The change is narrowing VMware’s service-provider ecosystem, ending the former white-label model, separating CSPs from resellers and putting VMware Cloud Foundation at the center of Broadcom’s strategy.
For customers, this is not an immediate shutdown of every hosted VMware service. However, many providers were not invited into the new program, and contracts for affected customers may not be renewed after their current terms end. With many transition arrangements expected to run toward March 2027, customers and providers should treat the next contract cycle as a financial, operational and migration-planning deadline.

What changed at a glance
| Area | Former model | New model | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Program access | Broader VCSP ecosystem | Invitation-only | Historical VMware partner status does not prove current VCSP eligibility. |
| Service model | Included a range of service companies and white-label arrangements | Focused on providers operating and delivering their own cloud services | Customers must identify who owns the infrastructure, licenses and support obligation. |
| Channel role | Some partners combined resale and hosted services | Partners must choose CSP or reseller status | Providers may need to change their business model or transfer customers. |
| Platform focus | Broad VMware-related services | VMware Cloud Foundation, including VCF 9.0 | Providers need deeper platform, operations and infrastructure capabilities. |
| Customer timing | Existing contracts continued under their terms | Renewal is uncertain for non-renewing providers | Contract dates, portability and exit rights require immediate review. |
Broadcom’s stated aim is to make “CSP” mean a provider that uses VMware subscription licensing, operates its own infrastructure and packages a finished service with a clear service-level commitment. That is different from a consultancy or outsourcer managing VMware systems located entirely in a customer’s own data center. CRN’s reporting provides the core details of the restructuring.
1. The new program is live and selective
The previous VCSP program ended on October 31, 2025. Broadcom launched its replacement on November 1, 2025, and invitations were sent to selected partners.
#1 Best Overall
- Ultra-Portable: Slim, portable, and light weight allowing you to protect your investment wherever you go
- Ergonomic Comfort: Doubles as an ergonomic stand with two adjustable height settings
- Optimized for Laptop Carrying: The metal mesh provides your laptop with a stable laptop carrying surface
- Ultra-Quiet Fans: Three ultra-quiet fans create a noise-free environment for you
- Extra Usb Ports: Extra USB port and power switch design allows for connecting more USB devices. Warm Tips: The packaged cable is USB to USB connection. Type C connection devices need to prepare an Type C to USB adapter
Broadcom has not disclosed the exact number of former partners that were excluded. CRN reported that the number could be “hundreds, if not thousands,” but that is an attributed estimate—not an official partner-count reduction or verified percentage.
The practical test for a customer is specific: ask whether the provider is authorized under the new VCSP program, which legal entity holds that authorization, and what geographies and services it covers. A provider’s old VMware badge, certification or historical VCSP status is not enough.
2. Existing contracts may continue, but renewal is not assured
Broadcom’s reported position is that customers of providers that do not renew under the new program can generally remain covered until their existing contracts expire. Many affected agreements are expected to run until around March 2027.
March 2027 should be treated as a major planning marker, not a universal statutory deadline. The actual date depends on each customer’s contract, renewal language and provider arrangement. A provider may continue operating during the current term while still being unable to offer the same service after expiration.
Before assuming continuity, review:
- Contract expiration, auto-renewal and notice dates.
- VMware license ownership and entitlement terms.
- Support and escalation obligations.
- Price-adjustment clauses and minimum capacity commitments.
- Data export, portability and exit-assistance rights.
- Backup retention, disaster-recovery obligations and restoration testing.
- Responsibility for hardware refreshes, patches and lifecycle management.
Operational support today does not guarantee future licensing, capacity expansion, hardware refreshes or Broadcom escalation support.
3. White-label VMware cloud services are being phased out
The former white-label model ended with the old program on October 31, 2025. The reported transition means affected white-label arrangements do not have a long-term future under the new structure, with March 2027 identified as a key endpoint for many arrangements.

