Important: The figures below are reported historical amounts from October 31, 2022, for registrations commonly called “PTA taxes.” They are not a 2026 payment quote. Your current payable amount must come from the government-generated assessment and PSID in the DIRBS/FBR process.
The underlying duties and taxes are handled through the FBR-linked system; PTA’s DIRBS process registers the device and manages network compliance.

What “PTA tax” actually means
“PTA tax” is the familiar shorthand, but it combines several government charges. FBR administers the customs-duty and tax framework, while the Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) identifies devices, processes registration and enforces network compliance. PTA provides the telecom-regulatory and device-verification framework.
FBR says DIRBS identifies non-compliant devices on Pakistani networks, automatically registers compliant devices and can block devices that remain non-compliant. The system launched on December 1, 2018. See FBR’s Mobile Devices Regularization–DIRBS page.

Passport versus CNIC registration
Passport route
The 2022 table is lower for passport registration on every listed model—for example, PKR 79,167 versus PKR 99,734 for an iPhone 11. That difference does not make passport registration a universal discount. Eligibility depends on the traveler, passport and arrival conditions in force when the application is made.

CNIC registration was higher in the reported table and is the route commonly used when passport-based conditions are not met. Do not use another person’s passport as a way to obtain a lower assessment.

How registration and payment work
- Open the official DIRBS Device Verification System.
- Enter the required applicant information and the phone’s IMEI details. Retrieve IMEIs from the device settings or original packaging and check every relevant IMEI on a dual-SIM phone.
- DIRBS sends the request for assessment through the FBR-linked process.
- After verification, FBR generates a Payment Slip Identification number (PSID) showing the applicable duties and taxes. The government-linked procedure is described by the Pakistan Trade Information Portal.
- Pay the PSID through an authorized banking or payment channel.
- Return to the official system, complete any required confirmation and check that the device status is compliant before depending on a Pakistani SIM.
Interface labels and payment options can change, so follow the current screens rather than an old menu path copied from a blog.

The perfectly aligned magnets enable wireless charging faster and safer than ever. Wireless charge on with the case on.
- [Shock Protection] Withstanding the rigorous 10-foot military-grade drop test, it builds a solid defense for your device, and can easily resist the damage caused by violent impacts and accidental drops.
- [Precise Cutout] Precise cutout fits the volume buttons, side button, and curves of your device without adding bulk. It is a more lightweight case with a firm and comfortable grip.
Why your current amount may differ
- The passport or CNIC route selected and whether passport eligibility is satisfied.
- The exact model and IMEI, including a replacement or refurbished device.
- Customs-assessed or officially assigned device value.
- Changes to customs duty, sales tax, withholding tax, valuation or other rules.
- An existing registration or compliance record for the IMEI.
- The difference between a historical table and a fresh PSID assessment.
FBR’s 2021–22 rate sheet separates passport and CNIC calculations and applies additional sales tax to higher C&F-value bands: FBR mobile-device rate sheet. The Finance Act 2022 also set mobile-phone levy bands up to and above USD 701, with levies from PKR 100 to PKR 16,000 per set; that levy is only one component, not the complete iPhone registration amount: Finance Act 2022.

- Check the exact storage and model identifier in DIRBS.
- Verify all IMEIs on dual-SIM devices.
- For US eSIM-only models, confirm local carrier compatibility separately; PTA registration does not guarantee eSIM or network compatibility.
- Be especially careful with replacement, refurbished and used phones whose IMEI history is unclear.
If you leave the phone unregistered
The principal risk is loss of access to Pakistani mobile networks when DIRBS treats the device as non-compliant. Registration deadlines and temporary-use allowances have varied by rule and applicant status. A contemporaneous TechJuice report mentioned 30 days for passport and 60 days for CNIC users in one iPhone 14 context, while other coverage cited different periods; those claims should not be generalized. Check the period shown by DIRBS or stated in the applicable official notification.

Quick Recap
Importing a non-PTA device
- May have a lower initial handset price.
- Requires a current assessment, PSID payment and status verification.
- Carries network-blocking risk if registration is not completed.
- Requires checks for regional model, SIM configuration, warranty and IMEI history.
Buying PTA-approved locally
- Costs more upfront in many cases but avoids a separate registration exercise.
- Can provide clearer local warranty and network access.
- Still requires independent verification of the seller’s PTA claim, especially for used devices.
Common mistakes and fixes
- Using the 2022 table as today’s bill: obtain a fresh PSID and treat the table as historical context.
- Relying on an unofficial calculator: use its result only as an estimate; pay the government-generated PSID.
- Submitting the wrong IMEI: read it from the phone or packaging and recheck every IMEI.
- Assuming factory unlocked means PTA-approved: network unlock status and Pakistani registration are different.
- Trusting a used seller’s screenshot: verify the IMEI yourself in the official system before purchase.
- Paying without a PSID: do not send money to an intermediary who cannot show the government assessment.
- Payment completed but status unchanged: retain the PSID and receipt, then recheck registration through DIRBS before opening a dispute.
Final checklist before buying or paying
- Identify the exact model, regional version and storage capacity.
- Check every relevant IMEI in the official verification system.
- Confirm whether your passport or CNIC route is actually available.
- Obtain the current PSID amount instead of relying on the November 2022 figures.
- Pay only through an authorized channel.
- Verify compliant status afterward and test the intended SIM or eSIM.
- For a used phone, independently confirm PTA status, battery health, Face ID, True Tone and written warranty terms.
