The app will stop receiving new comics and readers will no longer be able to read in it that day. Members can browse their library through December 21 to complete an import, and Marvel says the app is scheduled for removal on December 28. A replacement, Marvel Comics powered by WEBTOON, is planned for November 16 and is expected to accept imports of existing Marvel Unlimited libraries and reading history. That announcement does not yet guarantee that every separately purchased or redeemed issue will transfer.
The practical distinction is between subscription access, purchased or redeemed comics, and the migration of your account data. Each has a different answer and deadline.

The Marvel Unlimited shutdown dates that matter
Marvel has announced several dates rather than one single closing moment. Reading access ends before the old app is removed, while the library-browsing window continues after reading stops.
| Date | What Marvel says |
|---|---|
| October 5, 2026 | New Marvel Unlimited sign-ups stopped. Members who were already subscribed on this date receive the stated free-access extension through December 7. |
| November 16, 2026 | Planned launch of Marvel Comics powered by WEBTOON. Marvel says members will be able to import their existing Marvel Unlimited library and reading history. |
| December 7, 2026 | The Marvel Unlimited app stops receiving new content, and reading comics in the app ends. The free extension for eligible members also ends. |
| December 21, 2026 | Members can still browse their library to complete the import. Marvel does not say that comic reading continues during this browsing period. |
| December 28, 2026 | The Marvel Unlimited app is scheduled to be removed and sunset. |
These dates come from Marvel’s timeline FAQ and shutdown announcement, both dated October 7, 2026.

What happens to subscription-library comics
A Marvel Unlimited subscription gives you a time-limited right to use the service’s catalog; it is not the same as owning every issue in the catalog. Marvel’s Subscriber Agreement describes the subscription right as limited and personal for the subscription period and warns that access can be reduced or lost if the service is discontinued.
For members who were active on October 5, Marvel says access remains free through December 7. That is a specific eligibility rule and end date. It does not extend the free-reading promise to people who joined after October 5, and it does not extend comic reading through December 21. On December 7, the app is no longer a reading service even though your library can still be browsed for a further period.
Marvel has not promised that the entire subscription catalog will become a permanently readable collection in the successor app. The announced import concerns your “existing Marvel Unlimited library and reading history,” not an ownership conversion of all subscription issues. Treat titles you read through the subscription as accessible only under the transition terms Marvel has published.

What happens to comics you purchased or redeemed
Purchased and redeemed issues are a separate category from comics available only through a subscription. Marvel’s May 14, 2026 support article says these issues appear in the current app’s My Library, carry a Purchased label, and can be filtered as purchased. It also says a subscription is not required to view that library. The article is available at Marvel’s purchased and redeemed comics help page.
Marvel also says purchased and redeemed comics can currently be accessed on compatible devices when you sign in with the same Marvel account. Its device-sync guidance is at this support article. Those statements describe access while the current service operates.
They are not a post-shutdown guarantee. The sunset announcement does not specifically say that every separately purchased or redeemed issue will transfer to the new app, nor does it explain how an unavailable issue would be handled. Until Marvel publishes purchase-specific migration terms, do not assume that the current no-subscription viewing rule means permanent access after the old app disappears.

How the successor app and library import fit together
Marvel plans to launch Marvel Comics powered by WEBTOON on November 16, before the old app’s December 7 reading cutoff. Marvel’s announcement says: “When the Marvel Comics app launches on 11/16/2026, Marvel Unlimited members will be able to import their existing Marvel Unlimited library and reading history to the Marvel Comics app.” The same announcement says further details about the process will be shared as launch approaches. Read the full wording at Marvel Help Center.

The announcement establishes an intended import of library and history, but it leaves several operational questions open:
- Marvel has not published the exact import steps or the required account-linking action.
- It has not stated whether every purchased or redeemed issue is included in the import.
- It has not explained what happens when a purchased issue is unavailable in the new app.
- It has not announced a closure-specific refund policy for subscriptions.
Those are unresolved policy details, not evidence that your purchases will be erased. The safe approach is to preserve your account information and complete the import as soon as Marvel provides the procedure.