- Dual USB Hub: With a built-in dual USB hub, the laptop fan enables you to connect additional USB devices to your laptop, providing extra connectivity options for your peripherals. Warm tips: The packaged cable is a USB-to-USB connection. Type C connection devices require a Type C to USB adapter. Please plug the cooling pad's USB cable into a 5V 1A adapter for best performance; otherwise, the fans may fail to spin or run at very low speed.
- Whisper-Quiet Operation: Enjoy a noise-free and interference-free environment with super quiet fans, allowing you to focus on your work or entertainment without distractions.
- Enhanced Cooling Performance: The laptop cooling pad features 5 built-in fans (big fan: 4.72-inch, small fans: 2.76-inch), all with blue LEDs. 2 On/Off switches enable simultaneous control of all 5 fans and LEDs. Simply press the switch to select 1 fan working, 4 fans working, or all 5 working together.
- Ergonomic Design: The laptop cooling stand also serves as an ergonomic stand, offering 6 adjustable height settings that enable you to customize the angle for optimal comfort during gaming, movie watching, or working for extended periods. Ideal gift for both the back-to-school season and Father's Day.
- Secure and Universal Compatibility: Designed with 2 stoppers on the front surface, this laptop cooler prevents laptops from slipping and keeps 12-17 inch laptops—including Apple Macbook Pro Air, HP, Alienware, Dell, ASUS, and more—cool and secure during use.
Three models should be distinguished:
- White-label service: A company sells a branded cloud service while relying on another provider’s VMware infrastructure or authorization.
- Direct VCSP service: An authorized provider operates its own infrastructure and delivers a packaged VMware cloud service under its own operating and support model.
- Resale: A partner sells VMware products or subscriptions without operating the underlying hosted cloud service.
This does not mean every branded managed VMware service disappears immediately. It does mean customers should identify the actual infrastructure owner, licensing entity, service operator and support provider before renewal.
4. Partners must choose between CSP and reseller status
Under the reported channel structure, a partner must choose to operate as either a CSP or a reseller. The change affects businesses that previously combined license resale, hosted infrastructure, managed services, implementation work and professional services.
This is a business-model decision, not merely a change to a portal badge. A provider should assess:
- Whether its main value comes from operating infrastructure or advising and procuring for customers.
- How much recurring service revenue depends on hosted VMware workloads.
- Whether it can meet the technical, capital and support requirements of a complete cloud service.
- Who owns the customer relationship, margin and operational responsibility after a transfer.
A company that cannot justify building or operating a qualifying cloud service may be better suited to the reseller path—or may need to transfer or sell its VMware customer book.
5. Broadcom wants fewer, deeper providers
The new program favors providers with the scale and technical depth to design, deploy, operate and support private cloud. Broadcom’s preferred providers are expected to offer clear service-level agreements and specialized services such as disaster recovery as a service, sovereign cloud, backup as a service and container as a service.
This is a shift away from a broad umbrella covering many types of VMware-related companies. It favors providers that can deliver an end-to-end outcome rather than simply resell licenses or coordinate third parties.

For customers, authorization and capability are separate questions. A provider may be technically capable but not part of the new VCSP program. Conversely, participation alone does not prove that the provider has the right geography, security controls, disaster-recovery design or operational quality for a particular workload.
6. VMware Cloud Foundation—and VCF 9.0—is central
Broadcom is positioning VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) as the strategic center of the partner ecosystem. CRN’s coverage specifically identifies VCF 9.0 as a focus.
The intended proposition is a managed private cloud that combines private-cloud control with a more public-cloud-like consumption and operating experience. Broadcom also presents VCF as a platform for workload repatriation from public cloud and for specialized regional or sovereign services.

Whether a managed VCF service is cheaper, safer or more predictable depends on utilization, licensing, hardware, staffing, networking, backup, disaster recovery, provider pricing and contract commitments.
Ask a provider for its VCF version, upgrade policy, hardware support status, storage architecture, tenant-isolation controls, monitoring model, Kubernetes support and disaster-recovery design. Also ask who pays when a required platform upgrade or hardware refresh affects the service price.
7. Broadcom is using partners to compete with public cloud
Broadcom does not need to become a hyperscaler with a worldwide data-center footprint. Its strategy relies on VCSPs to deliver VMware-based cloud services that can compete for selected workloads.

