says fingerprint is currently the live biometric option through its service. Ask IPPB or the local post office whether the service is available in the pensioner’s area and whether the pension scheme is eligible before arranging a visit.
When serious illness or incapacity prevents attendance
For a pensioner who cannot appear in person because of serious illness or incapacity, UIDAI’s FAQ describes a conventional accommodation route. Send the Pension Account Holding Branch an intimation explaining the inability to appear, supported by a medical certificate from a Registered Medical Practitioner.
The branch may nominate an officer to visit the pensioner at home or in hospital and record the life certificate. The same FAQ states that a public-sector-bank pensioner’s certificate may be signed by an officer of that bank and lists categories of officials who may sign the prescribed Annexure XIII form.

Because the exact paperwork and appointment process can vary, contact the pension account holding branch first. Ask which medical certificate wording, identity documents, prescribed form and witness or signature requirements it will accept, and whether the visit will be at home or in hospital. Do not assume that a relative’s statement alone substitutes for the branch’s required documents.

Check whether the certificate was accepted
Generation and acceptance are separate stages. Download the DLC and inspect its status after submission. If it is rejected, the Jeevan Pramaan FAQ advises contacting the PDA, correcting the pension details and generating a new certificate with the corrected information and biometrics. IPPB gives the same practical advice when rejection continues.
Common reasons for rejection after a successful scan
- A wrong pension or account number
- An incorrect PDA or pension-sanctioning authority selection
- Other pension particulars that do not match the authority’s records
Keep the rejection information and the corrected details with you when speaking to the PDA. Do not rely on the Pramaan ID alone; the PDA’s acceptance is what determines whether the certificate satisfies its life-certificate requirement.
Choose the route that matches the pensioner’s situation
| Situation | Most suitable route | Authentication or recording method | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pensioner can travel and has a working phone | One careful face-authentication retry | Phone camera | Use the current Android 10+ or iOS 14+ app requirements |
| Phone retry fails but travel is possible | CSC, bank, post office or treasury | Operator-assisted fingerprint or iris authentication | Confirm the centre and pension details before submission |
| Pensioner prefers postal assistance or cannot use a centre easily | IPPB access point or eligible doorstep request | IPPB currently lists fingerprint as its live biometric option | Check local availability and scheme eligibility |
| Serious illness or incapacity prevents attendance | Branch-coordinated home or hospital visit, or another prescribed conventional route | Nominated bank officer or authorised signer under the applicable form | Provide the Registered Medical Practitioner’s certificate and confirm branch requirements |
| DLC shows rejection | Contact the PDA, correct details and submit a new certificate | Repeat the accepted biometric or recording process | Verify the downloaded status after resubmission |
Eligibility is not identical across pension schemes. The Jeevan Pramaan service requires the relevant pension-sanctioning authority to be onboarded, while conventional life-certificate options may remain available through the PDA.

A Press Information Bureau announcement dated 28 January 2026 covers a specific doorstep DLC facility for Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) pensioners, introduced with IPPB and effective 1 December 2025. It says an EPS pensioner can request the service through IPPB customer care at 033-22029000.

- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
The announcement says the EPS facility is free and cautions pensioners not to pay anyone. The statement applies to that announced EPS service; it must not be generalized to every pension scheme, every postal visit or every PDA. Pensioners outside EPS should verify coverage and any applicable conditions with their own PDA or IPPB before booking a visit.

Have the Aadhaar number, mobile number, pension particulars and PDA details available when calling. Never disclose a one-time password or biometric credential to an unverified caller or visitor; confirm the person’s identity through the responsible bank, post office or PDA.
What to do if every digital route fails
- Record the error message, date and time, and the phone or centre used.
- Download the DLC if a Pramaan ID was issued and note its exact status.
- Contact the PDA and ask which alternative life-certificate method it accepts for the pension scheme.
- If illness is the barrier, send the branch the medical certificate and request written instructions for a home or hospital visit.
- Keep copies of submitted forms, medical documents, acknowledgement numbers and the final accepted status.
This paper trail helps the pensioner prove that a submission was attempted and gives the PDA the information needed to correct a rejected or mismatched record.
