White-label hosting is a business arrangement in which a hosting provider supplies the servers, network, software and infrastructure, while another company sells hosting under its own brand. It is usually a branded form of reseller hosting: the reseller creates customer accounts, sets packages and prices, manages the customer relationship and often provides first-line support, without operating the underlying physical servers.
For a web designer, developer, marketing agency or managed-service provider, white-label hosting can create recurring revenue and keep clients within one service relationship. It is not passive income, however. The reseller still has support, billing, security, outage-communication and recovery responsibilities.

White-label hosting in plain English
The basic model is:
Hosting provider supplies infrastructure → reseller adds branding, pricing and customer service → customer buys from the reseller.
The upstream provider may remain largely invisible during ordinary customer interactions. Customers might see the reseller’s company name, logo, nameservers, control panel, invoices, support email address and client portal instead of the infrastructure provider’s branding.

- Entry-level NAS Personal Storage:UGREEN NAS DH2300 is your first and best NAS made easy. It is designed for beginners who want a simple, private way to store videos, photos and personal files, which is intuitive for users moving from cloud storage or external drives and move away from scattered date across devices. This entry-level NAS 2-bay perfect for personal entertainment, photo storage, and easy data backup (doesn't support Docker or virtual machines).
- Set Your Devices Free, Expand Your Digital World: This unified storage hub supports massive capacity up to 64TB.*Storage drives not included. Stop Deleting, Start Storing. You can store 22 million 3MB images, or 2 million 30MB songs, or 43K 1.5GB movies or 67 million 1MB documents! UGREEN NAS is a better way to free up storage across all your devices such as phones, computers, tablets and also does automatic backups across devices regardless of the operating system—Window, iOS, Android or macOS.
- The Smarter Long-term Way to Store: Unlike cloud storage with recurring monthly fees, a UGREEN NAS enclosure requires only a one-time purchase for long-term use. For example, you only need to pay $459.98 for a NAS, while for cloud storage, you need to pay $719.88 per year, $2,159.64 for 3 years, $3,599.40 for 5 years. You will save $6,738.82 over 10 years with UGREEN NAS! *NAS cost based on DH2300 + 12TB HDD; cloud cost based on 12TB plan (e.g. $59.99/month).
- Blazing Speed, Minimal Power: Equipped with a high-performance processor, 1GbE port, and 4GB RAM on Board, this NAS handles multiple tasks with ease. File transfers reach up to 125MB/s—a 1GB file takes only 8 seconds. Don't let slow clouds hold you back; they often need over 100 seconds for the same task. The difference is clear.
- Let AI Better Organize Your Memories: UGREEN NAS uses AI to tag faces, locations, texts, and objects—so you can effortlessly find any photo by searching for who or what's in it in seconds. It also automatically finds and deletes similar or duplicate photo, backs up live photos and allows you to share them with your friends or family with just one tap. Everything stays effortlessly organized, powered by intelligent tagging and recognition.
That separation is usually customer-facing rather than absolute anonymity. The upstream company may still be identifiable through IP-address ownership, reverse DNS, mail headers, abuse contacts, default error pages, status pages or technical-support escalation.
White-label hosting vs. reseller hosting
The terms overlap, but they emphasize different things:
- Reseller hosting describes the commercial and technical arrangement: one account owner purchases resources and allocates them to separate customer accounts.
- White-label hosting emphasizes the customer-facing brand: the reseller presents the service as its own product.
cPanel defines a reseller as an account owner who purchases system resources from a hosting provider and allocates them to cPanel accounts sold to other users. Reseller accounts generally receive a restricted version of Web Host Manager (WHM), rather than the root-level access available to a VPS or dedicated-server administrator. See cPanel’s reseller-account documentation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteA normal shared-hosting account with several domains is not necessarily a reseller account. Reseller hosting normally provides separate accounts, individual customer logins, package limits and reseller-level administration. cPanel explains the distinction in its guide to reseller accounts versus accounts with multiple domains.
How white-label hosting works
- Buy a reseller plan. The upstream host provisions resources such as storage, bandwidth, CPU capacity and a maximum number of customer accounts.
- Use WHM to manage the account. Web Host Manager lets the reseller create packages, create or suspend cPanel accounts and apply account-level limits. Reseller WHM is restricted; it is not full server administration.
- Create hosting packages. A package might specify storage, bandwidth, databases, email accounts, domains and other limits.
- Create separate customer accounts. Each client can receive an individual cPanel account rather than sharing one login with unrelated websites.
- Connect the brand. The reseller may configure a branded domain, private or anonymous nameservers, logo, colors, login page and customer-facing instructions.
- Sell the service. Hosting can be sold alone or bundled with website creation, maintenance, security, backups, domains, SSL certificates and support.
- Automate billing and provisioning. WHMCS or another platform can handle signups, recurring invoices, account provisioning, domains, support tickets and suspensions. Automation is not universal: some providers offer compatibility but do not include the billing software.
- Provide support and escalate infrastructure issues. The reseller remains the customer’s first point of contact unless a plan explicitly includes white-label support delivered directly to end users.
What the white-label package may include
Features vary substantially by provider and plan. Common possibilities include:
- Reseller WHM access
- Separate cPanel accounts
- Custom packages and resource limits
- Private or anonymous nameservers
- Custom logos, colors and login pages
- Branded invoices, emails and client portals
- SSL certificates and email accounts
- MySQL or MariaDB databases
- WordPress or application installers
- Migration assistance
- Backups and malware scanning
- Server monitoring and technical support
- Domain-registration and SSL-reseller tools
- WHMCS or another billing and provisioning platform
It helps to separate white labeling into five layers:
- Infrastructure: the server provider’s identity is hidden from normal customer interactions.
- Control panel: the cPanel or hosting-management interface carries the reseller’s branding.
- Billing: checkout, invoices and automated emails use the reseller’s identity.
- Support: the upstream provider handles or escalates issues without exposing its own brand.
- Product: the reseller defines packages, prices, terms and included services.
Many plans provide the first two layers but not complete branded billing or support. A plan described as “white label” should therefore be evaluated feature by feature.

