What can be compared reliably is what Nabisco and Kellanova say about Premium and Zesta, including the serving sizes and sodium on their published labels.
What the published product information can—and can’t—tell you
Nabisco describes Premium Original as having light, flaky layers and a salted top. Kellanova describes Zesta as “Crispy, crunchy and a little bit toasty.” These are manufacturers’ descriptions, not independent tasting results. A brand’s sensory language can suggest what to look for, but it cannot establish which cracker tastes better.

The available product pages and consumer discussion do not identify all seven crackers in this title’s test or establish its winner. A separate Reddit discussion about Premium and Zesta includes a blind-test claim favoring Premium, but replies disagree. The figures are label information, not independent laboratory measurements: Nabisco’s page was reviewed in 2026, but does not state a publication date; Kellanova SmartLabel says its Zesta label was last updated June 7, 2026. The serving weights differ, so comparing the sodium totals without noting the weights can give a misleading impression. Based on the listed figures, Zesta has about 14.7 mg sodium per gram and Premium about 10 mg per gram. Check the package in hand because labels and formulations can change. Which differences matter in a real taste test?
A useful comparison needs tasting observations, not just brand descriptions. For each cracker, record flavor and perceived saltiness, crispness or flakiness, density, and whether it stays intact under a topping. If you often eat saltines with soup, chili, or dips, note whether the cracker keeps its texture after dipping. Comparing price also requires current prices and package weights; the product pages reviewed here do not establish comparable prices.
To make a winner credible, taste the actual products in the roster under the same conditions and record the results. Identify the product and package tested, since brand variants and package sizes matter. Without that evidence, there is no substantiated winner to name.

Variants, ingredients, and allergy checks
Premium Original and Premium Unsalted Tops are different variants. Nabisco lists five crackers (13.5 g) of Original at 60 calories and 135 mg sodium, and the same serving of Unsalted Tops at 60 calories and 115 mg sodium. “Unsalted Tops” does not mean sodium-free. Confirm the current package for the product you buy.

The referenced Premium and Zesta products list wheat and soy ingredients or allergens. Nabisco lists enriched wheat flour and soybean oil for Premium; Kellanova’s Zesta label lists enriched flour and vegetable oil and declares wheat and soy. Ingredients and allergen statements can vary by product and change over time, so read the package label rather than relying on a brand-level description.

How the brands suggest serving and storing them
Nabisco suggests Premium for soups, spreads, toppings, recipes, and crumb coatings, and directs customers to reseal the sleeve and store crackers in a cool, dry place. Kellanova suggests Zesta with soup, chili, spreads, dips, meats, and cheese. These are manufacturers’ serving suggestions, not comparative findings about how well either cracker performs.
Kellanova’s product page also includes customer complaints posted in 2026 about taste and perceived recipe changes. Those comments are individual customer feedback; they do not establish that the recipe changed.
