First determine whether you expected an instant checkout discount or a card-linked benefit that posts later. A missing promo code or price reduction is usually a merchant-order issue; a missing statement credit or points award is handled by the card issuer under that offer’s posting rules. Check the promotion terms, compare them with the final receipt, and contact the party responsible for the benefit with your records.
The exact offer controls eligibility. Expiry, enrollment, the card used, merchant and location, qualifying products, minimum spend, account status, order type, and coupon-stacking rules can all decide whether the benefit appears.

Start by identifying which kind of discount you were promised
The phrase “credit card discount” covers two different mechanisms. Troubleshooting the wrong one can send you to the wrong support team or make you wait for a credit that was supposed to reduce the checkout total immediately.
Instant checkout discount or promo code
This benefit is visible while you place the order. It may be a typed code, an automatically triggered card promotion, a voucher, or a reduced price shown in the cart. It should appear in the checkout breakdown, order confirmation, or final receipt before or immediately after submission. The retailer’s ordering system controls whether it applies.

Card-linked statement credit or points
This benefit is attached to an eligible card account. You may need to enroll or add the offer first, sometimes through a merchant link or by entering a code. After you make a qualifying purchase, the issuer posts a statement credit or rewards points later. The reduced amount may never appear in the merchant’s checkout total.

Do not assume that a statement-credit offer works like a checkout coupon, or that one issuer’s timing applies to another issuer.
Read the offer before trying to fix the order
Reopen the original email, app offer, card-rewards page, or merchant promotion. Look for the following conditions and check each one against your transaction.

- Expiration and offer period: Confirm that the purchase was made before the stated end date and, for offers requiring several purchases, that every transaction fell within the qualifying period.
- Enrollment: Some card-linked offers must be added to the account before the purchase. A merchant link, activation button, or code may be part of enrollment.
- Eligible card: Verify that the charge went to the exact card or account named in the terms. A different card in the same wallet, a replacement card, or a digital-wallet payment may not qualify if the terms require the enrolled card number.
- Merchant and location: Offers can be limited to a particular merchant, country, store, website, branch, or delivery region.
- Qualifying products: Read exclusions for brands, categories, gift cards, subscriptions, sale items, services, or marketplace sellers. An order can contain both eligible and excluded items.
- Minimum spend or transaction count: Determine whether the threshold is calculated before tax, shipping, tips, discounts, or refunds, and whether the offer requires one transaction or several.
- Account restrictions: New-customer, one-per-account, membership, or targeted-cardholder rules can block an otherwise valid-looking purchase.
- Combining promotions: Some merchants allow only one code, prohibit stacking, or automatically remove one offer when another is entered.
- Order type and fulfillment: Pickup, delivery, subscription, third-party marketplace, international, or in-store orders may be treated differently.
Save a screenshot or PDF of the terms showing the date, conditions, and benefit. Promotions can change after an order is placed, while your saved copy documents what you were shown.
If a promo code or instant discount is missing at checkout
Resolve a checkout discount before you submit the order whenever possible. Follow this sequence so you can distinguish a simple entry problem from an eligibility failure.
- Use the correct field. Look for a box labeled promo code, voucher, coupon, offer code, or payment promotion. A card number field is not necessarily the place for a merchant code.
- Re-enter the code carefully. Remove spaces before or after the code, check similar characters such as zero and the letter O, and avoid copying hidden formatting from an email. If the code is case-sensitive, match the displayed capitalization.
- Apply it and wait for confirmation. A valid code should produce a visible confirmation, a changed subtotal, or a line item in the order summary. An error message such as expired, invalid, not eligible, or already used is evidence that the code was not accepted.
- Check the cart against the terms. Remove excluded products, meet the required subtotal, select the qualifying delivery or pickup method, and sign in to the account if the offer requires it.
- Test stacking rules. Remove other coupon codes or automatic promotions one at a time. Many sites permit only one code, and applying a second can silently displace the first.
- Review the summary after every change. Changing an address, payment method, shipping option, quantity, or account state can reload checkout and clear previously entered information. Enter the code again if the discount line disappears.
- Do not submit an order that shows no discount if the price matters. A code entered in the box but absent from the final total is not the same as an applied code. Capture the screen and ask the merchant whether it can honor the promotion before paying.
Retailer instructions from Google Store, Koh, iHerb, and other merchants commonly direct shoppers to verify the code, qualifying items, and order summary before completion. Their exact error messages and correction policies differ, so use the terms for your order rather than a generic coupon rule.