Applications and examples
Web designers and developers
A designer can bundle hosting with website development, updates, backups, security and maintenance. Clients deal with one provider instead of being passed to a third-party host, while the designer can manage each website in a separate account.
Digital marketing agencies
An agency can include hosting in a monthly website-care package alongside monitoring, analytics, content updates, security checks and technical support. The hosting is often more valuable as part of this broader service than as a standalone markup on server space.
SEO agencies
Hosting can support technical maintenance, uptime monitoring and performance work. White-label hosting itself does not improve search rankings. Any SEO benefit depends on the actual reliability, security and performance of the hosting environment and the work performed on the website.
Managed-service providers
An IT provider can include website hosting as one component of a wider technology relationship. This may simplify account ownership and billing across a portfolio of small-business clients.

Entrepreneurs testing a hosting business
Reseller hosting lowers the capital required to test a brand because the entrepreneur does not need to buy servers, lease rack space or build a network. It does not remove the need for sales, customer service, policies, billing administration and incident management.
Franchises, memberships and multi-location businesses
Separate accounts can make permissions, billing, ownership and suspension easier to manage for client, franchise or member websites than one shared account containing unrelated sites.
Typical applications include basic shared hosting, white-label WordPress hosting, domains and SSL add-ons, staging and migration services, and bundled website-care plans. A conventional cPanel reseller account is generally intended for common PHP websites, WordPress and supported databases. It may not support Docker, unusual ports, persistent Node.js processes, custom daemons, root-level server modules or other specialized workloads. Confirm compatibility and acceptable-use rules before promising a platform.

