The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) warned about CFD Corporate on June 26, 2018, identifying it as an unauthorised firm that may have been providing financial services or products in the UK without permission.

The warning is still available on the FCA website and has not been marked as withdrawn or superseded. It is important to describe it accurately, however: this is a historic 2018 warning, not a new FCA announcement.

What the FCA warning says

The FCA’s warning classifies CFD Corporate as an “Unauthorised firm”. It says the regulator believed the business “may be providing financial services or products in the UK without our authorisation” and was targeting people in the UK.

The FCA also states that CFD Corporate was not authorised by the FCA. That means it should not be described as an FCA-regulated CFD broker. The warning concerned suspected unauthorised activity, rather than a firm operating under ordinary FCA supervision.

The FCA warns that unauthorised firms can change their websites, telephone numbers, email addresses and physical addresses. The contact details in this old warning should therefore not be treated as current contact information or as proof that a present-day website using the CFD Corporate name is connected with the business named in the warning.

What protection was unavailable?

The FCA said that people dealing with CFD Corporate would not have access through that unauthorised firm to the Financial Ombudsman Service or protection from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). It also warned that recovering money could be difficult if something went wrong.

That warning needs a qualification. FSCS and Financial Ombudsman eligibility is not automatic for every financial product or every authorised firm. It depends on the firm’s permissions, the service provided, the investment involved and the circumstances of the claim. An unauthorised firm cannot normally provide the protection associated with eligible authorised activities, but the payment method or another party—such as a card issuer—may create a separate route to a remedy.

A Financial Ombudsman case involving CFD Corporate

A later Financial Ombudsman Service final decision considered a complaint involving four credit-card payments made to CFD Corporate in 2018:

Date Payment
May 18, 2018 £500
May 21, 2018 £2,000
May 24, 2018 £4,500
June 4, 2018 £1,000 credit
Net amount debited £6,000

The Ombudsman upheld the complaint against NewDay Ltd under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974. It found that the consumer had been misled and that CFD Corporate had breached contractual promises linked to the deposits. The decision directed NewDay to refund the loss, after credits, together with applicable transaction fees and 8% interest.

The case records allegations that the consumer could not withdraw funds, did not receive promised trading lessons, had a bonus added and later removed, and was unable to obtain meaningful support. Those matters relate to the evidence and findings in that individual complaint. They should not be presented as separate FCA findings applying to every person who dealt with CFD Corporate.

The Ombudsman also said there was evidence raising serious doubt about whether genuine market trades were being placed, rather than the platform operating as a simulation. In the circumstances of that case, it concluded that CFD Corporate was unlikely to have been operating a legitimate enterprise.

The timing matters

The payments in the Ombudsman case were made in May 2018, with the final credit recorded on June 4. The FCA warning was published later, on June 26, 2018. The Ombudsman expressly noted this timing.

That means the FCA warning cannot automatically be treated as a warning that the consumer ignored when making the payments. It also illustrates why the date of a regulator’s warning matters when assessing an individual complaint.

Could affected customers recover money?

It would be inaccurate to say that every customer could recover money, but it is equally inaccurate to say that nobody could. The available remedy depends on the payment method, the facts, the contract and the legal or voluntary scheme being used.

The Financial Ombudsman decision shows one possible route: a complaint against a credit-card provider under section 75. That route was successful in that particular case. It does not guarantee a refund in every CFD Corporate dispute, and it does not mean that a complaint against the unauthorised firm itself would receive normal FCA or FSCS protection.

Anyone who believes they lost money should keep the deposit records, card or bank statements, emails, platform screenshots, terms and conditions, withdrawal requests and records of contact with the firm. The original FCA warning and the Financial Ombudsman decision may also help explain the regulatory and complaint history, but they do not determine the outcome of every individual claim.

Canadian regulatory background

There is related regulatory material from Canada, but it comes from the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan (FCAA), not from the UK FCA.

In 2017, the FCAA issued enforcement orders concerning Mpower Technologies Limited and CFD Corporate. The FCAA described Mpower Technologies as based in Cyprus, said it operated under the CFD Corporate name, and linked it with www.binarycorporate.com and www.cfdcorporate.com. It said the websites provided binary-options trading platforms and that the named parties were not registered to trade securities in Saskatchewan.

