Uzbekistan Airways is more compelling when the journey starts, ends or connects inside Uzbekistan. In 2024 it added five aircraft—two A320neo jets, two ATR 72 turboprops and one LET-410—and announced new or resumed services from Tashkent, Nukus, the Fergana Valley and Karshi. Its newer turboprops are relevant to thinner regional markets that cannot support the same schedule as a large trunk route.

SCAT is a network-and-price option. The airline says it operates more than 80 domestic and international routes and can add up to ten destinations a year. If SCAT offers the only practical nonstop, or its total fare is substantially lower after adding extras, its sixth-place service ranking should not automatically disqualify it.

- Find every nonstop and one-stop option for your exact cities and dates.
- Compare the final trip cost after baggage, seats, meals and change fees.

Why it leads the general comparison
Air Astana is Kazakhstan’s full-service flagship brand within Air Astana Group. Its published description covers scheduled and charter operations, point-to-point and transit travel, short- and long-haul flying, and domestic, regional and international routes. That breadth matters for a traveler who may need to connect beyond the immediate Central Asian city pair rather than buy separate tickets.
The 2025 figures give Air Astana the clearest network scale in this comparison. The group reported 132 routes in 22 countries, while the Air Astana brand reported 42 destinations and 78 routes. Those are different scopes, so do not add them together; the group total includes the wider corporate network and the brand figure isolates Air Astana.
Where its full-service model helps
A full-service fare can reduce the number of add-on decisions you must make, but “full-service” does not mean every fare family includes every benefit. Check the exact conditions for checked baggage, seat assignment, meals, refunds and changes. A low booking price can stop being low after a checked bag and a preferred seat are added, while a higher fare can be cheaper once those needs are included.
Air Astana should also be your first search when a connection is important. A broad network may let you keep the itinerary on one booking, which is generally easier to manage than combining separate tickets. Uzbekistan Airways: strongest for Uzbekistan-centered travel
Network and fleet changes
Uzbekistan Airways’ 2024 update records five aircraft added to the fleet: two A320neo aircraft, two ATR 72 turboprops and one LET-410. It also lists new or resumed services including Sanya, Phu Quoc, Makhachkala, Nizhnevartovsk, Hangzhou, Hurghada, Nha Trang, Goa, Nukus–Istanbul, Nukus–Almaty, Fergana Valley–St Petersburg, and the resumption of Tashkent–Rome, Mumbai and Lahore.
For a regional traveler, the important point is not the number of destinations on that list; it is the geographic spread. Tashkent remains the obvious hub for many journeys, while links involving Nukus, the Fergana Valley and Karshi can save a long overland transfer or an extra domestic ticket. Check whether the route operates on your date, because a route announcement does not establish daily frequency.
Why the ATR 72 and LET-410 matter
Smaller aircraft can make service to thinner markets practical. Uzbekistan Airways’ 2024 sustainability report says its ATR 72-600 turboprops consume up to 45% less fuel on regional routes. That figure is the airline’s stated maximum comparison for regional operations; it is not a promise that every flight will use 45% less fuel or that the ticket will cost 45% less.
The ATR and LET aircraft may also be a better operational fit for smaller airports, but aircraft type alone does not tell you whether the cabin, baggage allowance or schedule will suit you. Look at the aircraft shown during booking and recheck it before departure, since substitutions can occur.
Interline reach
Uzbekistan Airways reports 36 interline partnerships. An interline arrangement can make it easier to issue a connecting itinerary across airlines, transfer baggage under the applicable rules and handle disruption through the ticketing carrier. It does not automatically mean every partner combination is sold on every date. Verify the booking’s baggage-through and rebooking terms, especially if your trip includes a partner-operated segment.
SCAT Airlines: a practical Kazakhstan price and nonstop play
What its own network claim means
SCAT says its fleet is predominantly made up of owned Western aircraft and that it operates more than 80 domestic and international air routes, with up to ten new destinations offered annually. That profile signals an airline willing to expand its map, but it does not tell you how many flights operate each week on your route or whether a seasonal service will be available on your dates.
When SCAT can be the better financial choice
SCAT makes sense when it removes a connection, departs at a substantially better time or is materially cheaper after all required extras are counted. A nonstop can be worth more than a modest service-ranking difference if it avoids a hotel night, a long airport transfer or the risk of missing a separately booked onward ticket.