Check the submitted order, not just the original cart
After ordering, open the confirmation email and the order-details page. Compare the final subtotal, fulfilled items, quantities, and discounts with the promotion’s requirements.
- An item may have been cancelled, substituted, removed, or marked unavailable.
- A changed quantity or partial shipment may have reduced the qualifying subtotal.
- A refund, return, cancellation, or failed payment authorization can reverse or prevent eligibility.
- Taxes, shipping, service fees, tips, and other charges may not count toward a minimum-spend threshold.
- The final order may have been split into multiple orders, each below a threshold or outside the offer’s transaction-count rule.
If the order summary shows that an eligible checkout discount was missing when you submitted it, contact the merchant first. Provide the order number, receipt, the exact promotion, a copy of the terms, and screenshots showing the code or offer. Loblaws’ help page, marked updated June 1, 2026, states that customers who believe an eligible offer should have applied can contact the company for a review of the order and offer terms. Other retailers may offer a refund of the difference, a replacement voucher, or no adjustment; the merchant’s policy and the promotion terms determine the remedy.
If the promised benefit is a card statement credit or points award
For an issuer offer, check the card account rather than the merchant receipt. Confirm that the offer was added before the purchase, the charge posted to the same enrolled card, and the transaction met the spend, merchant, item, and timing conditions.

American Express U.S. offers
American Express says the qualifying purchase must be made using the same Card to which the offer was added. Its U.S. Amex Offers FAQ says credits generally appear within five business days, but processing can take up to 90 days after the offer period. That is an Amex Offers timetable, not a universal credit-card standard.
If the credit is not visible within that period, review enrollment, the card used, the qualifying transaction, and any return or cancellation. The FAQ directs cardholders to call the number on the card; U.S. customers can also use authenticated online chat.

The Canadian Amex Offers FAQ allows up to 90 days after the offer end date for the credit or points benefit. Use the Canadian offer’s own terms and contact instructions, which may differ from U.S. procedures.

Other issuers
Do not apply the Amex five-business-day or 90-day language to another bank. Issuers set their own enrollment requirements, qualifying-transaction definitions, posting schedules, and escalation channels. Check the offer page, card agreement, or rewards help center for the applicable deadline. If the transaction meets those rules and the stated period has passed, contact the issuer rather than the merchant.

For a missing checkout discount
Contact the retailer’s customer service or order-support team. Include:
- Order number and date
- Final receipt and order-details page
- Promotion name, code, and saved terms
- Items, quantities, subtotal, and fulfillment method
- Screenshot of the code entry or missing discount line
- Any cancellation, substitution, refund, or split-order notice
Ask specifically whether the merchant can adjust the completed order, issue a credit for the difference, or provide a replacement code. Keep the conversation reference and the response.

For a missing issuer credit or points
Contact the card issuer or rewards program. State the date you enrolled, the card used, merchant, transaction amount, offer period, and the date by which the terms say the benefit should post. Ask the representative to confirm whether the transaction was recognized as qualifying and whether a return, pending status, digital-wallet token, or split authorization affected it.
Never send a full card number, security code, or one-time password through an unverified email or social-media message. Use the phone number on the card or the issuer’s authenticated website or app.

Prevent the problem on your next purchase
- Enroll in a card-linked offer before opening checkout and confirm that the offer shows as active.
- Use the exact enrolled card, not another card saved in your wallet or browser.
- Save the terms and expiration date before buying.
- Build the cart with qualifying items and leave room above a minimum-spend threshold if the terms exclude shipping, tax, or other charges.
- Apply a merchant code early, then confirm the discount in the final order summary.
- Take a screenshot of the confirmation page and retain the receipt until a statement credit or points award posts.
- Track returns, cancellations, substitutions, and split shipments because they can change eligibility.
The decisive evidence is the promotion’s terms and your account-specific transaction record. A merchant controls a missing checkout reduction; an issuer controls a later statement credit or points award. Following that split, and waiting only through the stated issuer window, gives you the fastest route to a correction without assuming that one retailer or card’s rules apply everywhere.