The FCAA issued a temporary cease-trade order in April 2017 and later listed orders extending the restrictions concerning Mpower Technologies Limited.

This is relevant background, but it should remain attributed to the Saskatchewan regulator. The UK FCA warning identifies the warned business as CFD Corporate and does not name Mpower Technologies Limited.

Do not confuse CFD Corporate with CFD Corporate Finance LLP

Companies House contains a separate record for CFD CORPORATE FINANCE LLP, company number OC370689. The record says that this limited-liability partnership was incorporated on December 12, 2011, registered at 7 Moorhead Lane, Shipley, England, BD18 4JH, and dissolved on January 27, 2026.

A similar name is not enough to establish that the LLP was the business named in the FCA warning. The FCA entry does not give a Companies House number, registered office or legal-entity name connecting CFD Corporate with CFD Corporate Finance LLP. The two should not be treated as the same organisation without additional documentary evidence.

The LLP’s dissolution also does not prove any connection with the warning. It is simply the status recorded for that separate Companies House entity.

Common claims that need correcting

Claim More accurate wording
“The FCA has just warned CFD Corporate.” The FCA published a warning on June 26, 2018, which remains available and shows the same last-updated date.
“The FCA declared CFD Corporate a scam.” The FCA said it believed the firm may have been providing financial services without authorisation and identified it as unauthorised. Stronger conclusions appear in consumer evidence and Ombudsman reasoning, not in the FCA warning’s wording.
“CFD Corporate was an FCA-regulated CFD broker.” The FCA expressly said that CFD Corporate was not authorised by the FCA.
“CFD Corporate Finance LLP was the firm warned by the FCA.” The connection is unverified. Companies House records a separate entity with a similar name, while the FCA warning does not identify that LLP.
“Victims cannot recover any money.” Recovery is not guaranteed, but the Financial Ombudsman upheld at least one complaint against a credit-card issuer under section 75.

What to check before using a financial firm

  1. Search the FCA Register. Check the firm’s legal name, trading name, website and permissions rather than relying only on a brand name.
  2. Read FCA warnings. A warning may list websites and trading names, but old contact details can change and similar names do not necessarily identify the same legal entity.
  3. Check the exact product. A firm may have permission for one activity but not for the investment or service being offered.
  4. Be cautious about withdrawal problems. Requests for additional deposits, unexplained fees or pressure to pay more before releasing funds are serious warning signs.
  5. Keep payment evidence. Statements, correspondence, platform records and promises made by the firm can be important when challenging a transaction.

FAQ

When did the FCA warn about CFD Corporate?

The FCA published its warning on June 26, 2018. The page also shows June 26, 2018 as its last-updated date, so it should be described as a historic warning that remains published, not as a new warning.

Was CFD Corporate authorised by the FCA?

No. The FCA stated that CFD Corporate was not authorised by the FCA and classified it as an unauthorised firm.

Does the FCA warning say CFD Corporate was a scam?

No. The FCA said it believed the firm may have been providing financial services or products in the UK without authorisation. A later Financial Ombudsman decision reached serious conclusions in one individual case, but that is distinct from the wording of the FCA warning.

Can CFD Corporate customers still recover money?

Possibly, depending on the payment method and facts. In one case, the Financial Ombudsman upheld a complaint against a credit-card issuer under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and directed a refund with interest. That outcome is not automatic for every customer.

Is CFD Corporate Finance LLP the same business as CFD Corporate?

There is no basis in the FCA warning itself for treating them as the same legal entity. Companies House records CFD Corporate Finance LLP as a separate organisation, company number OC370689, dissolved on January 27, 2026.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

The verified position is that the FCA published a June 26, 2018 warning identifying CFD Corporate as an unauthorised firm targeting UK consumers. The warning says customers would not receive the normal Financial Ombudsman or FSCS protection through that firm.

A Financial Ombudsman decision later upheld one complaint against a credit-card issuer and found misrepresentation and breach of contract in that case. Canadian regulatory action also provides related background, but it should not be confused with the UK FCA warning. Finally, the evidence does not justify treating CFD Corporate as the same entity as CFD Corporate Finance LLP merely because the names are similar.