What to do before the old app stops reading
- Confirm the Marvel account you use. Sign in to Marvel Unlimited and note the email or account identifier associated with your library. Use that same account when Marvel enables the import; the current support guidance ties cross-device purchased access to a Marvel account login.
- Review My Library. Use the Purchased filter and check that redeemed and purchased issues you expect to keep are present. This creates a practical inventory while the current library is still available.
- Save your own transaction records. Keep purchase receipts, redemption emails, order numbers, or screenshots showing issue names and the account used. These records cannot force a transfer, but they give you evidence if an item is missing and Marvel later provides a support process.
- Install or open the successor app after its planned November 16 launch. Follow Marvel’s published import instructions rather than creating a second account. The exact screens and any account-linking requirement have not yet been announced.
- Finish migration before December 21. After December 7, the old app is scheduled to remain available for library browsing only. Use that window to check what imported and to report discrepancies through Marvel’s current support channels.
- Do not wait for December 28. That is the scheduled app-removal date, not the date to begin moving your data. Waiting until removal risks losing the ability to inspect the old library for yourself.
Does your Marvel account itself disappear?
Marvel’s public shutdown notices describe the end of the Marvel Unlimited app and the import of its library and reading history. They do not say that your broader Marvel account will be deleted, and they do not provide a separate account-closure procedure. They also do not confirm whether the successor app will use the same sign-in flow without an additional linking step.
Accordingly, distinguish the account from the service: retain access to the email address and credentials used for Marvel Unlimited, but wait for Marvel’s migration instructions before assuming that an account automatically carries every entitlement into the new app.
What about subscription refunds or unused time?
The Subscriber Agreement contains two relevant provisions. Its general payment language says payments are nonrefundable and that Marvel does not provide refunds or credits for partially used periods. Elsewhere, it reserves Marvel’s discretion to provide consideration and says Marvel will provide a credit, refund, discount, or other consideration if it suspends or discontinues a subscriber service.
Best Value
- It can be a gift option
- Comes with secure packaging
- Helpful in various ways
Marvel’s sunset FAQ reviewed for this transition does not state which provision will govern the 2026 closure, whether any prorated payment will be offered, or how eligibility would be calculated. Do not budget on receiving a refund, but do not assume one is impossible either. Check Marvel’s updated FAQ or billing notice for the closure-specific policy before the final date.
Reading after Marvel Unlimited: what a print collection can and cannot do
If you want permanent access to a particular storyline, you can separately identify physical collected editions and buy the volumes that contain it. This is a different strategy from importing a digital library: print contents, formats, and availability vary, and no collected-edition purchase reproduces a subscriber’s entire Marvel Unlimited history automatically. Use print copies for selected stories you specifically want to keep, not as a substitute for the announced digital migration.
How to interpret the transition without conflating access types
- Subscription comics: reading in the old app ends December 7, with the stated free extension only for members active on October 5.
- Purchased or redeemed comics: currently visible without a subscription and synced across compatible devices through a Marvel account, but individual post-sunset transfer has not been expressly guaranteed.
- Library and reading history: Marvel plans to let members import them into Marvel Comics powered by WEBTOON after the planned November 16 launch.
- Library browsing: available in the old app through December 21 for completing the import; browsing is not the same as continued reading.
- App availability: removal and sunset are scheduled for December 28.
Bottom line
Plan around December 7 as the last day to read in Marvel Unlimited, December 21 as the last stated day to inspect the old library for migration, and December 28 as the scheduled app-removal date. Marvel has announced an import of your library and reading history into the planned successor app, but it has not yet guaranteed that every purchased or redeemed issue will transfer. Verify your purchased list now, keep account and transaction records, and follow Marvel’s updated migration and refund instructions when they are published.
