Walmart owns Vizio and is moving certain newer Vizio OS products from Vizio-account sign-in to Walmart-account sign-in. But that does not mean every Vizio account has already been forcibly converted, or that Walmart automatically receives every detail of your viewing history.
The important distinctions are your TV’s software generation, whether you merge accounts, and whether you separately consent to combine Vizio OS data with Walmart account data. The main guidance below applies to U.S. customers; availability and account rules can vary by product, firmware, and region.

The short answer
Vizio is transitioning customers toward Walmart-account sign-in. According to Vizio’s account terms, a Walmart account is required beginning in 2026 for certain Vizio OS products to access smart-TV functionality, including features such as WatchFree+, VIZIOgram, and some new features and updates.

Older Vizio OS products may continue to support a Vizio account for a limited period, and converting an older account may be optional. Therefore, “Vizio accounts are becoming Walmart accounts” is directionally correct but too broad if it suggests that every owner must immediately merge accounts.

There are four separate concepts:
- Vizio account: The legacy account used for some Vizio services, device registration, subscriptions, support, and smart-TV features.
- Walmart account: The account increasingly used to access newer Vizio OS products.
- Account merge: A process that moves Vizio account information into a Walmart account and makes the old Vizio account inaccessible.
- Data-combination consent: A separate privacy choice about whether Vizio OS data is combined with Walmart account data.
A Walmart sign-in and a consent to combine viewing or activity data are related, but they are not the same decision.
Why Walmart is changing Vizio account sign-in
Walmart acquired Vizio and is standardizing account access across parts of the Vizio ecosystem. Walmart says it is progressively implementing unified login for new Vizio OS televisions and onn televisions powered by Vizio.
The broader strategy also involves connected-TV advertising, content distribution, personalization, and commerce. In its March 2026 announcement, Walmart described efforts to connect content and commerce through Vizio’s TV platform.

That does not by itself prove that every viewing record is automatically joined with a Walmart shopping profile. Vizio’s privacy materials describe that as a separate choice.
Which Vizio products are affected?
The requirement is product- and software-dependent. Vizio’s published terms refer broadly to Vizio OS products, including internet-connected televisions and other products using Vizio-branded operating systems such as SmartCast or Vizio OS. That does not mean every Vizio television, soundbar, or legacy device follows the same process.
- Certain newer Vizio OS products: A Walmart account is required for smart-TV functionality.
- Older Vizio OS products: Vizio-account support may remain available temporarily, and conversion may be optional.
- Legacy or non-smart products: The same account requirement may not apply, but Vizio’s public materials do not establish one universal rule for every model.
Do not assume that a Walmart account is required to use the physical display for every purpose. The documented requirement concerns smart-TV functionality on certain products. Connecting an external device through HDMI should not automatically be confused with accessing the full Vizio smart platform, although the exact behavior depends on the model and firmware.
Do you have to create a Walmart account?
There is no single answer for every Vizio owner.
If you have an affected newer Vizio OS product and want to use its smart features, Vizio says you need a Walmart account. Vizio also says a Walmart account can be created free during setup or online at Walmart.com.

Importantly, declining to merge an existing Vizio account does not necessarily let you avoid Walmart sign-in. You may keep Vizio account information separate while creating or using a separate Walmart account for a newer television that requires one.
Your main choices

What happens when you merge accounts?
Vizio’s account terms say that when an eligible Vizio account is converted:
- Vizio account information is added to the Walmart account.
- The old Vizio account is no longer accessible.
- You use the Walmart account to sign in to supported Vizio OS products, the Vizio website, and the Vizio mobile app.
- Devices previously linked to the Vizio account can be linked to the Walmart account.
Vizio does not describe an ordinary self-service “unmerge” process. Treat the decision as effectively permanent unless Vizio support confirms another option for your account.
This is more than a cosmetic login change. Before accepting a merge, review your device list, subscriptions, support records, and any information you may need for a warranty or service claim.
What if you do not want to merge?
Vizio says that your Vizio account information can remain separate from Walmart account information if you do not merge. Where the device supports it, you may continue using the Vizio account.
However, a newer Vizio OS product that requires Walmart sign-in may still require you to create or use a Walmart account. You can use a separate Walmart account rather than merging your existing Vizio account, but that account will still be subject to the applicable Walmart terms and privacy practices.
Vizio also says customers may delete the old Vizio account if they no longer want to maintain it. Do not delete it until you have confirmed that you do not need its device registration, subscriptions, saved preferences, support history, or information relevant to a claim.
What information does Walmart receive?
Vizio’s privacy policy distinguishes information needed to provide account and smart-TV functionality from broader categories of Vizio OS data.

When you sign in to a Vizio OS product with a Walmart account, Vizio says it may provide Walmart information reasonably necessary to provide the service, including:
- Contact details
- Payment information
- Subscription information
- Account authentication and security information
Vizio identifies the following categories as Vizio OS Data:
- Viewing Data
- Activity Data
- Mobile App Data
- Mobile Streaming Data
Vizio says these categories are not combined with Walmart account data unless you consent to that combination. The relevant choice is described in Vizio’s notice about combining Vizio OS Data with Walmart account data.

