In the United States, X currently lists Premium+ at $40 per month or $395 per year on the web. The plan is ad-free across most areas, not a guarantee that every sponsored or promotional item will disappear.
What Musk announced in October 2023
On October 20, 2023, Musk said X would introduce two additional Premium subscription tiers. One would cost less and include the platform’s features without reducing the number of ads users saw; the more expensive option would remove ads. He did not announce prices, a launch date, or a complete feature list in that post. Reuters’ report on the announcement captured the plan as it was described then—not a final specification of the product X would eventually sell.
What X launched—and how the price changed
X later introduced three individual subscription tiers: Basic, Premium, and Premium+. The top tier became the ad-free option, while the middle tier offered reduced ads in selected timelines. The eventual lineup and its features developed after Musk’s brief announcement; the original post should not be read as a promise that the final product would match every detail exactly.

What the three tiers cost and how their ad treatment differs

These figures are from X’s official pricing and feature page. The annual Premium+ plan is $85 less than paying the listed $40 monthly price for 12 months ($480), before taxes or other charges. That is a nominal comparison, not a guarantee about the final amount for every location or payment method.

App Store prices are different
Apple’s U.S. App Store listing shows X Premium Plus at $50 per month or $490 per year, and X Premium at $11 per month or $114.99 per year. Those are iOS in-app prices; they are not the web rates above. Compare the price shown on x.com with the amount in the U.S. App Store listing before subscribing. Other countries, currencies, taxes, and billing methods can produce different totals.
Does Premium+ really remove every ad?
No. X describes Premium+ as ad-free across most areas, including the For You and Following timelines, post replies, and profiles. Its documentation also says occasional sponsored content may still appear. The more accurate expectation is substantially less paid advertising in covered areas—not a promise that every commercial message, creator promotion, recommendation, or other sponsored item will vanish. X’s feature description includes both the ad-free summary and the more qualified detail.

Regular Premium offers about 50% fewer ads in the For You and Following timelines, with roughly twice as many organic posts between promoted posts, according to X. That reduction does not cover every advertising surface. X lists limitations including ads on profiles and in post replies, Amplify video ads, promoted events in Explore, promoted trends, and promoted accounts to follow. If the main reason for subscribing is to remove ads, Premium and Premium+ are not interchangeable.

What Premium+ includes beyond ad reduction
X’s current feature summary lists Premium+ as including Premium features, higher Grok usage limits, the largest reply prioritization, Radar Search, and Articles. X says features can change and availability may vary by platform and location, so a feature shown in the general plan description may not be available to every account in every region.
Premium and Premium+ accounts are reviewed for eligibility before receiving a blue checkmark. Paying for a tier is not, by itself, a guarantee of approval, reach, revenue, or a particular level of visibility. Consult X’s current plan details for the eligibility terms and the features currently attached to each tier.

Is Premium+ worth the price?
At $40 per month on the U.S. web plan, Premium+ costs five times as much as the $8 monthly Premium plan. The decision is therefore less about paying a little extra for a checkmark and more about whether the ad reduction and additional tools are worth a substantial recurring expense to you.

- Heavy X users: If you spend many hours in timelines and replies and find the advertising disruptive, Premium+ may offer useful convenience. Its sponsored-content caveat still applies.
- People who want fewer ads, but not the full bundle: Premium costs less and reduces ads in two timelines, but X lists several surfaces where ads can remain. Choose it only if that narrower reduction meets your needs.
- Grok, Radar Search, or Articles users: The bundle may be more valuable if you regularly use these features. Check whether they are available on your platform and in your location before treating them as part of the value you will receive.
- Creators: Reply prioritization and other Premium-linked features may matter, but subscription does not guarantee audience growth or earnings.
- Users who dislike the content, not the ads: Removing or reducing ads will not change the quality of posts, recommendations, or conversations you see.