Conversely, a low headline fare can lose its advantage once you add a checked bag, seat selection or a change. Compare the same travel requirements across all three airlines. If you need flexibility, price the change conditions before deciding; the cheapest nonrefundable ticket is not the cheapest option if your plans are uncertain.
How to compare the total cost, not just the fare
No current, route-by-route fare, baggage or frequency table is established for this comparison. Prices change with date, demand, currency and inventory, so a responsible decision requires a live quote. Use a worksheet for each itinerary with these fields:
- Base fare and taxes shown at checkout.
- Checked-bag fees for the number and weight of bags you will actually take.
- Carry-on limits and the cost of exceeding them.
- Seat-selection fees, if choosing a seat is important.
- Meal or onboard-purchase costs for the flight length.
- Change, cancellation and no-show penalties, plus any fare difference.

For each option, add the fare, required extras and schedule-related costs. Then subtract only discounts that are certain at checkout. Do not value an unconfirmed future promotion or assume an airline will waive a fee during disruption. If one option is $30 cheaper but requires a $60 bag and a $100 overnight stay, it is not the cheaper trip; the arithmetic should use your real numbers, not the advertised starting fare.
Match fare families fairly
Compare a fare that includes the services you need with an equivalent fare on the other airlines. Air Astana’s full-service positioning does not make every fare identical, and a low-cost fare sold by a related brand such as FlyArystan should not be treated as if it were an Air Astana fare. Read the operating-carrier and fare-family labels on the payment page.
Choose by route pattern
Domestic Uzbekistan or a Tashkent connection
Start with Uzbekistan Airways. Its documented 2024 additions and resumed services show an emphasis on connecting Uzbekistan’s regions with Tashkent and selected international points. If another airline offers a much better nonstop or timing, compare it on total cost, but do not assume an outside carrier serves every Uzbek regional airport.

Search both Air Astana and SCAT for the exact city pair. Air Astana’s broader published network and first-place service ranking favor it when schedules and prices are close. SCAT can win when it has a direct flight at a useful time or a lower all-in fare.
Cross-border Central Asian travel
Air Astana is the logical first search for a broad regional itinerary because the group reports 132 routes in 22 countries. Uzbekistan Airways may be better when one end of the trip is an Uzbek regional airport or when its interline options produce a cleaner ticket. SCAT should be considered when its route map supplies a direct Kazakhstan connection that the others do not.

Thin regional airports
Give extra weight to the airline that actually serves the smaller airport on your date. Uzbekistan Airways’ ATR 72 and LET-410 additions are specifically relevant to thinner regional demand. A theoretical network advantage is worthless if it requires a long surface transfer or two extra connections.
Schedule quality and connection risk
A schedule is part of the price. Compare departure and arrival times, connection length, airport changes and the number of daily alternatives if a flight is disrupted. A one-stop itinerary with several later replacement flights can be safer financially than a slightly cheaper itinerary with one flight a day.
Single ticket versus separate tickets
When possible, keep connecting segments on one ticket. If you buy separate tickets, allow enough time to collect bags, clear immigration, check in again and absorb a delay. Budget for the possibility that the second airline will treat you as a late or no-show passenger if the first flight is late.

For every airline, check the current operating carrier, aircraft and travel advisories for your route. An aircraft model such as an A320neo, ATR 72 or LET-410 describes equipment, not an airline’s overall safety record. Treat maintenance and audit disclosures as one input among several, never as a guarantee about an individual flight.

Using a group network number as a brand number