Benefits of white-label hosting
Lower startup cost
The reseller avoids the capital expense of servers, data-center space and network construction. The provider supplies the underlying platform. This is a lower barrier to entry, not proof that the business will be profitable.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

- Billing and provisioning software
- Payment-processing fees
- Domain and SSL services
- Branding and website development
- Backups, monitoring or security add-ons
- Support labor or contractor time
- Marketing, taxes and regulatory overhead
Faster launch
Existing control panels, account templates and provisioning integrations can make it possible to launch more quickly than building a hosting platform from scratch.
Recurring revenue
Hosting can produce monthly or annual revenue and may improve retention when clients also rely on the reseller for maintenance and support. Revenue is not the same as profit: churn, payment fees and support time can absorb a substantial part of the recurring charge.
More valuable service bundles
An agency can sell a complete website-care package rather than a one-time website. The defensible value usually comes from the combined service—updates, security, backups, monitoring and responsive support—not simply from reselling storage.
Brand continuity
A branded portal, invoice and support address can create a smoother onboarding experience and keep the service relationship connected to the agency’s existing brand.

Individual cPanel accounts help separate customer credentials, permissions, quotas and billing. WHM can create, suspend and manage multiple accounts; its capabilities and restrictions are described in HostGator’s overview of reseller WHM.
A manageable upgrade path
A reseller can often move to a larger reseller plan, managed VPS or dedicated infrastructure as client numbers and workloads grow. That scalability is limited by the provider’s available plans, resource policies and migration process.

Costs, margins and the personal-finance reality
Evaluate white-label hosting as a service business, not as effortless passive income. A useful starting calculation is:
Monthly gross contribution = customer revenue − hosting plan − billing software − payment fees − support labor − add-ons − refunds, taxes and overhead.

Check renewal pricing rather than relying on an introductory rate. For example, HostGator states that promotional pricing may apply only to the initial term and renew at regular rates; see its reseller-hosting page.
Published prices are dynamic and can vary by term, geography, taxes, promotions and configuration. As commercial signals available on August 18, 2026:
- Namecheap: its reseller page listed Nebula at $19.88 per month, Galaxy Expert at $39.88 and Universe Pro at $58.88, with different account and storage allocations. WHMCS was presented as a separate paid option. Check the official reseller page and WHMCS licensing information for current terms.
- InMotion Hosting: its R-1000N plan was displayed from $19.99 per month and at $35.99 renewal, while its reseller offering advertised white-label branding, WHMCS, domain tools and support. Verify current terms on the official reseller page.
- Verpex: it markets white-label reseller hosting and says it is compatible with WHMCS, but explicitly states that WHMCS is not included and must be obtained separately. See its reseller-hosting page.
These figures are examples of published commercial positioning, not universal market prices or a recommendation. Calculate the cost at renewal and include the value of your time before setting a customer price.
Responsibilities and drawbacks
Limited technical control
Reseller WHM normally cannot provide root-level control. Depending on the provider, the reseller may be unable to restart services, change server-wide configuration, assign IP addresses freely or control server-wide backups. A HostGator explanation of reseller WHM limitations lists examples of functions unavailable to reseller users.

Dependence on the upstream provider
An outage, price increase, policy change, resource restriction or account cancellation can affect every customer. Keep current backups and understand how accounts, domains, data and billing records would be moved if the relationship ended.
Support obligations
Customers may expect the reseller to troubleshoot DNS, email, WordPress, plugins, passwords and application errors even when the reseller controls only the hosting account. “24/7 support” often means the provider supports the reseller; it does not necessarily mean the provider will speak directly to the reseller’s customers under the reseller’s brand.
Shared-resource constraints
Many entry-level reseller plans run on shared infrastructure. CPU, memory, entry-process, inode, database, email and fair-use limits can matter even when a plan advertises “unlimited” websites or bandwidth.
Security is divided
The provider may patch and secure the server, but the reseller and customer remain responsible for application updates, passwords, plugins, access control and data handling. Review malware scanning, isolation, WAF availability, DDoS protection, data-center locations and data-processing terms.
Backups are not the same as disaster recovery
Ask how often backups run, how long they are retained, whether they are stored separately, whether customers can restore files and databases, whether the reseller can restore a complete account and whether restoration times are defined. Test a file, database and full-account restoration before making strong promises.
Migration and policy risks
Moving many accounts can involve DNS propagation, email delivery, database compatibility, PHP versions, IP reputation, SSL renewal and customer downtime. Also check restrictions on bulk email, file storage, cryptocurrency mining, proxies, high-resource workloads and other prohibited uses.
White-label hosting vs. affiliate referrals
| White-label or reseller hosting | Affiliate referrals | |
|---|---|---|
| Customer relationship | The reseller normally owns the customer-facing relationship. | The hosting provider generally owns the account relationship. |
| Billing | The reseller may set prices and collect payment. | The provider handles checkout and billing. |
| Provisioning | The reseller may create and manage accounts through WHM and billing software. | The provider provisions and manages the service. |
| Support | The reseller usually handles first-line support. | The provider generally supports the customer directly. |
| Revenue | Potential recurring margin, with operating costs and obligations. | Commission or referral revenue, usually with less control. |
Choose affiliate referrals if you want to recommend a host without taking on billing, provisioning and technical-support responsibilities. HostGator describes this distinction on its reseller-hosting page.

