Visa says 46% of surveyed consumers across 14 Asia Pacific markets were likely to use stablecoins within the next five years. That is stated intention, not a forecast or proof of future adoption: in the same survey, 16% said they had used stablecoins in the previous 12 months.
What did the Visa stablecoin survey find?
Visa commissioned its 2026 Consumer 360 study, with fieldwork conducted from June through July 2026. The survey covered 14,250 consumers aged 18–65 across Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, India, Australia, and New Zealand. The findings below are Visa-reported survey responses, not independently validated measures of adoption.

The five-year horizon runs from the survey period toward mid-2031. It should not be read as a precise deadline for individual consumers or a guaranteed adoption milestone.
Intent is not the same as recent use
Visa reports that 46% of respondents said they were likely to use stablecoins within five years, while 16% reported using them in the prior 12 months. The first figure measures stated future likelihood; the second is reported past behavior. The gap does not show how many people will go on to use stablecoins.

Awareness exceeds demonstrated understanding
In Visa’s survey, 66% said they were aware of stablecoins, but 6% demonstrated what Visa described as an accurate understanding. Among respondents aware of stablecoins, 49% believed they could only be used to buy and sell other cryptocurrencies, and 41% believed they always increase in value. These results point to familiarity with the term without broad understanding of the asset or its risks.
What is stopping people from using stablecoins?
Among respondents who were aware of stablecoins but had never used them, 38% cited fraud or scam concerns and 36% cited lack of understanding. These are reasons given by surveyed non-users, not evidence that every stablecoin or provider carries the same risk.

Visa reported the highest awareness figures among selected markets for Hong Kong (84%), India (80%), and Thailand (77%). For likelihood of use within five years, it highlighted Vietnam and India at 67% each. These are selected country findings, not a complete ranking of all 14 markets; the release does not provide enough detail here to assess country-level precision or statistical significance.

What uses do consumers associate with stablecoins?
Visa says respondents connected potential use with online purchases, travel spending, overseas shopping, and cross-border money movement. Separately, 49% believed stablecoins could become a common way to move money across borders within five years. That is a belief about future prevalence, not a measurement of current transaction volumes or a prediction that the change will happen.

The release states the sample size, age range, markets, and fieldwork months, but does not provide questionnaire wording, recruitment or sampling frame, response rate, weighting, country-level sample sizes, or confidence intervals. Without those details, readers cannot assess how representative the results are or make rigorous comparisons between markets. The percentages are best treated as Visa’s snapshot of reported awareness, experience, concerns, and intentions in 2026.

The commercial context also matters. Visa is a payments company with an interest in stablecoin infrastructure. It says it works with banks, regulated financial institutions, and payment partners to connect stablecoin capabilities with familiar payment and money-movement experiences, and describes its Visa Stablecoin Platform as helping clients mint, move, and manage stablecoins. Those are Visa’s descriptions of institutional activity, not a consumer product recommendation or proof that the surveyed use cases are already available at scale. Visa’s October 5, 2026 release quotes Nischint Sanghavi, its Head of Digital Currencies for Asia Pacific, describing an opportunity to make stablecoin experiences trusted and familiar; that is the company’s perspective, rather than an independent survey result.