The careful conclusion is not “Walmart automatically gets your complete viewing history.” It is this: some account and device information may be used or transferred to provide the service, while combining Vizio OS usage data with Walmart account data is presented as a separate consent decision.
Is viewing history automatically combined with Walmart data?
Not according to the distinction in Vizio’s current privacy materials. Signing in with a Walmart account and consenting to combine Vizio OS Data are separate events.
If you consent, Walmart processes the combined information under the Walmart Customer Privacy Notice. If you do not consent, Vizio says the identified Vizio OS Data categories remain separate from Walmart account data.
This does not mean that no information is processed. Information needed for authentication, device operation, subscriptions, or other requested functionality may still be handled. It also does not mean that opting out removes all advertising.
Advertising opt-outs and the TV advertiser ID
Vizio says that if a Walmart account has opted out of the sale or sharing of personal information, including targeted advertising, that preference will be honored on account-linked Vizio OS products with the latest firmware supporting the feature.

That is not a promise that advertisements disappear. You may continue to see ads, but they may be less personalized. Firmware support also matters, so the result may differ by model and software version.
Vizio publishes these menu paths for resetting the TV advertising identifier:
- Vizio OS products after 2024:
Menu > Privacy & Legal > Advertising > Reset TV Advertiser ID - Vizio OS products before 2024:
Menu > Admin & Privacy > Advertising > Reset TV Advertiser ID - Vizio OS products before 2020:
Menu > System > Reset & Admin > Advertising > Limited Ad Tracking
Labels can vary by model, firmware, language, and region. These are Vizio-documented paths, not guaranteed instructions for every Vizio product.

- Confirm that the prompt appears inside the TV’s setup flow, on Vizio’s official website, or in the official Vizio app. Do not enter credentials into an unexpected email link or unfamiliar domain.
- Check whether your model is a newer Vizio OS product that requires Walmart sign-in.
- Record the current Vizio account email, linked devices, subscriptions, and important support information.
- Choose between merging the existing account and creating a separate Walmart account.
- Read the consent screen about Vizio OS Data separately from the account-merge language.
- Review Walmart privacy choices, including sale/sharing and targeted-advertising settings.
- Update the TV firmware if privacy controls or opt-out synchronization are unavailable.
- Do not delete the old Vizio account until you confirm that needed information is available under the new account.
This is a practical checklist, not a mandatory Vizio sequence. The exact screens and options can vary.
Troubleshooting common setup problems
“I already have a Walmart account, but the TV will not sign in.”
Check that you are using the correct Walmart credentials and that the browser or QR-code authorization flow completed. A mismatch between the email associated with the old Vizio account and the Walmart account can also make the process confusing.
Retry through the official TV setup flow, verify that the Walmart account works in a browser, and install available TV firmware updates. If the TV remains stuck, contact Vizio support through its official site. The available materials do not establish that sign-in failures represent a widespread defect.
“I do not want Walmart to know what I watch.”
A Walmart account may be required for smart features on certain newer products. Vizio says that combining Vizio OS Data with Walmart account data is a separate consent choice, but account and service information needed to provide functionality may still be processed.

Review the data-combination choice carefully, check Walmart privacy settings, update the TV firmware, and reset the TV advertiser ID where the option is available. Remember that a targeted-advertising opt-out does not necessarily remove advertisements.

“Can I use the TV without any account?”
Do not assume a universal yes or no. Newer affected Vizio OS products require a Walmart account for smart-TV functionality. Basic use of an external HDMI source may be different, but Vizio’s public materials do not establish one account-free behavior for every model, firmware version, or region.
“I merged accounts and want to undo it.”
Vizio says the old Vizio account is no longer accessible after conversion. Do not assume that you can reverse the process yourself. Contact Vizio support for account-specific recovery, deletion, or data questions.
“My privacy opt-out is not reflected on the TV.”
Confirm that the opt-out was applied to the same Walmart account used on the TV. Then check for firmware updates and whether the device supports automatic honoring of that preference. Also distinguish between an advertising opt-out and removal of all advertisements.
What this means for your personal finances
This change does not necessarily create a new charge. The Walmart account itself can be created free, according to Vizio. The more relevant personal-finance issues are account control, subscriptions, payment information, and privacy.
If you merge accounts, review whether subscriptions, payment details, or device-linked services appear correctly under the Walmart account. Keep records needed for refunds, warranty claims, or support. If you create a new Walmart account, avoid assuming that Vizio subscriptions or account history will transfer automatically.
For privacy-sensitive households, the decision is also about how much account information to consolidate. A separate Walmart account may limit the connection to an existing shopping profile, but it does not eliminate the Walmart account requirement on an affected TV or eliminate all service-related data processing.
The bottom line for Vizio owners
Vizio accounts are moving toward Walmart accounts, but the transition is not identical for every television. Certain newer Vizio OS products require Walmart sign-in for smart-TV functionality, while older products may retain Vizio-account options temporarily.
Merging transfers Vizio account information into Walmart, associates linked devices, and makes the old Vizio account inaccessible. Keeping the accounts separate may be possible, but it does not necessarily let owners of affected newer TVs avoid creating a Walmart account.
Finally, a Walmart login is not the same as automatic combination of all Vizio viewing data with Walmart shopping data. Vizio presents that combination as a separate consent choice. Review that choice, check privacy and advertising settings, and treat any account merge as a decision that may be difficult to reverse.