How to choose a provider
- Define the workload. Estimate the number of accounts, storage, databases, email users, traffic and likely resource spikes.
- Verify branding depth. Ask whether custom nameservers, logos, login pages, invoices, automated emails, error pages and support communications can be branded.
- Confirm the account model. Check the number of cPanel accounts, customer logins, quotas and suspension controls. Do not substitute one multi-domain shared account for independent client accounts.
- Check the WHM boundary. Identify what reseller WHM can and cannot do, including IP management, service restarts, backups and server configuration.
- Price automation separately. Confirm whether WHMCS is included, separately licensed or merely compatible. Namecheap, for example, distinguishes WHMCS license tiers and visible branding; see its licensing guide.
- Model the full economics. Include renewal pricing, software, payment fees, support hours, refunds, taxes, backup costs and customer acquisition.
- Examine support. Determine whether support is reseller-only, whether end customers can be escalated, what response expectations apply and whether application issues are excluded.
- Test recovery. Confirm backup retention, separate storage, restoration access and realistic recovery times.
- Review security and compliance. Check patching, malware scanning, isolation, DDoS protection, data locations, privacy terms and abuse procedures.
- Check the exit plan. Ask how accounts, DNS, domains, certificates, backups and billing data can be exported or migrated.
- Read acceptable-use policies. Ensure the workloads you intend to sell are allowed before accepting customers.
How the main options fit different businesses
| Option | Best suited to | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| White-label reseller hosting | Agencies and developers with several clients who want branded accounts and recurring service revenue. | Less control and more customer-support responsibility. |
| Affiliate referrals | People who want referral commissions without operating the hosting relationship. | Less control and usually lower commercial ownership of the customer. |
| Managed VPS | Businesses needing more isolation, performance or customization without managing every server function. | Higher cost and more operational complexity than basic reseller hosting. |
| Unmanaged VPS or cloud server | Technically capable operators needing root access and custom software. | The operator handles security, monitoring, configuration and maintenance. |
| Dedicated server | Larger workloads requiring substantial resource isolation. | Higher cost and greater administration responsibility. |
| White-label site-management platform | Agencies managing client sites through a branded portal rather than selling conventional cPanel accounts. | It may not provide wholesale account allocation or a traditional WHMCS storefront. SiteGround’s model is an example of this different approach: see its official page. |
Is white-label hosting right for you?
It is usually a sensible choice when you already have clients, can package hosting with higher-value maintenance and are prepared to provide reliable first-line support. It is especially practical for a small agency that wants separate accounts, branded communication and a relatively low-cost route to recurring revenue.
Affiliate referrals are better when you do not want billing, provisioning, abuse handling or support obligations. A managed VPS or cloud server is more appropriate when clients need root-level control, custom software, Docker, unusual server processes or sustained high resource usage.
Before launching, price your labor, define what support includes, test restoration and write clear terms for uptime, backups, email, maintenance, suspension and acceptable use. The upstream provider may operate the servers, but your business still owns the customer promise.