Potential use cases include:
- Repatriating steady VMware workloads from a hyperscaler.
- Retaining application compatibility while avoiding self-operated private-cloud infrastructure.
- Meeting regional, sovereignty or data-residency requirements.
- Obtaining a managed hybrid-cloud operating model.
Moving a workload from a hyperscaler to a VMware service provider is not automatically cheaper or simpler. A meaningful comparison must include VMware subscription licensing, compute and storage, network egress, backup, disaster recovery, management fees, minimum commitments, migration costs, application changes and exit terms.
What to compare
| Cost or risk | Question to ask |
|---|---|
| Capacity | Are charges based on actual consumption, reserved capacity or a minimum node commitment? |
| Licensing | Who owns the VMware entitlement, and what happens if the provider relationship ends? |
| Network | Are ingress, egress, private connectivity and cross-region traffic charged separately? |
| Resilience | Are backup and DR included, and what are the contractual RPO and RTO? |
| Exit | How long will data remain available, in what format, and at what cost? |
8. Portability exists only within defined eligibility rules
Customers should not assume that VMware workloads or VCF licenses can move freely between every provider and cloud. The reported coverage notes that VCF license portability to public-cloud services is tied to then-current Certified Cloud Services and active eligible providers.
Verify portability in the customer’s own entitlement documents and contract. Marketing language that says a workload is “portable” may not answer whether the license, support entitlement, networking configuration, data and operational tooling can actually move to the desired destination.
What customers should do before March 2027
- Ask for current status. Obtain written confirmation of whether the provider received an invitation to and participates in the new VCSP program.
- Confirm the legal entities. Identify the authorized provider, infrastructure owner, licensing entity, subcontractors and support provider.
- Map the contract. Record expiration, renewal notice, termination, price-change, minimum-capacity and assignment provisions.
- Inventory the environment. Document workloads, dependencies, storage, network paths, backups, DR sites, versions and recovery objectives.
- Test recovery. Validate that backups can be restored and that recovery procedures do not depend on an expiring provider relationship.
- Review portability. Confirm license, data-export and migration rights in writing, including any provider or cloud eligibility restrictions.
- Evaluate successors. Compare at least one continuing VCSP, one alternative hosted VMware option and a non-VMware migration path where practical.
- Require a transition plan. Set milestones for discovery, contract assignment or new procurement, pilot migration, testing and cutover.
Questions to send to a provider
- Are you an active participant in the new VCSP program, and which legal entity is authorized?
- Is our service direct, subcontracted or white-label?
- Who owns our VMware licenses, backups, runbooks and operational data?
- What happens to support, capacity expansion and security updates after our current term?
- What are the exact renewal, termination and migration dates?
- What exit assistance, export format and migration charges apply?
- Which VCF version and hardware platform support our service?
- What are the contracted RPO, RTO, SLA remedies and escalation path?
What providers should do
Remain or qualify as a VCSP
This is the best fit for an organization that operates infrastructure and can deliver a complete, SLA-backed VMware cloud service. The trade-off is greater technical investment, capital exposure and concentration in Broadcom’s platform direction.
Operate as a reseller
This suits organizations whose main value is procurement, advisory work, implementation or account management. It avoids some infrastructure obligations but may reduce control over recurring hosted-service revenue. Under the reported model, the partner cannot combine both roles as before.

Transfer or sell the VMware customer book
This may be the practical route for an excluded provider that cannot justify the new program’s requirements. The transition must address customer consent, contract assignment, valuation, data handoff, support continuity, staff knowledge and responsibility for unresolved incidents.

- 9 Super Cooling Fans: The 9-core laptop cooling pad can efficiently cool your laptop down, this laptop cooler has the air vent in the top and bottom of the case, you can set different modes for the cooling fans.
- Ergonomic comfort: The gaming laptop cooling pad provides 8 heights adjustment to choose. You can adjust the suitable angle by your needs to relieve the fatigue of the back and neck effectively.

- Whisper Quiet: The 9 fans of the laptop cooling stand are all added with capacitor components to reduce working noise. the gaming laptop cooler is almost quiet enough not to notice even on max setting.
Providers should not wait until contract expiration. A customer transfer made without documented runbooks, tested backups and clear escalation ownership creates financial and operational risk for both parties.
Is managed VCF still the right choice?
The answer depends on workload economics and the customer’s appetite for vendor concentration.
| Option | May fit when | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Managed VCF through a VCSP | You need VMware compatibility, managed operations, private-cloud control or regional hosting. | Quote-based pricing, provider dependence, capacity commitments and Broadcom concentration. |
| Self-managed private cloud | You have the skills, hardware, facilities and scale to operate the platform. | Higher internal operational responsibility and capital planning. |
| Public-cloud VMware service | You need integration with a hyperscaler’s regions and native services. | Node minimums, network costs, commitment terms and potentially less bespoke support. |
| Native public-cloud modernization | Applications can be refactored and benefit from elasticity or cloud-native services. | Migration complexity, redesign costs and possible loss of VMware compatibility. |
| Alternative virtualization platform | You want to reduce VMware dependence and can absorb platform migration work. | Conversion, retraining, tooling, support and application-compatibility risks. |
| Colocation plus managed services | You want dedicated infrastructure with third-party operational support. | You retain more responsibility for architecture, capacity and lifecycle decisions. |
For comparison, Google Cloud VMware Engine pricing lists on-demand and one- and three-year commitment options, with a standard three-node minimum and a documented single-node option for pilot testing. Prices vary by region, node configuration, licensing and commitment. AWS and Microsoft Azure also offer hosted VMware options through VMware Cloud on AWS and Azure VMware Solution; current commercial terms should be verified for the required region and configuration.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBottom line
Broadcom’s new VCSP program is a selective restructuring, not an instant termination of every hosted VMware environment. The key changes are already in effect: the program is invite-only, white-label arrangements are being phased out, CSP and reseller roles are separated, and VMware Cloud Foundation is the strategic platform.
Customers should treat the provider’s current VCSP status, contract end date, portability rights and exit plan as financial diligence items. Providers should decide whether they can operate a deep, scalable VCF service or whether resale and customer-book transfer are more sustainable. Waiting for March 2027 is likely to leave too little time for a controlled transition.
